Getting gold by 10/31
Is it possible as a support? Or is there a different role I should focus on?

Doable. No matter what path you select it will take work.
The easiest way to get to gold is to carry yourself out with high impact champions. Jungle and mid are usually easiest to do this with. From Bronze through early Gold, players have a really hard time dealing with aggressive roamers like Kassadin, or high burst assassins like Zed and Diana.
This advice comes with a catch: make sure you can actually play the champions you are picking.

Pay special attention to lectures 4 and 11, but believe me when I tell you every lecture has a wealth of information to offer you.
Support is one of the easiest roles to carry from, you can totally do it. If you can consistently win bot lane, and control the map, you will get gold.
