Carrying as a support?

How do you do it? What's the main mechanics for a support to have down perfect? What supports can carry the best right now?

In season 3 I used to go AP SONA. Why? Well her Q is great dealing tons of damage W heals which is good when running or chasing. E movement speed for chasing. R for secureing that PENTAKILL (i almost got it) and HER PASSIVE IS SOO OP IF YOU STACK IT AND USE AA ON BLUE AURA IT WILL DEAL ALOT OF DAMAGE INCLUDING LICH BANE!

The only ones I've seen carry in my games are sona and annie, sometimes nidalee. I don't know how though, think it has to do with straight AP items so your like an ap mid but with a support side. I don't know. >.<

Are we talking pure supports or AP champs in support role?

I carry as Pantheon, Annie, Nidalee, Soraka, Fiddles. I build straight AP there, where I have over 800 AP with about 3k health and no mr nor armor. And with full CDR of course. Also Leona - but as pure tank and initiator.

I've done an AD Sona Sona once. It was ridiculously over powered because I was in a custom game.
