A small change to buff AP Ezreal

Not Arcane Ezrea··7 votes·1,441 views

Hello, it's Arcane Ezreal -- as many of you know that AP Ezreal has a lot of problems. I was thinking about one that can be fixed really easily. As many of you know, Ezreal's Q ratio is being buffed to .4 of his AP instead of .2 of his AP. Now there will be a lot more AP going towards his Q. Let's do some math on that:

@100AP: 40 damage

@200AP: 80 damage

@300AP: 120 damage

@400AP: 160 damage

@500AP: 200 damage

Now you might be like, why did we do the math? Well you see, all of that damage is in physical damage and not magic damage, which makes it extremely weaker for AP Ezreal because he doesn't get Armor Pen and tanks usually get Armor for the Marksman's damage.

Now how could we change this actual nerf to a buff? Make the AP Ratio damage deal in Magic Damage and make everything else deal in Physical damage. With this it'll be a huge buff to AP Ezreal.

NOTICE: That Fizz's Q does this exist thing that I want.

Thanks for reading.

I'd got to agree. I think if AP Ezreal is to be viable, then they need to add some power to his Q, especially with the upcoming lich bane nerfs. AP Ezreal needs more than W and E. He needs some sort of constant damage source. Besides, I think of Ezreal more of a caster than an ADC.

It already is viable.

Build 40% CD with nashors and lich and your Q goes to 1.1 currently, 1.05 after the lich nerf. It also has an around 1.4 second CD and gives your ult about 30 seconds if you hit q a ton. It's strictly a late game build.

But they should make the Q do magic damage if the AP exceeds the AD.

IMO, the problem isn't with Ezreal's Q. It's with his passive and W.

His passive is utterly useless unless you're going a sub-par on-hit AP build. Except with AP Ezreal, you're rarely going to be auto-attacking. More so spell machine gun of QWE as much as possible and then R.

W is basically so bad only AP Ezreal -does- get it now. It's a projectile that flies a short distance, doesn't hit minions and is basically only good for buffing AS on tower destruction.

If W could hit minions but not have it apply a stack (And maybe have his passive do something beneficial for AP Ezreal. Maybe AS if AD > AP or Spell Pen if AP > AD?) we would see a lot more AP Ezreal. As it stands however, he lacks the farming tools for that nasty amount of AP he needs to gib entire teams.

His Q is one of his MANY problems. If he got this, it would be a step in the right direction to make AP Ezreal better and not really affect AD Ezreal.

Totally agree. Changeing the ap ratio to magic dmg would help a bit, no doubt, but the real problem of ap-ez is the lack of waveclear. If his W would hit minions but only gives passive stacks vs champs, ap Ez would be much more viable. Thats pretty much all i would need to be happy

This does have the benefit of the hybrid damage being harder to itemize against, but it is still a nerf late in the game when everyone has armor, anyway.

Great idea.

Also, I think you have a typo here that may be confusing to some people: "NOTICE: That Fizz's Q does this exist thing that I want."

*Exact instead of Exist

Oh yeah, I noticed that and was like "fuck it"

This looks like a veiled qq for someone who plays ezreal and is sad that the one champion that they can actually play is getting toned down.

I cant possibly fathom why they would implement this change. This would make for a situation that would be similar in a sense to AP tryndamere. Just something that is not supposed to happen, but did. They already took away the slow from his arcane burst, and he is still very powerful imho. Possibly because he can flash all the time. To add something to ezreal, I think something else should be taken away and the most glaring part of his kit that is exploitable would be the infinite flashes that he has available to him. In all fairness though, ap ezreal is not how I think riot envisioned him so I would doubt that this change even gets considered.

This looks like a veiled qq for someone that got wrecked by and Ezreal and thinks the champion is OP when it obviously isn't.

Interesting side note, Ezreal was originally an AP champion just like Varus and Tristana.

They took the slow away cause it was to strong on ad-ez, not ap, and Ezreal originaly was designed as a mage. If they wouldn't consider ap-ez as a option that should be given, why would they buff the ap ratio on his Q to compensate lichbane nerfs?

Except how AP Ezreal is borderline viable, and with this change to his Q and Lich Bane he'll be trash tier. Champs shouldn't rely on an item to be viable.

MackleDoge1 votes

Definitely not a specific item, but all champions rely on items in general to be viable. Play an ADC and only build Doran's Rings, not exactly viable. They rely on the proper item builds and the like to be viable and effective in the game. That's obviously hyperbole but you get what I'm saying, or at least the general premise. It's a bit naive to say that certain champions or certain builds for champions shouldn't rely on an item to be viable, that's why items exist and why building properly or intelligently matter. I do agree that the slight tweak to his Q really doesn't make up for the impact that Lichbane changes are having on him though, don't get me wrong about that. I just think we should avoid the idea of buffing a champion so that they don't rely on items, but rather we should buff a champion so that they can still effectively use the changed item.

Yes, but Ezreal must build Lichbane when going AP or else an ability will be completely useless. Like ADCs have choices between BT, Botrk, IE as a rush item, AP Ezreal is like "Get Lichbane or lose out on so much"

MackleDoge1 votes

Like I said, it's an inherent part of certain champions and builds that you require an item. Thus why he should receive a more significant buff other than just the Q adjustment. There is nothing wrong with AP Ez needing Lichbane.

Meatybag1 votes

Doesn't that apply for a lot of the mages in this game? I certainly build lich bane as a core item in most of my mages builds. I do know that I plan on autoattacking someone at some point in the battle and that extra almost 1k damage I get from lichbane + nashtors seems like a good thing for a single auto attack right? Oh, and I get an extra 1k damage every 2 seconds so long as I have an ability that I can activate so I can turn on the lichbane.

I think this boils down to people want their early iteration of ezreal back where he was far more than he is now. The problem is I think even if he was put back to what he was in season 1, there would be stronger options elsewhere as it stands even now.

MackleDoge1 votes

Personally, I like Ezreal, but I never build him AP. Not because it shouldn't be done, not because it's weaker than ADC Ez right now, but because I don't have fun doing it. More important than it being competitively viable, AP Ez needs to be fun to play and since Riot acknowledged the build type specifically, they need to do it justice by adjusting it appropriately instead of just throwing a pity buff or an honorable mention at those that enjoy it.

As far as stronger options, I do agree with you on that for sure. Even if AP Ez got the buffs he needed I still don't think he'd be as strong as LB, Lulu, or Gragas. And I think it's pretty obvious that in most situations Lucian and Sivir are superior in the bot lane. So while that may be true, I don't think it should really be all that relevant to AP Ez actually receiving viability.

Mmm, let's leave the negativity out of this. It's never fun for anyone to see someone getting bashed for trying their best at something that is almost impossible to do.
