@Riot- thoughts on increasing # of free week champs?

Worgslarg··4 votes·579 views

Currently, it takes a new player 12 weeks ( assuming not a single champ is seen twice in a cycle) to have a chance to play all of the current champions. This number will keep going up as champions are released( albiet slowly)

What would peoples thoughts be on increasing the number of champions on free week to 12-14?

I definitely think 12 free champs would be acceptable. Especially considering that there are always repeats in order to make sure there's a variety of roles filled by each free week. (There aren't nearly as many supports as other roles, or marksman, etc)

Yea, I think they usually try to have 2 in each meta role, so ten makes sense, the extra two could be flex picks like lulu (solo lane/support)

And increase to 8 bans in draft pick.

I'm actually glad that we can no longer ban out all the strong picks. It makes it so we actually get to play/see some of the strong picks, and bans can be much more strategic. I hated the days of permabanned Amumu, Malphite and Morgana every game (this was circa season 2)

This is not going to be done because of the LCS strat of banning out a single player.

That's not to say they couldn't do this in soloQ (though I agree with Abiwon's comment), but in ranked 5's I think it should stay as-is.

Actually there was an interesting thread over in GD that make a good suggestion for increasing the number of bans.

Basically you start with two bans each then work the other 4 bans in between picks. So if your star players are in the first slot the max you can ban from them is two. It seems like it would make banning more strategic.

As much as i would agree with more bans, this thread is about the champions on free week, not the number of bans.

I think adding yet more rotating free champs would make the game more confusing for brand new players. It might help people who've been playing for a few months and are mechanically used to the game but haven't built up their stable of champions yet, but brand new players who picked the game up 15 minutes ago have a lot of confusing, ill-explained options as it is.

As a brand new player, it really doesn't matter which champion you pick. You'll probably be bad. Might as well have a bunch of champions to pick from so you can get a feel for your playstyle/champions you like. At least that is how you would get hooked on the game and start doing research and getting better.

I was thinking more than just 12-14. Maybe 15-20?

(I personally like 20. More is better, after all.)
