R is for Renekton... not Riven
If you are just here for highlights, then ignore the following. If you want to improve your gameplay and are looking for some tips so you can pull off stuff like you see in the vid, then read on for more info/breakdown.
I'm really glad to show this vid because it both shows how to overcome heavy enemy jg pressure and make a comeback after a bad start to your lane. It also shows how despite me having... mediocre mechanics at best, I can use MACRO play and INTELLIGENCE to overcome mechanical average-ness and become something greater. FYI... while gold only puts me in top 20% of league players... I'm top 10% of renekton's in the world. And this 2v1 focus on me by the enemy jg coupled with lack of help from my team is pretty typical. Although my teammates have better laning phases than average this match. Anyways, onto the analysis of some key plays.
Level 1 - I was pretty dumb for chasing lee and thinking he was alone. Even if he was, I gain nothing from chasing him here. So I should have let him just back off. I choose not to flash over a wall here because it's 99% likely I die anyways. And flashing just ensures he can camp me and probably level 2 2v1 kill me... again. By dropping poro, ward, and saving flash I give myself a chance to recover in lane. Riven has advantage and lee will probably gank, so letting her have lvl 1 push is key here. Get as much cs as you can without losing your health bar for it and giving them easy lvl 2 or 3 tower dive.
Level 4 - I'm very surprised lee hadn't shown up yet to gank me. The delay I found out later (when recording) was because he based before doing blue. Riven gets me in a spot where I can't easily get a double dash without giving lee a q that probably kills me, so I'm forced to flash. If I'd used it earlier at lvl 1, I would be dead here and have an 0/2/0 start to lane.
Level 6 - if you think you can take an all-in, one combo is to dodge riven's first q or two, dash past her to waste her stun, and then when her stun wears off, you have 2nd dash and empowered stun to cut off her retreat path. It works at least as high as gold elo. When tower diving... riven has a lot of mobility and surprising durability due to her e. Try to hit tower, zone enemies off cs, and go in AFTER they've used abilities and have nothing left to outplay you with. You can see this with my lvl 9 all-in of riven under tower. Due to no flash and no dash, I had to wait out her ability cd's before popping her to ensure it wasn't merely a trade of kills.
Level 10 - I know lee is topside, probably grabbing blue and highly likely he will rotate to via river to ult me into riven's tower and 2v1 me. This is obvious through various means such as the fact that his top jg is up and his bot is mostly cleared due to where he was bot earlier. He's not mid helping ahri push tower, and he's not bot to counter-gank where our akali is looking to make a play. Thus the only option left is top. Both lee and riven are very squishy, I have a solid lead and ult, so I know I can bait... yes I baited here EXPECTING a 2v1... lee into coming top and fighting me. While I am low, a quick glance at the map and knowing riven's tp is down guarantees I'm safe to stay and get first tower. Then while riven will be clearing top, I force infernal because it should be 5v4 at worst. Except bot lane gets ganked, so I stop infernal to help them.
Level 11 - just want to highlight what riven is doing here. She has the right idea - taking jg camps when there's nothing else to do and she can't fight me, but she has the wrong execution. She knows I'm bot and low hp with nobody to contest her top. She should have cleared one more wave before doing jg camp and she'd deny so much gold and xp while getting some good damage on tower. I pop herald here not so much to get top tower, but because I want to pull the enemy team off mid outer tower so my team can get that while I waste their time top. Doesn't go as expected, but still a decent play.
Level 13 - xin SHOULD have rotated top (i pinged him to) to grab the cs riven shoved to my tower so he could protect tower instead of it losing 3/4 it's hp. This would have freed me to rotate mid right away and back up our team in case the enemy did a push for tier 2.
I chase lee under his tower here... protecting karma, blowing lee's flash AND his ult. I knew I wouldn't get the kill when I dashed for him, but forcing out his ult like that is very worthwhile. Karma should then have rotated to dragon with me, but she stayed mid for some reason and died. Don't overstay when there's nothing to be gained and everything to lose. Rotate to help team with objectives and secure vision control.
Level 14 - I built tiamat here because I've been 1v2 a lot and tiamat multiplies my damage to GROUPS of enemies plus it's just good on renekton. When jumped by the enemy duo, the key is to either remove the champ with the most burst before they can burst you (lee) or to remove the highest dps source (riven) if the burst cannot be avoided. I don't win this because of how squishy I am, so I have to kite back to tower. Riven is impatient and tilted so she dives me while lee had the right idea to clear the wave and just deny me cs because I couldn't stay and get 2v1 dove. I see riven's intent, so I go to flash stun her and nuke her before lee can follow up. Then I know I can run lee down if I save my dashes for the upcoming minion wave and pop ghostblade to stay in range for that combo. 1v2 doublekill secured yet again.
Level 15 - I tp here to ensure the minions survive long enough we can get both inhib tower and inhib. I then look for a wall dash via the gromp to kill kai'sa if she pushes another wave or catch her going for blue buff, but she'd spotted me on a good ward by baron and played smart. Lee though didn't pay attention or didn't think I was still there because he dies at wolf camp when he has no business just hopping over the wall with q to do it. Get vision first... and bring a friend when you are so behind lee.
