In Defense of The Treeline - A Poorly Substantiated Corporate Decision

Only past week, RIOT games announced the retirement of it's 3v3 map; the Twisted Treeline. Reasoning revolves mainly around the small player base and minimal results from efforts, even though a lack of attention on the mode is the prominent reason for its decay.

This video shows not only why the developers are at the wrong here, but also why they are making a poorly thought-out decision, where Nexus Blitz failed, the Treeline provides the answers.

He's spot on.

If they do decide to keep this map, they make a lot of players happy. Even people that don't play twisted treeline, they will just be happy that Riot is at least listening to us and making changes to make even their smaller fanbase happy.

If it is about money then still, there are plenty of people that spend hundreds to thousands on this game that only play twisted treeline so if they removed the map, they also remove income from those people.

Heck, I already held off on buying all the new project skins I was preparing for because there would be no point if I only get to use them for a couple of months. They don't even need to update the map, just let us continue playing on it like normal and everything will be fine.

I hope they reconsider removing twisted treeline just like they did for the legacy cursor. I personally didn't care about it at all but it was nice to see them change it back in because people wanted it.

Indeed that's pretty accurate. My friends and I were playing some years back more TT than Rift and had many good team comps but with the time and the lacking updates we lost the interest and not forget with the current state of the game even TT is a wreck.

Sadly Riot never cared for this mode and doesn't give a rats ass about its players opinions. I'm sorry but face the facts they want it dead and not even a necromancer will be able to resurrect it.

The video is pretty accurate. Hope someone at Riot maybe sees it :(

4 years of manipulating players and trying to kill Twisted Treeline, it really is a sad state of affairs with how Riot has been lying through their teeth and playing to get people to play like how Riot wants, instead of how the players want.

This is probably the reason League has been in such as terrible state, the developer have been trying to manipulate the players and how they play the game, instead of letting the game evolve naturally and adjusting for things that go haywire.

I remember back in the day when lanes were rarely just top, mid, jungle, and duo bot. You had to be prepared for everything, from duos in mid and top, duo jungles, tipples, and even bum rushes in any of the lanes. When "mandatory ADC bot" stated to pop-up, I remember hard duo melee bot specifically to cripple the ADC and take the tower.

Many people were still trying to find their feet, but there was also a mix-up game to trip the opponent and try to force them on the back foot (Jungle Singed anyone?).

Everything is standardized now. You know what you are doing, you know what your opponent is doing, even with so many more champions, it just feels like it has been becoming more and more bland.

TFT is a tragedy to this game. Killing off actual game-play for some random piece of shit trading card game. The only alternative game-modes we have left are random garbage. THe most interesting game-modes we've seen are almost always one-offs that may never come back. COOPerative PvE game-modes? Nah bitch here's a fucking DotA2 mini-game.

Riots Official Statement: "We tried our hardest! Players just don't care enough :/" What actually happened: "uwu sowwy we made a fukki wukki and completely forgot to support our new gamemode, plz buy our merch"

Karn Bishop8/4/2019, 9:43:59 PM4 votes

Yup you hit all the main points well, even small changes like allowing the jungler to purchase and place a single ward with half its usual visual range would have made a big step in improving TT issues.

Great video, man. Every now and then I check your channel, for 3v3 gameplays.

If Riot removes the map, it ll be the 1# WORST decision they have ever made (Which is hard because they made quite some bad decisions).

Un4given8/5/2019, 3:24:20 AM4 votes

I agree. It is my favorite mode when I am with one or two friends. I even play it solo sometimes but not as much since there have been a lot of AI-BOTS. It sucks when you have two BOTS on your team and the other team is three real players. The BOTS feed the other team and do not capture alters or help with monsters. Otherwise, it would be the only mode I would play.

I think they are just trying to boost their summoners rift playerbase because the queue size is getting too small. (because they are losing players)

FartWorshipper8/5/2019, 1:39:05 AM2 votes

delete this shit game mode, and summoners rift too so all time goes to glorious TFT

good luck bro, i Hope this can help but I have little hope

Power Mac8/5/2019, 8:14:08 AM2 votes

I still bet my balls people would keep ignoring TT after "saving" it: it's more of a LoL Boards thing, otherwise it wouldn't have come to this.

0megon8/5/2019, 12:43:41 PM2 votes

Honestly this is on point. I understand why they want to get rid of it as it is too similiar to SR and they want to diversify their gamemodes to attract as many players as possible, but they could at least be honest about it instead of making it die through no balancing, manipulating players to not play it through excluding it from battlepasses and then come up ,,we are so sad about it" bs. There was really obvious plan to retire it...

Gnarly xD8/7/2019, 11:38:56 PM1 votes

dam 3 days later and its RIP, no longer "hot" on main page.

a week, 2 weeks? Just like that, the players of LoL have abandoned the 3s community to sink with our ship.

Good bye friends, 3s was the map we didn't deserve, that the knobs from 5s NEEDED to play as warding and 4 other players is too much for 85% of this game's population to handle and macro.

TreeLPer8/9/2019, 2:24:35 AM1 votes

It's really upsetting that this post is being lost. I want to make a new post on the main page but I am unsure how to do so without repeating what was already said here. I really don't want to go to a new game because I invested too much into this one, and I still love its gameplay the most of all the other games similar to league of legends. Really hoping that the map will be available in custom at the very least with AI after the season ends. I would prefer this mode just be hidden but still allowed to be played or not removed at all though.

Anyone else out there have any ideas on what we can do to convince riot not to remove the game mode?

KEEP TALKING ABOUT THIS, DONT LET THEM LIE TO OUR FACES AND IGNORE US!! THE MORE BACKLASH WE GIVE THEM THE HIGHER THE CHANCES THEYLL LISTEN. IT MAYBE TOO LATE FOR OUR FALLEN COMRADE DOMINION BUT LETS SAVE TT <3

Well, there's always Dota. RIP TT and really the only non-ai game mode I play.

theeKRAZE8/6/2019, 2:41:15 AM1 votes

We’ve all been thinking it... I’m glad someone said it...

I actually play more TT than I do SR with my friends and my brother...

I’ve been wondering for YEARS why TT never came into fruition and the proof is in the pudding man.

How do you expect a game mode to attract any kid of following when there’s no incentive...? Where’s the competitive tournaments for it...? Where’s the rewards...?

I’ll guarantee you that at the moment you’re already losing TFT players because your TFT hub is down and it’s literally delivering nothing in the form of incentive to anyone playing the mode. If you want people to play a mode... don’t just push it under the rug and wonder why there’s no following. This dude is 100% right when he says the issue here comes down to neglect for the game mode.

Deνiruchi8/6/2019, 4:12:25 AM1 votes

I grew tired of SR so I moved to ARAM to find some fun in this game after the removal of RGMs, I would have given TT a shot if it was better and taken more care of otherwise. I loved Hexakill when it was actually a thing, because of the chaos on that small map.

But we all saw this coming with TFT. They went the cheap route of smol indie company to save some server costs and most probably rellocate them into TFT, because when TFT was brought as a "experimental" game mode to see if it would become permanent or not, it was already taken care of during development and "beta", because it was a mode they knew would succeed, because it was a copy paste auto-battler and they saw it already had succeed with Auto-Chess. Then acting "surprised" when it was received with popularity in LoL. It was like the year of Battle Royale with lots of games just adding it and basically guaranteed a hot release and a stream of players.

They made a properly made game mode including new maps, animations, UI and textures from the scratch for a supposed experimental mode waiting to be permanent, while they just copy pasted textures from SR to shape a new map with sloppy and even missing textures for NB. NB was truly an experimental mode, they made it visuallly boring on the first round and no jungle pressence by not being able to gank from other different sides and gave events overkilling buffs, like Caitlyn's UNDODGEABLE and PERMANENT buff to minions. Then they fucked it up even more on the second round, with a more visually polished map, but an event attached to it, making players constantly pick specific champions and gameplay affecting event reward based missions, that lots of people playing the "experimental new mode with expectations to be permanent" didn't find fun, because people weren't playing it to have fun, but to complete missions. Sorry I got wrapped in this NB big rent, I wanted to express it after that part in the video you compare NB with TT, as well as share my disgust for TFT, which is a reason they're removing TT, we all know that.

The most laughable part of killing TT off is the lies they spit on everyone. Lies that can be factually checked with patch notes.

SirTauntsALot8/6/2019, 5:38:55 AM1 votes

They are really throwing an opportunity away here. Not only can they reach players that don't play the summoners rift, they could also make this part of their e-sports.

How? They can basically use 3 vs 3 as a tie breaker for games in the pro scene. How cool would that be?

3 vs 3 can offer fast games and can be easily balanced if they pay minimal attention to it. I am not sure why they are not investing anything in it.

The truth is Riot doesnt care, after people lashed against removing legacy cursor riot backtracked but bascially said "Were gonna do it later because fuck you and your cursor"

Riot is basically an angry kid at this point anything it considers "losing control" is radically and headstrongly pushed against.

  1. People liked old cursor? i already decided to remove it so its gonna happen now or later.
  2. People play out of meta champs a lot? Well we dont like those being viable, NERF.
  3. Treeline Being a sad sack of shit? We are gonna remove it instead of fixing it.

TL:DR Riot Games has become insane control freak and Hates when Players play the game "WRONG" which is basically the reason the game is Shriveling husk of what it once was. item 3070 item 3070
