I remember watching it in theatres and thought it was a pretty good movie. Didn't know why it was rated R though. There isn't a lot of swearing, no gore, no sexuality. If I had to guess it would be because Neo gets shot 12 times at the end.

They originally wanted Will Smith to play the role of Neo. He turned that down to be in Wild Wild West. I imagine the movie would be much worse if he were the lead.
I was almost 3 years old when The Matrix came out lol. Honestly didn't know it was so old. My family didn't have it until I was about 7-10.
Oh shit, 20 years? I remember watching it in Princeton, NJ. We had huge discussions about its logic afterwards, like Sheldon Cooper types. I can't believe it's been this long. :(
