Well i've seen a lot of very furious Janna players. Maybe that's what it means.
She does do damage though? provided she builds ap.
It's part of her previous lore.
She used to be a human with hatred towards cruelty and injustice in the world. Now she's more of a..spirit with little to no impact on the lore of League at all.
That, and she used to be played far more fiercely than the afk-shield spamming idiots nowadays play her with their full AP builds.

Make Yasuo the storm's fury. I mean he's the one who slices people up in midair.

If your Janna isn't harassing people and winning every trade by using her shield and w, you're not playing with a good janna. They even changed her passive to make her do more poke damage. Usual Janna combo isshield yourself, w, q if you're super high on mana, and auto attack until they're about to break your shield. You never lose a trade and just about never take damage. Sounds like you've been playing with bad Jannas.

she does huge damage early if you're vs short range and auto at every opportunity. Though you don't need to because her shield is strong enough to carry you through laning phase
