Are OTPs an endangered species?

Everyone knows OTP is the best way to climb SoloQ, but with Clash possibly ACTUALLY becoming a regular thing, is this the end of an era?

OTPs climb higher, but more importantly, climb higher than their skill with other champions. Enter Clash, they're now ranked based on that one champion, and the enemy can actually see that. OTPs are dropping left and right. So now they're being placed based on that 1 champ that's getting banned out.

Obviously, Solo Q exclusive players are never going to go away, so neither are OTPs, but with clash is this the end of the "everyone is an OTP" era? If you're the top player on your team people are even getting target banned on their top 3 champs.

Just playing norms today a common theme in chat is people talking about, and practicing new champions for when their mains get banned. I feel like if clash is relatively successful, OTPs will become much less common.

Nah. I am a three-trick.

658k on Aatrox, 790k on Darius and 1.2M on GP.

Clash obviously isn't made for people who play only one or a couple champions and those people would never have any interest in a competitive tournament setting.

most people i know have 2 or more accounts and while riot heavily shuns people for smurfing in clash, they do just to play their one tricks in like silver

Get a team of 5 OTPs for their respective lanes. Good luck banning out all of them.

That said, some OTP are class or lane based, rather than a specific champion. At that point, you're not banning them out either.

Lastly, universal mechanical skill is gonna be a huge factor in those games regardless of OTP status.

yep get target banned every game so far and then counter picked on top of that, makes clash boring as shit

That is the cost of being inflexible. It's not Riot's problem if someone chooses to play only one out of the 145 champions they made.

Riot has long wanted to encourage players away from OTP. It's better for their game if players devote themselves to a wider range of champs

This is the good thing about having a wide champion pool.

I'd actually encourage people to try to ban me out cuz it just limits what their own adc can play lul.

That being said if i was top in a clash team i'd be fukt cuz i very obviously only play nasus in top.

also wouldn't that be super easy to ban out? Cuz unless you get less bans in clash, you literally have one for each otp.

Or perhaps, as more champs are introduced to the game, it's a lot easier to find multiple that you really love.

I used to be an Ahri one trick I guess, but as time passed new champs/reworks were introduced that I really enjoy like Eve, Qiyana, and Katarina.

With what sources. I didn't know OTPing was the best way to climb. Explain yourself!
