Why isn't Ahri considered an Assassin? I had a debate with a friend the other day and I'm still unsure why this is so. Thanks in advance!

Well she is assasin. Just a weird one. She hasnt have that great base damage or insane scales( see lux, zoe, brand, talliah, veigar) and most of the time spam q to farm and poke you, when you are low or land her charm she goes in and deals her burst damage. What makes he assasin is her ult cause it allows her to gap-close in order to finish the kill and then help her go out of danger. Riot definition of the assasin role is burst damage (small or high damage) and way to go in towards the backline, kill the adc or the carry then walk away.

the problem is electicute ahri is more like an assasin , glacier ahri is more like a farm mage with mobility. I mean according to riot nocturne is primarly an assasin, but after he ult someone he doesnt have an escape to go out violating the definition riot gave for assasin( burst damage ,can reach backline, can back off safely) and apart for a single spell shield usually u use with ur ult in order to avoid the cc and save ur target, also diana she is fighter while he build and dish out damage as an assasin and her in coparison with noc she can kill q ult w e auto and kill the target and cause enemies hit by her q reset her ult she can use her ult and the remaining duration of her shield to go out in some cases. Another problem is rengar who does dive , does have insane burst but his only escape tool is the CC immunity +plus heal from the empowerd W but usually renagar needs/use Empowered Q or E when they attack so they lose that cc immunity. SO IN CONCLUSION , Riot classes is little weird, they are champions that fit more than one, and ahri specialy is a hybrid so she is considered ap assasin like ekko or burst -mage- assasin call it whenever you want

She is a mage-assassin hybrid: Early on she is mage like, but she will eventually hit a power spike and get assassination potential. In Season 8 the added damage helped her reaching that spike earlier.
