Why do words upset people so much?

see so much talk about muting people in game, I don't get it. Actually, I don't understand people who rage either.

I can't tell if It's a complete lack of giving a fuck, a mental disorder, or if it actually just doesn't bother me to get flamed from time to time. I usually deserve it anyways. Does it really have that big an effect on people that muting is necessary, or is it protection so you don't lash back?

I certainly get mad playing this game sometimes, but I'd rather focus on playing and trying to win than typing in my chatbox, and it actually disturbs me that some people pretend to play this game competitively and don't think this way

The only game I remember actually raging at people was a customs with friends :^)

You're right, I have absolutely no idea why black people would get upset over being called "cotton-picking ni**er scum", or why people with depression would get upset over being told "fucking worthless trash go kys", or why a Jewish person would get upset over hearing "one holocaust wasn't enough it seems".

These are insults I've seen in chat over the last few days btw, and they're far from the only ones. Cases like these are why the mute button (and the report function) exists. Some words DO cut deep, and the mute button is there for those of us who don't want to deal with some asshole who doesn't realize there's a person on the other side of the screen.

If someone is only using chat for flaming why would you not mute them? They're taking up space where important info can be shared and also pushing up other people's messages up. If I'm playing to win it's only logical to mute someone who isn't using chat in a useful way if you want to win because you're "playing competitively" right? [sg-lux-2]

Usually though I like to read people's flame because sometimes it's funny

See, the part that confuses me more...

These people raging in chat clearly have suppressed anger. It's less about where it comes from, more importantly how much are you suppressing that someone else having a bad game triggers you?

Something needs to be done when people behave that way before it gets out of hand. We would just as soon let the authorities handle it so we don't have to. Like you would rather let the police arrest the cartel members in your town so you don't have to get rid of them yourself.

I have poor mental, if someone flames me I instantly play worse which tilts me even more which makes me play even worse and so on. I wish I could permanently block people from ingame again so I only have to deal with each one of them once.
