The answer is always Fire. Even in Pokemon Yellow.

Scorbunny is tentative at the moment. A part of my like for the starter depends on what they turn into. With the theory that Scorbunny might pick up electric (it's Japanese name is a mix of Spark and Bunny), that would make him a shoe in unless one of the others gets real surprising (like Primarina reveal surprising).

I like water apparently

Gen 6 it's a close tie between Froakie and Fenniken, but Fenniken slightly wins

General Matty3/1/2019, 3:53:50 PM2 votes

Gen 2 starters were the best. Specifically Cyndaquil.

Busty Kunoichi3/1/2019, 3:33:45 PM2 votes

By generation:

  1. Water
  2. Water
  3. Fire
  4. Water
  5. Skip
  6. Fire
  7. Fire
  8. Skip

Gen 5 I listed as skip because they're all horrible to me. Gen 8 I need to see the evolution paths to decide so for now I'm skipping. Some of them I picked out of which ones were considerably more tolerable than their peers (such as Generations 4 and 6).

1: Charmander 2: Totadile 3: Torchick 4: All of them, but especially Piplup. 5: Tepig 6: Froakie, because the fire types evolutions look weird. 7: "what the f*ck do you expect me to do" Grass Owl. 8: The Monkey.

Cloud2733/1/2019, 7:00:35 PM1 votes

I don't really have favorites. I like all of them. Also they should've saved Aegislash for pokemon sword and shield.

Inkling Commando3/1/2019, 7:56:08 PM1 votes

honestly i like all fire starters except Tepig. for some reason it not as......inviting, as the others. gen 5 i go with Oshawott.

Lord Dusteon3/1/2019, 9:23:30 PM1 votes

I'm too lazy to edit rn, so Water, Fire, Fire, None, Grass, Water, None, None.

Also the 2nd gen is iffy since I only really like the pre evo of Cyndiqual since Typhlosion feels meh to me. Same but reversed for 6th gen, as Froaki is meh but Greninja is neat.

Toxic Doku River3/1/2019, 11:47:24 PM1 votes

Squirtle Totadile Mudkip Chimchar Snivy Litten Sobble

Seriously if you pick grass types you're suicidal. Unless you played Pokemon Red when there was no dual typing.

Solji3/2/2019, 12:10:09 AM1 votes

Water for all.

Mavëríck3/2/2019, 12:32:47 AM1 votes

If I had to pick one starter per type;

Charmander Treeko Totodile

gimme my dragon looking muthahz

I circled 2 from Gen 3 and it was hard to not circle all 3. I love all the Gen 3 starters a shit ton. I just love Gen 3 in general.

Im undecided between two of them for the new one

Dasdi963/2/2019, 12:48:11 AM1 votes

Gen 1: bulbasaur Gen 2: chikorita Gen 3: mudkip Gen 4: piplup Gen 5: oshawott Gen 6: chespin Gen 7: litten Gen 8: sobble

COBRA C0MM4NDER3/2/2019, 2:30:01 AM1 votes

so there's like a thing to this? kinda like knowing what to ante up in a poker game huh.

Get me to my first Koffing and screw the rest...unless they can be my second/third in line.

A Swarm of Koala3/2/2019, 2:51:46 AM1 votes

I expect this to be a little controversial

EDIT: In related news I apparently can't count to 4. I hate 4th gen so much that I even blocked the order out of my mind.

I'm gonna wait for the final evos to really decide for the 8th gen starters, kinda digging the fire rabbit for now though?

Gen 1 and 2 were kinda tough for me cuz the fire starters there are pretty alright too

Pretty solid for everything else though

jocomotion3/2/2019, 3:40:48 AM1 votes

Squirtle, Chikorita, Treeko, Chimchar, Oshowatt, Chespin, Rowlet, and so far Scorebunny (I wanna see the final Evos before I commit though)

Mines more even than I thought despite how much I love the grass type.

Worst Kench NA3/2/2019, 5:11:58 AM1 votes

1: Charmander > Bulbasaur > Squirtle I honestly can't decide between the actual basic Pokemon myself, since all three of them are great. I do like Charmander's evolutions a little more than the other two though, so I went with that. Mostly because I like Charizard more than Venusaur and Blastoise. Ivysaur and Wartortle are super legit as well. Put Bulbasaur higher than Squirtle mostly just because that's the one I chose playing Leaf Green as a kid.

2: Totodile > Chikorita >>> Cyndaquil Reptiles are cool, and Totodile's a gator that just evolves in to a bigger gator each time. Feraligatr's one of my favorite final evolved starters too. Chikorita and evolutions are also really cool, I don't get why people don't like them as much. Cyndaquil though... meh. I don't care for Cyndaquil or Typhlosion's visual design that much. Quilava's okay though.

3: Mudkip > Treecko > Torchic Gen 3 is by far the most played out of all the Pokemon stuff I've done, and I've had all three of them. Picked Torchic first, went Mudkip later because of the meme and kinda never looked back because of how much I wound up loving Swampert. Easily my favorite out of all the starters. I did play a game of Emerald with Treecko and liked it too. Torchic's also got a legit evolution line too so I can't really knock any of them.

4: Turtwig/Chimchar >>>>> Piplup I put Turtwig first on that instead of Chimchar because I really like Turtwig and Grotle's designs compared to Chimchar and Monferno, but vastly prefer Infernape to Torterra. If I were to pick up a Gen 4 game and play it right now I'd probably pick Chimchar because I wouldn't just keep my Pokemon as a middle evolution forever just because I like how Grotle looks. Piplup's just... no. Don't like it or any of its evolutions.

5: Snivy > Tepig > Oshawott This one's kinda hard because I like Snivy and Servine but not Serperior, Pignite and Emboar but not really Tepig, and Dewott but not Oshawott or Samurott (which is why it's last). Snivy was a meme for a little while which I can appreciate, but I think it'd be like the Chimchar thing where I'd end up picking Tepig just because I fully evolve all my starters and Emboar's the one out of those three that I like the most.

6: Froakie > Fennekin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chespin I'm really sorry if anyone likes Chespin, but... nah. It's... a rat with a hat? Just doesn't do it for me. Quilladin just looks weird too and Chesnaught, just... why? Strangest and most visually unappealing starter line IMO, although I'd have to see all of Gen 8 to really solidify that. Fennekin just looked really boring to me, although I do think Braxien and Delphox were kinda cool. Froakie's a frog with balls on its face, so that was an easy choice for me. Frogadier and Greninja are dope as well, but I'll never understand just why Greninja's one of the most popular Pokemon ever. It's cool, but best ever is going a little overboard.

7: Litten > Popplio > Rowlet This used to be Popplio over Litten, because I thought Litten was boring. I still kinda do, but Incineroar is easily my second favorite final evolved starter so it makes picking it worth it. I really like Brionne, but Popplio does look kind of strange to me in hindsight, and Primarina isn't really that great. Rowlet's just okay. Dartrix and Decidueye are just the same. Still kinda like Popplio more for the derp factor.

8: Grookey >>>>>> Scorbunny >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sobble Still think that this is a little early for me to call because I often base my pick on what their final evolutions will look like, but I'm not really a fan of any of the designs this time around. Scorbunny just looks derpy but not in a good way like Popplio, and the name... It just doesn't roll off the tongue that well. I get what they were going for with Sobble but I just don't like its design at all. I'm guessing it's one of those things like Wimpod where it starts off looking pathetic but ends up turning in to something really intimidating, but the fact that it just looks gross in general doesn't do it for me. Grookey's just... okay, which is enough for me so far, I guess.

TonyTonyMordecai3/2/2019, 5:30:26 AM1 votes

For me:

  1. Squirtle
  2. Cyndaquil
  3. Mudkip (first pokemon ever)
  4. Turtwig (Torterra is the bomb)
  5. (I didn't really like gen 5)
  6. Froakie (Greninja is my favorite evolution)
  7. Rowlet (he's cute, and his final form is rad)
  8. Sobble (gives me a Mudkip vibe, I just hope his final evolution is cool)

I unfortunately go for looks half the time in pokemon, I can't help it.

LordForrest3/2/2019, 8:42:17 AM1 votes

Gen 1 all 3 Gen 2 Chikorita and Cyandaquil Gen 3 Treecko and Torchic Gen 4 Turtwig Gen 5 Snivy Gen 6 Fenneken Gen 7 Rowlet Gen 8 Either Grookey or Soble they are both cool. The rabbit is generic as fuck and I think its stupid.

Admittedly I like all the starters for the first 4 gens. I just favor the ones listed way more.

Apparently I favor grass and then fire with only gen 1 and probably gen 8 having me pick the water starter.

Ðeath XIII3/2/2019, 8:48:56 AM1 votes

Bulbasaur Cyndaquill Torchic Piplup Snivy Chespin Rowlet

I'm gonna wait till I see the evolutions on the new guys.

joywhodidthisjoy3/2/2019, 7:07:27 PM1 votes
  1. Bulbasaur
  2. Totodile
  3. MUDKIP (best pokemon of all time)
  4. Turtwig
  5. Oshawott
  6. Don't have one
  7. 3-way tie (I like Rowlet's whole tree, Popplio is cute, I like incineroar a lot for some reason)
  8. Oh god they all have bad designs

EDIT: I've been playing pokemon for 75% of my life, New starters look garbage compared to the older ones (My opinion, no flame)

Profirix3/1/2019, 5:41:05 PM1 votes

Charizard will always have a special place in my heart.

Linna Excel3/1/2019, 5:44:16 PM1 votes

Usually the water one, but I loved Fennekin and gen 2 was a tie between totodile and cyndaquil.

ZerglingOne3/1/2019, 5:54:43 PM1 votes

Fire, water, fire, fire(all the g4 starters were badass though) , water, grass, fire (although grooky's final Evo is probably fucking awesome)

Lewd Neeko3/1/2019, 6:13:40 PM1 votes

Squirtle is my number one over all, but let's see, going down the rest of the generations... 2. Chikorita 3. Mudkip 4. Piplup 5. Oshawott 6. Froakie 7. Rowlett 8. Sobble

Even if I think a different starter is a little cuter, I generally go for the water types in game though.
