Is there a reason to take R on udyr?
Is there a reason to take R on udyr? it seems so under-powered... not to mention i haven't noticed any good item synergies with it [zombie-brand-clap]

You take R if you're going AP Udyr.
it used to be good then they buffed like every stance except it now it's not used much anymore

Bear Stance > Phoenix burst trade while they're stunned > Turtle shield to step back and avoid retaliatory damage > Bear Stance run back to stun and repeat > win trades
Problem is that in League of Tanks, its not as good as Tiger which gives that consistent damage you would want in a straight up fast 1v1. Its cause of how people just generically play Udyr without understanding his kit is why I say the Player Base is dumb. Like sometimes I think its just a waste of money for Riot to even try to care about balancing the game cause NA Players will always be dumb. Korean and Chinese players on the otherhand...

Not at the moment. Phoenix build hasn't been a thing for a while.
Phoenix is good for two things: wave clear and team balancing. When your team is comprised of a Fiora, Zed, Draven and Leona it is very wise to go Phoenix. It gives AP damage output on a team that is otherwise AD dominant. That way the enemy front liners will build armor and you won't be affected by it. It gives Udyr more versatility in an otherwise straightforward kit.
Nimbus Cloak in sorcery tree. Use once per gank.
