Extreme cases of poverty and desperation can cause people to do a lot of things. In a way, I support the bootleg industry in that they have the right to do what they're doing in the free market to make a living.

Ultimately, you get what you paid for in a buyers market. If you buy a product at a lower price and its quality doesn't live up to expectations, oh well. Most important thing in this scenario is that the buyer knows that they're buying a fake merchandise i.e. $20 Gucci bags in Canal Street during the 90s.

The other side of the argument for counterfeit merchandise is a bit more complex to understand which is to buy a counterfeit product at a lower price and it meets your demand. A good example would be the man who was charged with selling fake Nikes. Yeezys by Adidas, Jordans by Nike, etc. are not cheap, yet there is still a huge demand for them which is what marks up the price even further (supplier market at this point). For people of lower income who may not be able to afford the real thing and would never actually buy one (cause then they'll live in the streets), counterfeit shoes allow them to buy something similar within their price range.

The fact that a counterfeit product were to meet the demand of the consumer i.e. it doesn't break after wearing it everyday for a minimum of 6 months like Timberlands (they suck, buy Red Wings) brings to question the ridiculous mark up of some these products. This in turn can also challenge the industry to produce better products i.e. "shoe technology" to help ensure their margins and not be easily beaten by counterfeit markets. Otherwise, they can sell you crap and you have no choice, but to buy it.

I mean... When we were little, did we actually pay to watch anime or did we torrent Naruto and Bleach like everyone else?
