But..... but I like Kai'sa

Alright everyone. I see ya'll aint diggin the VO, and that Ya'll think she coulda been more monstrous. But I like the design and the VO.

For starters. If the voidling on her is obviously pumping her with chemicals to enhance sensations and change her brain chemistry. She is a battle hardened vet. She has seen so much pain and horror, that anything she sees in runeterra is a joke in relation. Combine those factors with the fact that she is constantly looking for more prey to keep the suit from eating her, and you get a battle hardened, Hardcore, drugged soldier. Who is still and constantly in battle, and on a mission.

Not everyone snaps into Full metal Jacket crazy from the stress. Some people switch off. Everything is unremarkable, death is just another thing, pain is irrelevant. There is no point to raise your voice in anger, there is no real point to shout. You are a walking, breathing threat.

What she does need to try and do, is keep her allies on her side, and give herself a fuel and faint reason as to why she suffers as she does.

This B**CH is on such a MASSIVE load of Fuckitall. That she is always O.Ding. At this point, If you gave her any AFuckinbreak. the lack of adrenaline and sudden peace would probably be what snaps her into someone crazy for cocopuffs.

If her lines seem flat, its cause they should be. If she seems untouched by the void, its because she is still in a high stress situation and will not show signs of truly breaking until she exits it. Even then, she might not turn into malz, or a bubbling mess. She may just not switch back on.

Is she physically untouched? Depends. How "attached" is her symbiote? What happens when its taken off? Is her face remaining as is only because her symbiote thinks it will help her function properly as a host longer? How fast does the symbiote grow? It is entirely likely that ALL of the void energy that would turn her into something that looks more disturbing is being dealt with by the suit.

Could they have made her more lovecraftian? Not if the wanted to keep her quite the same. And I like the tone of a VO that doesn't seem like an edgy teenager on roids going to an adc. Xayah is damn unbearable for me (like, CHILD! STFU), Lucian and vayne are like the demon hunter from D3.

Is this poorly put? Most likely, but so are half the threads saying they don't like Kai'sa. So Shag off.

The only thing I like is the only thing that matters: gameplay

she looks fun

that's cool and all, but she is called the daughter of the void, and not the battle veteran, she isn't a trained middle aged soldier that was sent on a mission, she isn't Rita from Edge of tomorrow or Brand from Interstellar, she is defenseless young girl that was thrown into the void to die, she is Mowgli or Tarzan who were abandoned by their parents and left to die in the jungle.

I'm not sure you understand, she was abducted when she was 5 or 10 or something, she then spent 10+ years in the void, she comes back as an adult. she spent her childhood, teenager years and young adult life in another dimension, a dimension of horror and death, surviving, hiding, adapting, evolving. Now even if we give her the benefit of the doubt and somehow despite breathing walking and swimming in what would be the equivalent of nuclear waste all day every day her body doesn't see any physiological or biological change of any sort which is frankly impossible, but let's just say, and she comes back alive, it would take her just as long to rehabilitate herself with the human world, and even then she would still have scars, mental scars, traumas from what happened back there.

the only coherent explanation would be, that she actually escaped the void a long ass time ago, it's not a recent event at all, which is what most people were lead to believe, yes she had a chaotic past, but it was so long ago that it doesn't really matter anymore and nobody really remembers, not even herself, kinda like those hiroshima survivors who talk about hiroshima 50 years later. but then her age doesn't really add up, and the time line with swain and how the void apocalypse is coming doesn't add up either. and that still doesn't make her title 'the daughter of the void' less misealding, it should be changed to "the woman who survived the void' or something along that line.

I agree with what you say here, but I think some of it (especially some stuff near the end) goes a bit further than just Kai'sa, but rather extends into the void itself as a faction.

You bring up how people wanted her to be more lovecraftian, but I think that Riot is trying to take the void in a slightly different direction than just "lovecraft land," and Kai'sa (along with new baron sort of, Vel'koz, and Rek'sai) shows off this potential new direction rather well. The Void is now described on the universe page as an infinite world filled with organic machinery (along with some other messed up stuff). Who does this sound like in terms of design? Kai, Vel, and Rek. All of them seem almost mechanical in the way they move and look, though in the case of Kai that's more in the form of her suit. Riot seems to be trying to take the Void in a new visual and thematic direction, and I think Kai'sa is just overwhelming people with how different from old void stuff she is. There's more to it now than just "oh no ancient evil that drives men mad" and it seems to be a more concrete place that people know about rather than some wacky conspiracy theory that was actually true in the old lore. The universe page talks about people dying, not instantly being driven mad. Kai'sa is the first step in a newer, more cohesive, theme for the Void, and I think that for all her faults she makes a strong first impression.

Wholeheartedly agree thank you for making this post, I completely lover

You can like it, it just doesn't change the fact that the VO is just straight trash. Like I'd say the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 English dub is better, and have you heard that shit?

Arakadia2/23/2018, 2:43:44 AM3 votes

Okay but creating a character who seems utterly void of passion is bound to make them much less memorable. It's part of the reason they pumped Galio with super hero and ambition juices.

And you'd think for a character who comes from the Void, a region ALL ABOUT CHANGE, mutation, and physical adaptation that is reality warping, they would be a little warped themselves. She is literally from the change place, but she doesn't appease to have changed physically at all. If she has changed under the suit, that's really boring considering your covering what is supposed to be her distinguishing feature.

It's just your fantasy filling the gaps. Nobody is going to look at her and think of it, i haven't even come to this far-as-fuck fetched idea.

Truth be told, she shouldn't have survived the Void as a fucking child in the first place and she should have gotten traumatized to the point where she turns into someone like Rek'Sai instead of..this. You don't "shut down", most people here claim to be psychologists, except that i have actually studied psychology. When people are forced into extreme stress situations, they generally become highly aggressive and defensive. The Void is supposted to be Hell on earth but apparently she makes it look like you can raise kids there.

There is no such thing as immunity to trauma. Her personality shows no signs of mental fortitude.

I like her design and VO. I do not like her being from the void.

Tycoon2/23/2018, 12:43:55 AM2 votes

If they decide to go in this direction with her lore, I'm on-board, however this NEEDS to be flushed out. We shouldn't be left to assume things that should be prevalent character traits. Show us in some way that this is how it is, that she isnt just a Mary Sue in the middle of the void, that her experience was more than a walk down void lane. Give us more info, and by all means if they do this well I think she can fit in the new "machine universe" that the void is being ret-conned into.

Do you have anything to base all this conjecture on?

Cavesloth2/23/2018, 5:09:38 AM2 votes

I get where your coming from, but flat voices don't really make engaging characters do they? It maybe realistic and all, but its still disappointing. Look and some of the greatest movie villains. Most of them enunciate so hard its borderline ridiculous, The Emperor from Star Wars, The Nazi from Inglorious Bastards, Heath Ledger's Joker... Granted she's not a villain but you get the point.

I like Kai’Sa.

No no no! You can’t do that! Story and Lore said she’s bad and you have no right to disagree! How dare you like a champion that Story and Lore arbitrarily said is disappointing!

Sarcasm aside, I agree. In fact, her VO is amazing, and fits perfectly well with what I’d imagine someone who was isolated from the world in a place like the Void would speak like. Of course, she seems to be rather well spoken, and that’s a little off considering she lived in a place devoid of humanity, but given that Kha’zix, Kog’Maw, and Cho’Gath can speak the human tongue, I wouldn’t be surprised if she had some sort of conversation partner in the Void.

No you aren't allowed to like it it's new and it's from riot. It is not flanderized over-the-top or in quotations "unique". You are not allowed to differ from the opinions of the mob rule of the boards. You have to agree with malicious metal and Rubik and that pirate guy or else everyone will descend upon you like vultures.

Marshbouy2/23/2018, 2:54:16 AM1 votes

As long as the effects of her voidling suit are elaborated upon in lore and not just speculation, I am perfectly fine with Kai'sa.
