Dear Rep.

I was a decently loud voice during the malz update. I appreciated how much you communicated with the community during the time. I loved how you tried to keep everything we asked for, but I damn near quit LoL after the rework (barely any play for months) and I can't play him anymore, the change in voidlings, and the inclusion of his Spellsheild killed him, and is now forcing a plethora of balance issues.

Before rework, he still had a spellsheild on his passive. It's name was Jeff, the voidling. Balanced by mana costs and CDR this badass mofo would eat a blitzhook and then proceed to eat blitz IF you built ad, or went all in on him. (which would probably be a bad idea, cause its blitz...) His voidlings were utility when AP and damage when ad. He didnt need ap scaling on them, he had his damage in his active kit.

Regularly bouncing 3 E's around was proof that you were a master malz player who new exactly what he was doing. Not that you could hit q and build CDR.

The level 2 and 3 drag? Was only done by an elite club of malz players, and was ALWAYS a scary thing to do in game, one F up and you died. It wasn't something that needed to be hard nerfed into oblivion, and was certainly not even remotely feasible as a midlaner.

The Q (Thank god you kept the silence and cast times the same.) But it was hard enough to reliably hit it on your target in league of dash, it never needed the extra gimmick of refreshing e. In fact using Q would often result in less e's on the map because you would eat your mana and clear the wave with it. Instead of E.

W was his zoning and anti tank damage source. Instead of Jeff's weak cousins Bill, Bobby, Joe, and their offspring. They quickly become overbearing but suddenly lack the balancer of malz blowing his ENTIRE kit to get one out instantly. effectively leaving him defenseless until he floated his slow Arse elsewhere.

The R..... It was the reason you classified him as an assassin, and in a game which now includes plenty of ways to counter it. It was still his last ditch effort to stay alive. his only way to keep a tank in his pool, and his last chance to actually kill the Other mages on the rift. Consider it the last nail in what made him actually playable.

You included all of it. For which I give you credit. I look, and see that you really did keep what was asked. You even added the things like AP damage to voidlings. (as... debatable as that was). But because of the extra power of the spell shield and easy to conjure voidling army, and the changes you had to make to support their new existance. You ended up turning Malz into the problem he is today. While I cannot stress how much I appreciate the effort put into the rework. I ask, that you revert him to his state before the mage update. I know I may have lost you there, brushed aside as just a whiner, or asking something that would create an awkward situation considering the state of other champs (Morde). Despite the wasted resources on animations and the spell shield. I BEG of you, solve his current balance issues. Return him to what he was. Humor this last request from the Malz community. Please.

You guys are so chill, damn. I went onto /r/MalzaharMains and everyone's cool lol

If more people on the boards were like this stuff would get done.

And I'd be fine with a revert, provided he gets a VFX update.

As one of the guys who helped popularize AD Malz bottom lane in Dominionland waaaaaay back in Season 2, this post resonates with me.

I loved old Malz. He was my second most played champion. And now I can scarcely stand to even pick him. All the nuance of the old kit is gone. It just feels empty now. And considering the problems the new kit has created, I feel like Riot biting the bullet and reverting the remake is the way to go.

It's okay, Riot.

Trying new things is fine.

Just be willing to admit when they don't work.

I agree completely. He is in a state of needing to be flat out reverted. I know the biggest issue was his ability to one shot with his ult but that is an easily fixable mechanic. Simply nerf the damage and even the ratio, and add a damage amplification to his other abilities during the ult so he will be forced to use all his skills if he wants the same single target kill potential that the pre update malz ult had. Same thing with the voidlings to deal with the mana drain to handle the voidling upkeep. Nerf the damage of the of his basic abilities but allow each cast to summon a voidling instead of every few cast.

I actually posted this way back in the Repertoir Malzahar thread:

"Also, can you bring more information to the public about the gist of your plans for Malzahar now? Something in the lines of pre-presentation of these items (even though a lynch mob seems to be forming over there), knowing it's not the final iteration! Because, what I'm really anxious about, as a Malzahar main, is if you "ruin" him - thinking stuff like:

Q: Less base damage, worse scaling, shorter silence, same CD. Justified by increased Bobberts damage passive! W: Max HP damage decreased by 75% and moved to minion AA proc when on the nullzone. To make Bobberts relevant post lvl 12! E: Less base damage, worse scaling, less mana return, same CD. Justified by increased Bobberts damage passive! R: Now a skillshot! And with less damage. Justified by increased bobberts damage passive! Passive: Minions (Bobberts) now does 0.1 AP dmg on hit, still squishy, super slow (compared to lvl 1 boots+), and no better pathing! Worth!

You know, the stuff of nightmares, which keeps me up at night. :P Please help me sleep! ;)"

Still crying myself to sleep. ^^

I mained Malz before the rework. I absolutely abhor what the rework did to him.

If we can revert Kog, why not Malz? He's a fucking support

Cosmic Warper2/8/2017, 7:16:49 AM5 votes

Honestly he does need to be reverted. His passive should center around his voidlings. That whole spellshield mechanic is dumb and makes him hard to balance along with his current W because it's so complicated. Revert the rework and make his old passive better. Something like spawning a voidling every 2 spellcasts and it spawns in between him and the enemy he just hit ( at the midpoint). I'd like him to be more focused around casting spells fast to get strong and durable voidlings out rather than pressing W twice and E and having these squishy but hard hitting critters beat on you.

Bump, these Malz shenanigans are so sad.

He's been in hiding since the mage update failed in every way. It's either he keeps posting meaningless crap on the boards about his intentions, get noticed and potentially removed from the rework team and moved onto the misfit devs team aka the balance team like certainlyT or he says nothing and hopes everyone just forgets he exists so he can cont reworking champions, because he's proven himself such a success at that.

You don't need to put ur name in the end of the thread. Riot can see your name in the top of the page

SpecterVonBaren2/7/2017, 10:52:43 PM2 votes

Well he didn't revert Skarner, why would he revert Malzahar

mintegral2/9/2017, 4:21:28 AM1 votes

Bumping this. There are many civil but critical posts from Malzahar players on the forums right now and Riot isn't addressing any of them... :(

the new malzahar is better in a sense that his damage revolves around his E which rewards you by refreshing the active everytime you hit an ability. Old malzahar didnt have anything like that you could just E the enemy adc to half hp even if you didnt use any other spells. Now that his voidlings are slower when they are far away from him his damage will be less in long range botlane trades but mostly the same in his combos. All in all the concept of a champion just hitting a skill and dealing tons of damage is unhealthy for the game. The new malzahar rewards experienced players. The new malzahar gives the enemy counterplay.(dodge q=shorter e) He applies damage slower but the damage he applies is more consistent visible and counterable.

NvestmentPlanker2/8/2017, 12:08:35 AM1 votes

Hell. Fucking. No. yeah lets revert him back to where his ulti had a 500 base with 130% AP scaling and his % health damage was on his W. The champ is literally cancer whether it's before rework or after. Just delete him.

TheHappyReaperz2/7/2017, 8:33:38 PM1 votes

I remember Old Malz. While I agree that his reworked version doesn't have the same feel as old Malz, but that doesn't mean the previous version was any more balanced. If Riot reverted him, not only would it recreate the previous problems Malz had, but it would introduce new ones. Since the Mage Update, items where significantly changed. It seems, to me at least, he would have difficulty adjusting to the current meta.
