ryze and brand

you see i have been playing this game since maybe around the end of season 2 give or take and it just hit me that ryze and brand have pretty much the same skills and i mean on qwe. The main difference between their 3 main skills is their passive and how it amplifies their skills. Ryze and brand have a skill shot q and the similar part start to kick in on the passives where they either stun do bonus damage and aoe. the main difference is ryze is the turbo version of brand and the slight differences in how their passive effects their over all combo. so now im curious on if the similarities in their kit has to do with their lore? as if i am not mistaken ryze was supposed to be brands teacher.
