I've seen Plat Solo Q, Bronze Flex. I'm Bronze Solo Q, Silver Flex. And I've seen tons of other players with different combinations. So what is the difference? Why is there a gap?

The gap is through one of two things:

  1. They play with their good allies in Flex, and their friends carry them.

  2. They only play a little bit of one queue, and none of the other.

Usually the gap is because they only tried in one. Like you might be plat SoloQ with hundreds of games and bronze or silver Flex with only 15 games. Could the plat player rise in flex if they put the same effort in? Sure. But why would they?

Alternatively, it could be because they play flex with a friend or friends. Maybe these friends carry them to a higher rank then they could reach on their own. Or maybe they are playing with friends lower tier then them and they are held back.

Flex I find is random. No one tries there and/or uses it to play with friends with huge skill gaps. I'm my experience most people just use flex for practicing new roles/champions even when with weaker friends. Pre game starts seem to back that assessment up.

I had a team raging in chat I reminded them it's flex and we q'd up to learn, but tryhard and get back to practicing. They legit thanked me, went tryhard and were calm the rest of the game lol.
