Diablo Immortal is a great example of a gaming company disaster.

I've been a die hard Diablo fan since 2005, pretty much to the point where I would spend countless hours as a kid playing Diablo 2 and grind out my Characters (Mainly Necro cause I always thought summoning the undead was badass), farming for items, trying new builds and building great friendships.

However, when Diablo 3 came around, waiting 10 or so years for a new game to release, I was sadly disappointed because it was just another "World of Warcraft" to me, of course I did buy it and played, but only for a month before I just got incredibly bored of it. It didn't have that "Dark and uncomfortable" feel like D2 did, it was more of like "Look at the graphics and pretty colors".

Now, another 5 years have passed, and we get a fucking Mobile game. Are you kidding me? There isn't even going to be a hardcore option because "they're afraid that something could go wrong with your device so you would lose your character". I have never seen a con get boo'd at so badly like I have this one.

Of course, I am aware this is a League of Legends boards community, but I'm sure there are Diablo players who play both. I'm just here to vent my frustration, they just need to bring back Blizzard North already cause Blizzard made my favorite series turn into absolute dogshit.

Oh come on, it isn't that bad, don't you have a phone?

I'm gonna make a bold statement:

Diablo Immortal isn't that bad itself, it's the fact that the presentation of it was bad.

For a direct comparison, look at Bethesda's conference at E3. The only thing they had to show for Elder Scrolls was a mobile game. And yeah, people were literal "whatever" about it. However, at the end, they said "Oh, by the way..." and showed a teaser for Elder Scrolls 6. Now sure, we can complain about the trailer, Elder Scrolls, whatever, but the important thing is that Bethesda gave something to all fans, be you a mobile gamer or not.

Blizzard, in comparison, ONLY had Diablo Immortal. That was it. For a playerbase specific centered around PC Gaming with the biggest direct competitor being Path of Exile, only having a mobile port was suicide. Hell, you didn't even need much. Just a little briefing that yeah, Diablo 2 Remastered or Diablo 4 is on the way and we'll have more to share soon.

Do I think people would have totally forgotten about Immortal? No, there's always going to be someone upset. But if a Diablo 4 or D2 Remaster had been announced, Immortal would have landed on a mattress or a trampoline. As it was, it landed on concrete with a particularly rusty needle that happened to hit the spine.

I understand the hate for them revealing that, because honestly they should've just revealed nothing at all then, but the hate for them making the mobile game I don't understand. They act like Blizzard doesn't have separate teams for separate things just like Riot. There's a skin team, they make skins. I see people complaining like, "wtf why are riot making new skins!!??? They should be fixing their game ):<<!!!" Like that's the balance teams job. The skin team making or not making skins does not affect the balance team.

The same thing is happening to diablo. People are getting pissed that they have people working on this mobile game, not realizing they have separate teams. Why do you want someone that's good at coding mobile games to work on the new Diablo??????? Like what?? They obviously have a separate team for the new Diablo, if they're even planning to make another Diablo. So like I said, I understand the anger at the game being revealed at something like BlizzCon, where people pay money to go out and see what their favorite games are making. Like some people probably only paid for the diablo part, so it was kinda like a scam, but you shouldn't be mad at the game just for being made. If anything this mobile game will just make Blizzard tons of money and then they'll have even more funding for the new Diablo. The audience wasn't that bad until that guy made the april fools joke. Like imo this is just one huge hate bandwagon of people refusing to see a bigger picture.

As someone who played WoW, I've seen this happen again and again. It's like the Draenor hate wagon. It was a loved expansion for a ton of collectors and the raiding was pretty nice too. Who hated it though? People who didn't like the lack of DAILY QUESTS (those feel like chores... so I don't understand that) and people who didn't like the cut content. Like if Blizz never revealed all their cut content at blizcon, the xpac would've been just fine tbh. Just like how if they didn't reveal this mobile game at blizcon, it would've gone fine tbh. Like look at WoW now, people are complaining about too many daily quests and too much content.

Hate bandwagons are something you need to be aware of as a person. They're easy to join, and once you're in one, you're essentially limiting yourself to only hating on something and not actually thinking about it logically. It's hard to tell when you've joined on too. For example: the fiora hate bandwagon. You just complain about how op fiora is non stop instead of coming to the realization that if you did your research you would find out that an early ninja tabi's and bramble vest make her extremely easy to deal with. Do people stop hating on her tho? No. It's a hate wagon. There isn't any logic behind it. Get off while you can.

I said on another website I frequent:

"Games companies will seemingly go out of their way to not make the games we actually want."

I'm waiting on a new Diablo (I enjoyed 3 but I'm mainly a console gamer and didn't play 2), new Dragon Age, new Elder Scrolls, new Fallout, new Final Fantasy.

What we are gettng: Diablo Mobile to fleece you of micro transactions. Anthem, the game to complete with Destiny even though Destiny is dead. Another Skyrim HD collection after another. A MP Fallout MMO/Service, instead of a Fallout game with a story and narrative that I can just join my friends game as his companion in. FF15 again and again and again... make FF16 already, I didn't buy FF15 as it didn't have FF gameplay.

Only game coming that is one from my younger years is Kingdom Hearts and I think after 12 years since KH2, I've kinda out grown it.

They are remastering the best RTS game ever made though

Diablo Immortal is an example of bad marketing. Simple as that.

If they'd announced Diablo Immortal as ANYTHING other that a headline act of Blizzcon, it would've likely been well received.

Announcing it as the headline act of Blizzcon sends the impression that they feel this is what their core fanbase wants most of all, which makes people annoyed at the presumption and anxious about what that misconception means for their core games.

Same here just played the game 1 year later, also favourite class was necromancer, I feel your disappointment but thats just marketing mate. They spending time and effort on perspective platforms like phones.

I just uninstalled a few days ago. I'm gonna wait for D4 and cross my fingers. I think the D3 model where basically you start from scratch every Season, is not sustainable. It should be just one game. The season should be still using the leveled up heroes.

Same thing is happening to Blade & Soul. They're literally releasing three new games. All called Blade and soul "insert a letter or number here"

EDIT: On mobile to be specific.

I haven't even played Diablo, but watching their gameplay trailer... yikes!

45 seconds into the gameplay trailer I'm bored to death. I went back later and counted, only to realize I'd only seen 9 seconds of gameplay at this point... in a gameplay trailer... If this is their "best foot forward", then the best part of this game isn't the gameplay.

Because I'm bored to death and because of the cheesy "look at this phone screen fly into your face" intro, I'm paying more attention to the way the ad is structured rather than the content itself. It's relying heavily on the music to sell "THIS IS EXCITING, ISN'T IT!?!", and the video never has continuous gameplay segments that last more than 2 or 3 seconds before they cut to text or to a different piece of gameplay. This is what film makers do when they've trying to drive up a intensity in a sequence, but with the way it's executed it feels like the only intensity is in the editing/music, not the gameplay.

I saw one clip in the trailer that made me slightly interested in the game. Just one. And it was when the character jumps onto a rope over a big cavern and starts repelling down. The cut right after it shows them being attacked by spiders while still on the rope. THAT was interesting! The rest of it was too hard to tell what was going on, other than generic combat particles everywhere.

Given the whole announcement was a out-of-this-world communication catastrophe, developing a mobile spin off is not worrisome per see. Fallout shelter did it and did it good.

Outsourcing the game to a Chinese company... that's a bad sign for the future of the company. Blizzard is known for quality and passion. Instead of suing a company that makes Diablo copypasta cookie cutter mobile games for the chinese market, they pay them off to recycle material from those games and build up an original full fledged installation of the series, and (insult to injury) they try too hard to hype it up.

That's shady, that's greedy, that's worrisome.

My disappointment went right through the roof.

I personally enjoyed D3 & it's Reaper if Souls Expansion. While most of my friends loved it for the Seasonal Dungeon Crawling, I liked it for the storyline (Didn't get to play the first 2 games in the franchise). I wanted to see a continuation of the story, but instead we got a Mobile Game that takes place before D3 that will most likely fail to meet expectations.

Now Blizzard did say that "We have other unannounced Diablo projects in development". So while the chances of that follow up to the Reaper of Souls might be one of those projects, it will most likely be another 5-10 years before we see anything decent for Diablo.

All they had to do. Literally the only thing was announce HD D2 as a thing, and then they could have added Diablo Immortal on as an afterthought

"HD D2 IS HAPPENING!" "oh, we're also looking forward to expanding into the mobile market for those of you who want to join us. And it will tie in to the storyline!"

I have the same feeling, I hate what activision made out of my favorite game compagny. Not a single good game.

Have you tried Path of Exile? It's basically more of a successor to Diablo 2 than Diablo 3 is
