There is absolutely no need to "defend yourself" in an anonymous environment.

I'm not trying to come off as rude or harsh, but when a toxic player is egging you on and belittling you, your first action should not be "I'm going to reply to this player". You wanna know why? Because that's EXACTLY what they want you to do, it's a game to them and you fell right into their trap.

A given example is if your Kha'zix jungle is taking Skuttle crab level 2, where the enemy jungler is there to contest and Kha'Zix dies, and his response to the situation is to blame you, don't even bother responding. Don't defend yourself, because the truth of it all is, he won't even remember your damn summoner name after a minute of pressing "play again". He won't even remember what you even played as an hour from then, nor remember the game in general a day from now.

Believe me, I have sympathy for you guys who easily get offended because you just want everyone to like you, or whatever the case may be, but there is literally no excuse for you to retaliate. The muting option is there for a reason, and to be frank with you, 9 times out of 10, the chat option only causes problems, so unless you're playing normals to make friends or in a party with someone, just do yourself a favor and mute everyone in the game.

Putting your account on the line because someone was an ass in game isn't worth it. Those are the type of players who are just so upset with themselves to the point where they vent their frustration on a video game, so it's not worth your time and effort to reply. I do pity them, I really do, but it's just how the internet is, and you trying to defend yourself is only making the situation worse for you, because I can assure you, they are going to get punished regardless depending on what they type.

Again, my purpose of this post was not to hurt those who are truly just trying to defend themselves. The purpose of my post was to protect your account, because in actuality, the mute button is the best way to defend yourself. If someone was screaming in your face in person, wouldn't you just wish you could turn their volume down or put a piece of tape over their mouth?

The person who gets mad first loses, always remember that.

I never talk or respond. It's not worth wasting your time over someone you're never gonna see again.

I dont have sympathy. because most of them are those same people that push to punish any slight chat negativity. just because of their personal issue of being sensitive.

the same thing applies to internet forums and people who like to scream about "sjws" and whatever else, I do actually try to argue with them because ideally id like to change thier minds and If i get banned from the forums its not a big deal, but I make sure to stop when it gets to be too much, obviously they think this means they have "won" but most of the time the benefit of arguing with them is for other people to see it and be swayed.

kinda gets into victim blaming territory and people are going to use this to justify them saying horrific things and shit on people who want a better game environment, case in point one of the resident Doll's eye is already using your post to push this agenda

standing up to shitty people is the right thing to do but in this case it doesn't matter

anyway yes overall it is best to not engage with shitty people or if you DO, do so in a way that is not going to get you banned, "killing them with kindness" or nonsensical silly things

I think a large part of the idea of "defending yourself" comes from the false assumption that more reports increases the chance that you'll be punished. That means that the person falsely accused in all chat of saying something abusive feels compelled to respond and refute those charges and try to convince the opposing team to not report them.

And based on that and the number of people that I've seen chat restricted/banned for calling for someone to be reported, Riot really, really, really fucking needs to do a better job of informing players that 1 report accomplishes exactly the same thing as 9 reports. If they could get every player to understand that, I suspect that alone would do more to reduce negative chat than all the bans in the world.

I got permabanned for repeatedly defending myself because i refused to press the mute button. This thread is helpfull but you have to keep in mind that when you mute someone you dont actually defend yourself, basically ur letting someone **walk all over you **.

The way the game is built, it encourages flaming and blaming of others. I wouldn't blame these players. Riot has to find a solution to build their game better so it can become more enjoyable for everyone. The community is toxic only because of the game itself. It's a team based game but their communication tools are utter garbage. Like for example, if someone is pinging "On the way to the location" why not play a friendly sound with the voice of the champion saying something like.. "Don't worry i'm on my way!" a simple bell sound doesn't sound counter intuitive to flaming at all, It just encourage it. That's just lazy game development. its a small detail, but its changes the vibe and overall feel of the game. I use to enjoy this game, but putting stuff like instructive words in the loading screen and having a honor reward system to counter bad behavior is plain lazy. Players just wanting to play the game will not correct their bad behavior just because there's a reward system, and hovering players with a ban scare is lazy as well. And don't even get me started with the game balance. Anyways, Players will just stop playing when they feel the game is no longer fun. I'm one of those players. I've come back to play every month, just to see if the game has gotten any better, and it hasn't. Still the same toxic stuff. I use to love this game and its charm, but I'm ready to let it go by the end of 2018. I'm just simply not having fun anymore and a game is suppose to be fun.. I'm kinda disappointed Riot. (sorry, this is a rant, and probably in the wrong thread, im not a forum guy.. just wanted to put it somewhere riot might see it)

Hahaha this is the most care bear society lovey dove everything is alright crap I have ever read.

So basically don't defend yourself because the system is against you if you do. That is what is wrong with the game. Everyone thinks if they ignore the negative trolls that they will go away. In the meantime if you don't like something and want to say something about it enjoy the ban.
