Why do I feel like I play worse with certain champs the more I play them?

I first started playing syndra Syndra during the star guardian event and really liked her kit. I played her in some norms and in some ranked games and did well. Had about a 85% win rate with her for about 15 or so games with mostly very high KDA ratio. But then a certain point I started playing worse I feel, missing farm, KDA ratio is crap now. Does anyone else experience this? The more they play a champ the worse they get?

**I think it could be a few things when playing a new champ.

  1. **When you first play a new champ you usually play safer and smarter since you are unsure about most things. 2. You tend to want to group more and focus objectives to get teammate help with a new champ. **3. **'Well if I lose, its cuz I am playing a new champ and if I win great' You play with a more relaxed mindset.

**I think I hit a wall and started doing worse when this happened.

  1. **I got more confident and started pushing boundaries way too far. (ie overextending, trading too much instead of farming) 2. Not fully understanding match-ups or being exposed to them yet. (zed, yasuo & fizz are all nightmares for me and are meta) 3. Could just be playing against better players that just know how syndra's kit works and her counters.

Anyone else feel this way? Why does it seem you play better with new champs? Why do you sometimes get worse the more you play them?

Pretty much what you said - people tend to play more carefully and with lower expectations when on a new champ, then they get confident and start doing things that push the limits and get punished for it.

You can actually see this pretty easily in most champions 'winrate vs games played' graphs where more experienced players are shown to have a higher winrate, before it suddenly tanks.

The neat thing though is that these graphs also tend to tip back up to even higher winrates if you push through and keep playing games.

Think of it like this - you have to go through a period of experimentation in order to find your limits and reach new levels of skill... and you're naturally going to lose more often when you are pushing your limits and get punished for it. It's something you have to do to improve but its not something you want to be doing in ranked games.

So if you are aware of this, then look to actively experiment with stuff in normals and then play more like your 'new' self who never does anything they aren't 100% sure of when in ranked games.

I'd say part of it is you end up playing vs better opponents if you win a lot

But most of it is likely just not having experienced all the potential matchups yet

I thought it was just me

Guess I have to cycle through picks and roles to keep my effort high

Ya I am mainly getting really awkward match ups I am not familiar with.

Last game got destroyed by an Anivia. I found out that wall range = instant death after 6

Lost an Azir last game too and did well in lane but their jungler and new Xin rework made him annoying.

Lost to a Jayce due to crazy range and crazy burst with flash ignite hammer time etc.

I want to get better at Harrassing with my abilties pre 3 or 6 since thats what syndra seems to do well (at least when I watch Faker play her) landing her W is a bitch, super slow animation, enemy sees it coming etc

Maybe you moved up an ELO as you won more? That happened to me. I just got this game 2 weeks ago and am in the very painful process of expanding my hero pool. It turns out that playing mostly 1 hero means you don't have as much experience with other roles, which makes you lose more if you can't play that hero. My main issue is that so far I tend to like characters who can either severly outrange their opponents or have some method of regaining health, and thus, I have yet to find a melee hero that I like. So I can basically play support and mid, and am now trying to find heroes I like for Jungling, ADC, and Top.

It's... a work in progress. That's going pretty badly. I'm still "meh" as any ADC, although I feel like that role isn't insanely hard to fill if needed.
