been playing support exclusively since season 5 specifically tank supports, almost every time riot tried to change something with supports they made it harder for me to play, and now this ...

tank supports no longer have sustain and much much more susceptible to poke
ancient coin removed and with that passive play is out of the window , so if you are playing soraka, playing against hard counter, or simply getting stomped in bot you cant play passively because right now the current support items encourage aggressive/risky play.
between shared xp nerfs and dragon rework i assure you bot lane is going to be a prime target for camping

honestly why do i even bother ? am just gonna pick up my things and go top lane .

Tank supports now were relatively unaffected by the changes. Mages and enchanters have far less poke with mana regen and damage on hit/spell being removed.

ncient coin removed and with that passive play is out of the window , so if you are playing soraka, playing against hard counter, or simply getting stomped in bot you cant play passively because right now the current support items encourage aggressive/risky play.

I don't understand this. The targon's passive isn't removed and all mage supports have less resources to work with. If anything bot lane is far less aggressive unless you're an engage support ala Leona.

I don't understand this. The targon's passive isn't removed and all mage supports have less resources to work with. If anything bot lane is far less aggressive unless you're an engage support ala Leona.

am talking about this item 3304 which gives you mana or gold whenever a minion dies next to you , that item removed now so you have 2 options either poke to get gold or get close and execute minions to get gold .

they might've reduced the mana regain and removed the on hit dmg but that is the case until the first back in which they will buy an ap item . and with supports such as Lux Morgana etc .. they will hurt and you have no way to heal back

Dude, you can now build a 2900~ish gold tank item straight up lol. Then you can go into utility or whatever, I fail to see how it's any worse now.

me neither it's like the 2k worth of free stats for 400 gold is not enough and potions are not something they should be thinking about who knows

there is a thing called refillable and riot specifically changed dorans shield so you can buy it on your first back

hay im not here to tell you how to play the game but i will tell you that your reluctance to consider your options and change your patterns is the reason you are frustrated doesn't mean that that frustration is justified honestly it just makes you look like somebody that won't ever be satisfied

even if tomorrow bill gates dropped with his heli on your porch and donated to you 10 million you would still complain because what is 10 million to bill gates he should have given you 50 million minimum

considering the development of the pro scene in the last 2 years passive play is not the way to play

like i said as tank in early game you are much more susceptible to poke since you have no sustain at all and every time you come close to a minion (cuz you are a melee) the enemy will poke you and you have no way to heal unless you use potion

also how are you going to complete the support upgrades if you are a poke/heal support your self and you are playing against a hard counter ? or generally you are just getting stomped ? since obviously you are going to have either item 3850 item 3862 which requires you to poke and in a situation like this will be very risky dont get me wrong the 'extra' gold is nice but when it comes at the price of this , no thanks

I've made a thread on this but there's almost no reason for any support to go the spellthief line since it doesn't offer anything the targon's one doesn't. They both cap at 1000 so really the fact that mid/late spellthief can be proc'd easier doesn't mean anything.

alright i will bite , you convinced me but that still leaves the issue of melee supports having an issue against poke , sure i can buy potions but now i will buy more than i used to , so instead of going back to lane with 2 potions now i have to get back with 4,5 potions assuming the enemy knows what they are doing and constantly harass me

You're putting yourself at risk too much for no reason if you need more than two potions per back. Don't just walk in range of an enemy without a plan. If you're an engage support, set yourself up in a way that if they try to poke you, you get a clear shot for a hook. You should be able to buy refillable pot on first back and have it be enough for the rest of the game.

I'm not defaulting into tanks while playing the role but when I do play them it's Maokai or maybe Braum or Nautilius but assuming that I'm playing them there's a precise reason I'll pick them i.e they give me the edge in lane (at least on paper) so I'm not sure how much of an issue that is for me personally.

Except the targon item now works on ranged with a 30% threshold lol, I'm thinking I'll want that by default on some of the enchanters even if guts my AP ratios but maybe that's just me. Besides the game begins in the drafting phase not after the loading screen if you know what I mean.

i know what you mean but its not every time where the enemy support or bot in general will pick before you also sometimes you will have to compromise and pick a champion that is countered because your team needs it so while you are countered in lane you wont be so much in teamfights. at least that is in my case since i have enough experience with tank supports or leona specifically to handle my counters and even win against them at worst case the lane will be in a deadlock .

Hook/engage supports have been strong for a while now. Their sustain was nerfed. Braum, Alistar etc who've been worse off can be compensated, but in general early support strength was nerfed, which is a good thing.

You now have the option to go relic shield on passive supports without risking yourself for gold. "What am I supposed to do with ap/ad on leona??", it's to make exactly this viable. Mage supports were a horrible addition and have been nerfed, rightfully so.
