After playing so much Overwatch...

I realized how much I love Riot Games. They update their game so much more frequently than Blizzard. I feel like their balance team more or less knows how to balance their game, and how to do so throughout most levels of play. For the most part, they know what feels good to play against and what feels bad to play against.

Not to mention, they communicate with their players a lot more. I think the best thing about Riot Games though is their ability to take criticism. If Blizzard even thinks you MIGHT be calling out their development team, they'll delete your post immediately. For the amount shit of this these Rioters get, they got some thick skin...

Seriously, we take Riot for granted. Disagree with me/ flame me all you want. Don't care. Riot Games is infinitely better than Blizzard and that is my very strong opinion!

Whoever said this was just salty about something. League and Overwatch are not in the same category at all. If anything, it might've killed interest in some other popular FPS games. But MOBAs were safe regardless of how you'd look at the situation.

This happens literally every change though. Quite literally every major change of any kind. It always ends up with people being pissy and whiny, complaining how shit the game is, company is, how other games do xxx better but then keep playing. It becomes how predictable these cycles.

Here watch, let me perfectly explain what will happen with the most recent change:

People will whine and bitch, complain that THIS change is the final straw that THIS change will be the one that kills the game, THIS change will be the one to get the people to leave in droves.

Riot will state their side, will get down voted until they simply decide to stop responding to it.

Forum post after forum post will be made about how other games do these systems better, how their free to play model is better, how greedy this company is all the while continuing to once again, not leave the game.

Riot will do some kind of change to get the pressure off and placate said angry mob

People who were complaining and once again stil not leaving the game will continue to complain and find yet another thing to botch about.

Rinse and repeat.

This community likes to constantly whine about things but has shown over and over and over again that their whining is hollow because so few of them actually follow through with most of their whining.

Yes people complain a lot about balance changes, but this isn't just a small balance change. Runes have been removed completely and you no longer gain IP (or blue essence) after playing a game. After seeing the math that other players have done, everyone knows it's going to take much longer to unlock anything in this game. And you're wrong. People actually are leaving this game. Who knows how many more people will quit because of this sh*tty system.

It's true. I'm almost not playing league at all anymore. It's mostly because of Riots shitty matchmaking but these new runes are horrid.

About the same amount of people that leave with every change, also, every system didn't factor in several things to make the system seem outright worst like not factoring in price reduction with champion shards.

I agree, i felt this way a lot with the star guardian skins. ALL people did was cry about how they were not as "perfect" as they imagined. To me it's like, until you produce your own custom skins of equal or greater quality, then stop talking. People in this community are never satisfied.

that being said, I do actually have a legitimate problem with this new blue ess system. I've been fortunate enough to be able to grind about a level every 1.5 days, but with cripplingly small rewards. Since the change I've made about 1200 blue ess through 7 levels, many shards being worth a pathetic 90 be. The old system would have me with relatively 2k or more in my pocket, given how much I play. It's ridiculous that league is being transformed into a grind heavy game with this change. The REASOn I play league is because it's quick and fun with grinding OPTIONal for success.

I want to be able to buy zoe on release, but given how unpredictable the loot system is, I don't know if I will even make the mark. On top of that, the cost for mastery upgrades is as much as a champion costs. That sincerely pissed me off. The whole point of this system is to force people to grind or pay more in order to get what they want in a similar time frame. I consider it a disservice to a loyal fanbase.

See this is a fair argument rather then just the grind is worst, waaaah.

It is reasonas like this that I think riot should add BE after wins or at least after a first win of the day which they are I believe.

Overall however, the grind itself hasn't changed like the amount of time to get champions hasn't changed because people had to also factor in runes being spent and sucking away your ip.

I don't mind a grind I have never minded a grind on free to play games, it is expected at this point, I knew the grind wasn't gonna change because no matter how much any company wants to seem like the good guy or want to keep their player base happy, none are willingly going to cut into their own profits for that sake.

The only part that boggled my mind with OW was them saying that "Toxicity is causing us to be slow on game updates".

The hell?

League/DOTA have arguably worse communities and both either update frequently (league) or push a massive patch at least once/twice a year (DOTA). Better yet, why the fuck is the art team slowing down hero ideation/concepts? Why do you have Jimmy in modeling working in player behavior?

What they mean is they have to spend resources on player behavior because its making poeple not want to play Overwatch since their moderation is way too loose

Which is still dumb since people intentionally ruining games whether it be through attitude or griefing like Symmetra teleporter facing off cliffs is going to ruin the quality of your game no matter how good the individual playing pieces feel to use. There's no point to an online competitive game if everyone online is just trolling, there should at least be some basic player behavior control. It's something that should be taken into consideration but its not like having someone making the report system actually work is taking the artists and game designers off the new hero/map, its a pretty dumb excuse.

If you have ever been on console you would undestand how that community was so much worse than league. I was in top 500 for console and to say the least in almost every game you were guaranteed to have someone yelling at another person either for their pick, a play they made or some other reason. You also had to worry about ddos, leavers, throwers, boosted acounts, etc. I could continue this list on for awhile as before they created a report system for consol you were skrewed in the ranked scene for a majority of the time as the console report systems are trash and only have minor punishments for behavior that if it was done in league would net you a ban. The high ranked scene in overwatch was that bad that blizzard needed to take more resources to deal with it. People could literally do as they please on consol and if they did not get what they wanted they would just mess up your experience.

I mean, if toxicity was a problem for updates Dota would still be in Beta and League would be stuck somewhere in Season 4...

I don't think you've been playing quite that much Overwatch, then...True, League get's updated much more frequently, but those balance changes always result in a pretty hardcore "flavor of the month" effect where something ends up being disproportionately powerful. The only thing that Blizzard allowed to be OP for too long was Mercy. And tbh, having a resurrect skill in a game like that was bound to be a balance nightmare, no matter how you slice it.

Not to mention, they communicate with their players a lot more. I think the best thing about Riot Games though is their ability to take criticism. No. This is factually inaccurate. Jeff Kaplan (lead dev on OW) regularly interacts with the community. And you'll provide citations for Blizzard deleting posts. I have never heard of this. Riot, however, is very good at banning players unjustly, waiting about 3 weeks while they post in the forums, then realizing their fuck up and reaching out to try to fix it. Never heard of this happening at Blizzard.

Its true that some champions and tactics inevitably become FoTM after each patch. That's fine, it happens in both games. However, I believe that Riot does a much better job fixing them quickly. Junkrat has been busted for quite a while now. Mercy and Roadhog were allowed to run rampant ruining games for others for months before Blizzard decided they were an issue.

I can't cite anything because the posts get deleted...

Same boat as you I got my account suspended on the ow boards for asking if Blizzard dev team stopped listening to the community for balance(hog mercy etc) and what was the current game state since I uninstalled and had not kept up with anything, got tons of upvotes and good responses then BAM suspension

Ya ow sucks big time and the sheep that play the game have been indoctrinated to such a point they threat the lack of permanent content and everything being behind loot boxes as good things and that they are privileged to be able to support ow via buying loot boxes ignoring the simple fact

THAT OW IS A FULL PRICED GAME THAT SOLD MILLIONS AND IS OWNED BY ONE OF THE BIGGEST MORE WEALTHY GAMING COMPANIES IN THE WORLD

Blizzard's official response to slow updates is that they have to update the consoles at the same time and that is a time consuming process that slows them down.

Blizzard is banning people who play off-meta heroes now and refusing to revoke the bans

At least with the Singed support shit Riot admitted they were wrong eventually and they don't ban someone for one-tricking a champion if they legitimately try

Not only that but they designed Ranked in that game to reward one tricking more than wins or losses, there's a reason you could get Mercy into top 500 with a 40% winrate. Game loves gold medals more than wins. Oh and even though they'll ban you for playing an off-meta hero as your main they don't ban people for actual bad behavior unless its recorded on stream and people rage at Blizzard thousands of times about it.

Overwatch is a decent game that's dumping all of its resources into a shitty esports League that doesn't even include all the regions (1 London, 1 Korea, and 1 China and visas are preventing China from even having a full team) and has a slow as hell production schedule. There's 3 heroes/3 maps per year which is good because of the amount of detail but they're not even doing events proper anymore and they almost never rebalance heroes without outright reworks. Overwatch could be a good game but it seems like Blizzard really has fucked up priorities.

Blizzard with their current "balance" state the past few months has been an appaling mess.

If it wasn't for the gamblebox craze, I'd say blizzard was up there in absolute ridiculous affairs.

#I was actually BANNED from their forums because I stated facts about the Mercy rework as well as the fact that they literally went out of their way to ignore all feedback in a post with over 3.2k POSTS in it.

I know people who have been BANNED purely for calling out developers, and not even rudely. POLITELY and even complimenting blizzard. That's how goddamn ridiculous it is. Want to compliment someone? PREPARE TO BE BANNED.

Blizzard is ridiculous.

If it wasn't for the gamblebox craze in battlefront and shadow of war I'd have a lot to say. But alas, there are more critical issues than simply being a normal PR nightmare.

I really enjoy OW because it reminds me of league, but it's an FPS. I think Blizzard still does a good job of listening to players, not nearly as good as Riot, but compared to the current state of games, its not too shabby.

However, I've never been on the boards, so I don't know. I just like playing Roadhog, the ultimate waifu.

The last I checked The league boards were saltier than the overwatch boards but goddamn the overwatch boards were more poisonous, like I was almost getting r/incel vibes.

That was a while ago though, they may have changed; I’m not sure because I’ve never had any desire to look at them again.

The balance team is pretty solid imo, but they really don't communicate or even acknowledge the community on the boards at all.

Take, for example, the offline status that was promised to Diablo players back in 2013 that they mysteriously pulled from planning and never implemented. They expressly refuse to respond to any mention of said feature even though they promised players it was coming all that time ago. The same applies to patch questions and bug reports on the boards; they won't respond unless they get a massive amount of attention, and they won't respond more than once to a single thread. They also never acknowledge feedback or ask questions--they just read some things and if they decide it's worth addressing we have no idea what the change is or when they plan to do it.

They just suck at communication all around--especially compared to Riot. I really wish that Riot would get the recognition they truly deserve for just how much time they put into getting the game right and listening to/weighing feedback.

EgoLain3 votes

Yeah I haven't played Overwatch in like 6+ months because nothing has really changed. Sure some heroes got reworked a bit (Mercy, D.va) but the meta is just so stale and boring. Also OW's overall skill ceiling is rather low when compared to LoL, or even HotS. Only fun stuff is playing with friends and arcade really.

rtbf2256182413 votes

Um..isn't Blizzard's content usually of high quality? Also, i'm pretty sure it is infinitely harder to update OW without adding entire heroes or permanent maps into it. Something Riot never (maps) does or does on a long cooldown aswell (champions).

You're comparing completely different games and i'm pretty sure it's easier to update League when you have state of the art equipment for it. Idk how Blizzard handles their stuff or how much they make for their tools.

Riot may very well be updating their game more than Blizzard, but that doesn't mean Riot is better. If I'm not mistaken, (I don't play Overwatch so I'm not entirely sure), League of Legends has more technical and complicated elements in it, which in turn require much more examination and balancing.

Am I right? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Also League has been around MUCH longer, therefore, a lot more work has been put into League than Overwatch.

Again, that doesn't mean Riot is better. Many of Riot's changes are absolute crap. That's with any gaming company. You can't please everyone.

I absolutely agree with you that not everything Riot does is perfect. For example, look at the current state of Marksmen. Not so fun...

However, as someone who has played a lot of Overwatch, I find it very frustrating that it takes Blizzard so long to comment on the game's glaring issues and fix them. The game gets very stale very fast.

I'd also like to address your point about League being around longer. This is true, but Blizzard has more games and more experience under belt.

I also did say that it was my opinion. Maybe some people enjoy Overwatch more than I do.

Here's an example: I was an almost completely one-trick roadhog (like 8 hours of hog to 1 on mccree, my second most played) from s1-s3 (~57 at s1, hovered in low masters in s3 placements) which was the time period i played OW. Hog was literally the most fun hero in the game for me, and the game very clearly had bigger issues then his hook at the time (cough DVA) but when they got around to reworking it the first time they made it more smooth but hog became actually broken (which was insanely fun to play lol). Then, they reworked him AGAIN and apparently he's still very good, but he doesn't feel nearly as fun to play as than before. They f'ed up the thing i and other hog mains loved about roadhog: his unique playstyle. They made him into another sissy low-damage tank which is SUUUUPER residentsleeper to play as compared to his previous iterations as the badass squishy oneshotter. It just shows how long it takes for them to fix issues, and then they ban people for criticizing that trait of the balance team. LOL ok.

It's not easy to balance a game well, and I doubt roadhog is easy to balance either, but their balancing has just been bad, even with those low standards set. not to mention the game is B O R I N G now. Oh yea and the community suuuuuucks, it only got worse as the seasons went by
