Why are various skin rules being broken with Taliyah?

First off, a rule with Worlds skins was that any champion getting one would not disrupt the process of them getting other skins already in development - see SKT and Star Guardian Syndra, Sweetheart and SSG Xayah/Rakan, and of course, Blood Moon, Project and SKT Jhin. It was also stated that Worlds skins will not count towards a champions Skin count - so they're basically like a filler episode from an anime. Anyone can get one but they don't count or matter in the long run. However, on the day of reveal of SSG Taliyah, it was confirmed that she wasn't even being considered for getting an actual skin at all.

From a twitter thread from a Riot employee: > Random Person: SSG Taliyah is out of the 'regular agenda' for Taliyah skins, right? I mean, she can get a new skin soon(tm) with a non e-sports thematic Riot Employee: Yes, she can - but as of right now there isn't one planned (but we go into planning for next year shortly).

Not gonna link the specific employee because I don't want anyone getting the idea of a witch hunt, but just google "taliyah wont be getting another skin" and it's the first link.

This means multiple things. 1, Taliyah never had another skin being worked on for her until SSG. 2. She was never even considered for a skin seeing as they'll only start coming up with ideas after this one releases. And 3. She'll be waiting a longer period of time for a skin than Aurelion Goddamn Sol. The champion who's literally the leader of the No New Skin Champs Rebellion.

But that's not the only rule being broken here. Another rule being broken is the Legacy rule - where any champion's first skin after release - regardless of what it is - will stay available in the store all year round. See Snow Day Bard, Sweetheart Xayah and Rakan, Officer Vi and Haunted Zyra. But when the SSG skins were put onto the PBE, this was stated. > A quick note about SSG Taliyah. Normally, a champion’s launch skin is left in the store for an extended period of time. However, our World Champion skins are only available for limited periods of time. You’ll be able to get SSG Taliyah now, and again later this year during Worlds.

So, what gives? Why is Taliyah getting shafted super hard with her first new skin after 2 years of waiting?

The thing is, Riot doesn't have any hard rules actually. Meaning that all of this is considered in the process, but that doesn't mean that they will always follow it.

Back when they announced Akali as the next VGU slot after Irelia, I asked Meddler about this since they stated they avoid doing champs of the same region twice in a row. Akali and Irelia are both Ionian.

The answer I got was "just because we try to avoid it doesn't mean it will never happen".

So yeah, same for Taliyah here. They try to avoid giving legacies as the first skin to champions, but it still can happen as you see right here.

And technically, just because Taliyah wasn't considered for another skin yet is not breaking a rule. There is nothing saying when a champ gets a skin. They get it when they get it.

It's sad, but that's how it is.

It's not breaking a rule. Riot might just not hav any plans or ideas for her right now. Or they're being tight lipped about announcing thing because they dont want another Ao Shin.

That said, Surfer Tayliah needs to be a thing

Kinda broke that back on SKT Kalista since they said when she was added to the roster (replacing SIvir) that she had another skin in development and yet we've never seen it (and as of now never will).

So it's not like Taliyah is the first to go against some of the things they've said. Taliyah should get the next Conquer skin, then she can join the Esports only skin club with Kalista XD
