''get a whole free item as support'' ignoring the fact that pretty much no one ever built the final upgrade of the support item so that's not really any gold ''saved'' at all
i think that the problems is that riot took away the mana regen from all the support items, now utility supports are dead. Yes the new items are basically free but we are forced to build a heavy mana regen support item to compensate and when you finish that you are doomed because at that point the you finished the gold item and basicaly stops giving you gold and you only survive with assists and because you are playing an utility support you dont get kills and you fell behind and behind everyminute of the game.
The support role is now officially the secretary of the business world. You're in charge of handling certain things for the higher ups, but those tasks are pretty lame overall compared to what the bosses are doing.
I don't know how having a role that is specifically forced to clear vision, and offer utility(aka just adding spells to another player's kit), is fun or interactive. Seems like the other roles actually get to buy items and make damage, meanwhile supports are clearing pink wards and getting exploded by people who actually have gold.
Anyone who argues "well support gets free upgrades". How do you snowball your lead as a support? What do you do to compensate for the loss of mana regen on the AP item? There is such a thing as power swings, from basing at certain timings...now support just randomly gets stronger from achieving a silly quest...they also can't snowball their gold generation hardly at all.
I said on the boards in the middle of the season that the only way to get mages out of bot lane was going to be attacking the gold generation so they can't fund the expensive mage items (ludens, deathcap) instead of the support items. Only thing I didn't see was gold getting nerfed so bad that supports can't afford support items either.
You clearly don't understand what it means to be the SUPPORT of your team. YOU SUPPORT YOUR TEAM, not the other way around. Want infinite amounts of gold income? Pick the carry role and carry
