First tower gold AKA first brick

KORGtuners··1 votes·3,003 views

From my bronze adventures, it seems people are not aware this is a thing.

Is first brick here to stay? Is there a way Riot can explain the mechanics in game?

It is so awkward pushing towers for first brick; while your team is constantly yelling at you to leave their lane. Or another goody, is when your team mates say "I didn't want to take the tower yet."

The term first brick tilts the everliving hell out of me. It just annoys me to my core. What the hell is wrong with first tower gold? I think Zirene said the same thing during one cast where the smug LCK casters were flinging this useless, obscure term around.

I dunno why but its just annoys me to no end because of how utterly pointless it is as a term. It makes zero sense, sounds stupid, and literally does nothing to enhance the understanding of what it actually going on. Just the smugness of the term. Like, these tools sit around and dreamed up a slang word only they understand for something that is the same amount of words. I mean I understand if they were replacing like an entire sentence, but they are replacing First tower with First Brick. I mean its just moronic. Its actually like when NA casters use Delta, but worse.

Everytime I hear it, it sets me off no lie.

To be fair, there are some lanes you want the tower up for as long as possible, like against Nasus for example.

I don't think so. If Nasus freezes the lane, either push it or roam. If Nasus wants to farm in an advanced position with no tower for support, gank.

In a lane that you're stomping, it can prove valuable to leave the tower up because it forces the enemy team to commit resources to protecting that tower while you're applying pressure elsewhere. You could always take the tower immediately, but by leaving a tower at 25% health, enemies often think "oh, I should go protect that" instead of "I should let that wave take the tower so I can contest dragon." or "I should let that tower go (it's dead anyway) and take XYZ objective."

  1. I'm talking about bronze. Where no one protects towers. People legit yell at you when you clear a minion wave at an undefended tower.

  2. Have you ever considered taking the first tower then lane swapping? Or, my personal choice, group and shove the weakened lane. If the other team defends, then rotate and take out their other towers. If they don't defend properly, then keep shoving into the inhibitor.

I'm also Bronze. Been down here for a while, but haven't seen quite the awful things you're describing. If someone gets mad at me (as a jungler) for clearing a wave in front of tower, it's because I didn't realize they were trying to either freeze it or set up a slow push.

Those other strategies work well, but usually best to do them with people on voice comms. In general, being able to set up lane pressure properly so your opponent has to do certain things that impact either them or the rest of their team is the best way to win if you're in a potential carry role.

This season has been mostly support for me, so I'm a little bit out of practice, but minion management is huge, and towers are a decently large part of that.

Also, one other thing that's important to remember: When you take a tower, it allows your opponent to farm further back in their lane, which means they're better protected from ganks, because your jungler has to go through their entire jungle to get to them.

They are doing neither. If you want to freeze a lane, you need to bunch the minions up before they reach the tower. If you want to slow push, you need to have slightly (1-3) more minions than the other side.

Also, one other thing that's important to remember: When you take a tower, it allows your opponent to farm further back in their lane

"Temporarily", farm further back in their lane. Once you break a freeze the wave will reset in the middle where they are at a huge disadvantage. The trouble only comes when you let them freeze a lane for free.

Some champions you just want them to not be relevant at all, which means leaving their tower up to kill your minions while you take theirs behind turret. It creates a huge gold difference.

Wrong.

"Proxy farming", does not create a gold difference. It creates a pressure difference, which may lead to a gold difference some times.

There are only specific situations where proxy farming leads to a gold difference:

The enemy is not in lane, letting the tower kill minions. The enemy chases you, while letting the tower kill minions. The minions wittle away at the tower and eventually take it. The enemy does not know how to last hit under tower and does not stop the minions before reaching the tower.

9 times out of 10 proxy farming results in a gold "trade". Both laners are getting equal gold and experience.

When you kill the laner and push the wave, and someone says "I don't wanna kill the tower yet" it's because the laner isn't there and they want the tower to kill the minions while he isn't, creating the gold difference.

If you do kill the tower with a big wave early on, that gold difference will be lessened and he can catch back up easier. He'll have those minions to actually get gold/exp from.

Absolutely true. I'm sorry it seems I misunderstood you at first.

However, when I refer to people saying "I don't want to kill the tower yet." I am talking about a different situation than the one you described.

A situation where the minions have been "denied". The tower is a couple hits from death. The enemy is enroute. They still refuse to hit the tower.

(Slightly off topic. I think this could be a cultural thing. Some times it feels like people just want to "lane" until 6 items. I don't see this as often in LCK/LPL as I do in NA/EU.)
