I like Juggernauts because they are tanky, not because I can instantly nuke people

juggernauts specifically are supposed to do this by design though. I think what you mean is why people like maokai can do this, and its not exactly OK.

definitly agree... shame can only upvote this once.

Then play a tank and not a juggernaut

Alex h872115 votes

Tbh, I think high DPS (if in range) is okay on Juggernauts, Darius is a good example of this.

But what I think the problem is, is juggernaut burst: Illaoi E>W>R>Q deleting people in a bit over a second (while healing her, lol, balanced), Cho (would argue cho is too immobile to be called a tank rather than a jugg) Ult 1k true damage burst, Nasus when he ults (I count the Q spam as burst).

Though of the examples I think Illaoi is the most blatant, Ive seen an illaoi (not even super fed) get jumped by 4 people and within seconds burst 2 of them down before she died and IMO that is excessive considering how tanky she gets and how much sustain she has built into her kit.

3TWarrior6 votes

well, that's how illaoi is supposed to work though? if her ult is up, players aren't supposed to stay in her zone. Delay a fight 10 seconds and she loses half or more of her offensive power (i'm being generous with that as it's actually a lot more)

GigglesO6 votes

Fights don't last 10 seconds though...

3TWarrior3 votes

nor do people usually challenge an illaoi 4 against 1 past level six and before mid-game team fights XD

"let's take top lane!" "it's illaoi! Get her!"

"an ally has been slain!"

"should we be concerned?"

"pile on illaoi!"

"Double kill!"

Auz the Ripper6 votes

You fight for the one or two seconds it takes her to ult and GTFO because fuck that noise then you can freely engage non-suicidally a little later.

DingDongDanger4 votes

If you're having issues with Illaoi then you haven't figured out how to counter her yet. If you LITERALLY just walk out of range of her ult or save your flash for it (if it's causing you that much trouble) then you'll be fine. I was an Illaoi main for a while and that was the one way people could screw me over was get my ult and then get out of range of it.

The entire way that Illaoi works is she is designed to thrive off of 4 people trying to dive her. The fewer people that attack her, the fewer tentacles spawn, meaning less damage and healing on her end. Now if your entire team doggy piles on her and ALL of you are being hit by the 5 tentacles from her ult and the other 1-2 that would have spawned nearby from her passive, then that's you guys just being dumb.

I don't actually think I've had an issue with an Illaoi in a long time. I just save my escapes for when I bait her ult. Quick ranged poke champs are great against her as well.

Ryusaether3 votes

Illaoi doesn't go as tanky as other juggs and she has no CC, just a slow and its proc is situational af, that's why she has loads of dmg.

Handy Sandy 6 votes

Well that's Illaoi's only thing she's got going for her. If everyone backs out of her ult, she's not threatening anyone until it's back up. That's just how she is, doesn't matter if she's 9/1 or 1/9. Out of all of the bursty juggernauts, I think she's the most healthy because she has clear windows of strength and weakness. Plus skillshots.

kile1471 votes

Cho isn't really a juggernaut or a tank. When they released official class listings Cho fell under "Unique Playstyle". He has too much CC for a juggernaut, too unreliable of cc/engage for a tank, and too little range/ burst to be an AP mage. I don't think that means he can't be talked about with juggernauts though. His real class is basically AP Burst Mage/Tank/Juggernaut depending on his build, and balance changes that impact any of those classes tend to impact him as well.

Damage in the game needs to be lowered overall. Their was still a dire need for a bruiser keystone.

Shuriman Curator5 votes

As a juggernaut main, i agree. Lets take Darius for example, the recent buffs are great! However i wished it was more of stat adjustment. Like more starting armor/mr, maybe higher scaling health etc. Id take that first then look into damage buffs. Thats just me though.

DragonShea4 votes

As a jugg, you trade in some CC and what limited mobility you have as a tank for some extra killing power. You can't protect your allies well anymore but if you are fed, no one on the enemy team wants to see you at the frontline or inside their team, cuz it will turn into a dunkapocalypse.

JackMcSnipeyz4 votes

But that's the point of juggernauts. Sounds like you wanna play a tank, why not pick sion? He's pretty much the juggernauty tank there is.

Troll for Trump3 votes

Well I don't?

They're tanky carries, not meatbags like mundo and voli

GigglesO8 votes

Mundo and volibear are kinda the same class as darius... They are all sort of just juggernauts. If you want someone that just does nuke level damage go play a different class.

Adding damage isn't the solution to everything.

Darius, when he gets his noxian might at least, is SUPPOSED to have nuke-level damage, can't speak for most other juggernauts, but many share this trait with darius; they have conditions that, when accomplished, give them access to nuke level damage.

Troll for Trump3 votes

I know they're in the same class. Not every juggernaut has to be a metabag.

And yes, I want juggernauts to do high amounts of dmg (not mage lvl burst) and still be tanky.

The tradeoff is a lost of mobility.

They need more dmg to bypass the shields and heals, because tankiness won't help them outdps the ADC.

No one asked for nuke levels of damage; they asked for more damage. There's a difference.

If you really are desperate for juggers to live longer, realize that the problem is everything else is doing too much damage, as opposed to juggernauts not being tanky enough; even with 2 defensive items and massive base stats, Juggernauts will still easily get blown up. The only way to truly be tanky is to go defensive runes and have %dmg reduc (stoneplate).

GigglesO1 votes

Riot won’t address that everything else has too much damage though, so it’s easier to ask for defense buffs, because it takes a lot more defense to make a champions winrate increase right now.

What evidence is there of defence buffs being the only route to increase bruiser winrates?

GigglesO1 votes

They almost never give out defense buffs.

It would be really nice to see some base stat armor/mr changed more often for champs that are supposed to be tanky.

It isn't even about increasing their winrate, all bruisers pretty much just feel the same at this point, super high damage. We however were talking about juggernauts.

YuGiHo3 votes

I like Juggernauts because of the sense of hopelessness they give your opponent when fighting them after you already secured a lead. Illaoi is a little different because the moment they reach the height of their despair (Illaoi pressed r with you and your soul) they die so you get left feeling a little hollow, but the feeling was definitely intense while it was there but now all you can do is wait for them to respawn.

Zéychin3 votes

A "true" Juggernaut has very high health, medium-high to high damage, often lack resistances and have very little mobility, conditional and counterplayable sustain, and are highly susceptible to crowd control and kiting.

Many Juggernauts effectively act as counterengage on anyone who gets to close to their carries or punish people who are severely out of position -- "Don't get in our no-no circles.", but because they tend to have lower resistances, they can be caught out and eliminated fairly quickly.

Juggernauts as a class have been struggling since preseason and are only really having success in abuse cases like Illaoi and Klepto (Mandatory note because of my name: I refuse to Klepto because it was blatantly unfair.) or when played by people with a very high number of games on these champions. Juggernauts are being out-dueled by pure tanks. The de-facto anti-tank Juggernaut Darius was getting his teeth kicked in by full-tank Maokais. That's what these changes are about. The strength of tank runes and itemization (which not all Juggernauts themselves can use effectively, if at all), and the strength of the support role and itemization, combined with everyone doing dumb levels of damage has worn away on this class. I don't think buffing the Juggernauts was the right way to do it, I think the other roles needed to be adjusted.

This is the part that is bothering me. I hardly see people saying that damage is just right, or even too low, and Riot refuses to admit that maybe they went a bit too far in power creeping the fuck out of the game.

Bone Plate is going to be pretty great :)

Edit: Also, I finally made that post we talked about before.

Sohleks4 votes

I feel like boneplate will become the new perfect timing. Major inspiration nerfs...

Everyone will use boneplate and melee will have the pleasure of a ranged champion poking it off in one auto, while having to dmg through it if they want to trade. But at least that small poke will trigger a small push.

HalcyonDweller3 votes

Hmm good point, that's certainly a concern.

Sohleks2 votes

Yeah. I said sorcery and inspiration trees were op before preseason launch. I'm not proud of that. It was obvious.

Though personally I still wasn't a big fan of the free shoes and stopwatch. I like having early shoes a lot as they buffed sorcs and tabis are still a bit op. Mobies are underrated on some heavy waveclear mids. Pros like mercs. I don't go for those so often though.

Biscuits stopwatch and things they clog your inventory which I have a habit of filling out with items like dark seals and refill potions wards and ect. It was the best thing to do in the past. So I just personally was never into those keystones. They had a bit of tradeoff and now they are nerfing ALL the power. I just am not of fan of building zhonyas or such early game or holding stopwatch for 14 mins for one use.

IMO at this point they are overnerfing inspiration and they will cease to be used. And boneplate is gonna make it happen so quick. Most characters will run boneplate if I am right.

I have been saying for a while that while the resolve tree sucks to have to pick and or isn't effective as a offspec balancing the game that none-clowns can't offspec a variety of stuff isn't right and doesn't breed choice and variety and that base defenses should go slightly up especially for lower-access fighters. However it is also true that resolve stones should be in a better place. I say maybe they should offer more than only defenses stats. Somehow precision stole tenacity and inspiration stole summ spell reduction. What else could we offer in the resolve tree but still be "resolve-y"

HalcyonDweller1 votes

That's a good point about boneplate potentially causing Resolve to replace Inspiration as many people's first choice for a secondary tree.

I'm a bit worried that boneplate will invalidate assassins actually, because they will lose out on a significant amount of damage against their target if they can't poke the boneplate off before diving onto them.

Boneplate also cucks the bruiser into tank matchup. 60 damage at level 1 gone is huge and furthering into like 120 at level 6?? its fucking stupid. its barely even helpful against ranged as they have 45 seconds to poke you for free and then have to stop attacking you for 5 seconds to not lose damage.

It fuck bruisers' romantic partners? Sorry, that just seems like an ill suited use of the term.

Well it's not supposed to be the rune that fixes bruisers. Riot is apparently testing something else on the PBE for bruisers right now.

If I remember correctly boneplate isn't a keystone. It's not supposed to be insanely powerful or offer a complete solution to bruiser problems.

Cuck actually has adapted to have multiple meaning. One of which is to essentially stop something in place in a metaphorical way. The rune (which is not a keystone) completely fucks over (I should explain that fucks over does not actually mean have sex on top of, but it actually means ruins) all bruisers ability to even try to get damage through for the first 6-7 levels of the game. Combine this with dorans shield and second wind and you literally will heal off more damage then you take. 60 damage off of a level 1-3 trade is astronomically high.

Well it's not supposed to be the rune that fixes bruisers. Riot is apparently testing something else on the PBE for bruisers right now.

I am not saying it is. I am sating that in a lane where bruisers are shit already this just makes it that much harder.

If I remember correctly boneplate isn't a keystone. It's not supposed to be insanely powerful or offer a complete solution to bruiser problems.

This rune is incredibly fucking powerful. I will edit in math in like 5 minutes. It should be max like 10-60 probably more like 7-60 to not be broken.

edit ok so here is some math using riven as I am most familiar with her damage and trading paterns. Level 1, Assuming the tank is running dorans shield and boneplate and riven legit all ins. In order to survive in lane against tanks riven has to run resolve. so she starts with 64 ad (on live I think like seventy after the patch) So lets assume she is against maokai. He has 39 armor base. which is a 29% damage reduction. so the first attack from riven will do 45.44 damage.

  1. 45.44 then her q will have the effective base damage of 15+45% ad, which is 43 damage. So we take 20 away from boneplate and then reduce the remaining 23 by 29% for 16 damage
  2. 16.33 Then the second auto with passive. (lol passive doesnt count cause riven had to take resolve and dorans to not die in lane.) so its still the 45.44 damage -20
  3. 25.44 q again 4 16.33 Then aa 5 45.44 3rd q This time we take the full 43 damage and reduce it by 29% for 30.53 6 30.53 the aa 7 45.44

then plus 22 for dorans shield and (20 plus the fight duration) so the damage done is 204.95 after the healing. Now with second wind its actually less. so thats 6+4% of your missing health. So another 12 health for a total of 192.95 give or take. add that 60 damage back on That one rune blocked 22-25% of the damage dealt. This actually gets worse as the lane goes on because riven can no longer all in. so it has to be short trades as he steps out of position. A q-aa-w-aa trade suddenly looks like shit as roughly 50% of your damage disapears due to this one rune. It is fucking powerful.

Maokai has 630 health at level 1. As riven you have to all in him 3 times at level 1 in order to kill him. And lets assume that he hits you back with one bramble smash during that level 1 trade. I am not gonna do the math here but he probably outtrades you based on the bramble smash. Aftershock and the 120 bonus armor from ccing you. Plus minions. Thats you using rivens strongest point in the lane against a tank and losing (arguably) because of this stupid ass rune system. No wonder riots looking at breaking the entire fucking class in order to make them even viable.

GigglesO2 votes

So I'm gonna just disagree flat out here, feel free to downvote...

Removing 120 damage from something that kills you by 120% isn't going to do anything.

Lane trades aren't going to be so much different as long as you aren't doing 1 poke attacks exactly every 45 seconds.

I just don't see it being as good as even scorch... not just that but I have to give up my tower pushing with demolish to take it.

Red Wreckage2 votes

so ur champ is doing 192 damage at level 1 to a tank through bone plating and stuff, with not electrocute but with resolve keystones....

nice. so weak. need buffs.
