There's something that no one ever mentions about Rengar.

Of course we all know Rengar, the knife cat who turns your ranked game into a black and white old movie if he gets feed. Everyone talked about his ult who is still a pain to dealt with, his new q, his new w, the old triple q and his old ult and so on.

But if there's one thing that I see is that NOBODY never mentions anything about... it is his passif.

Oh sorry, I should say his passiVES.

Yes I know this change was made since season 4 or something, but this is something that I realized recently.

Look, I'm no champion designer by any means, but I'm pretty sure any god damn champions with 3 fucking passifs would be busted or overloaded or both.

I mean, I already hate a little bit Yasuo for having 2 passifs but Rengar has:

His brush jump

His ferocity

And the bonetooh necklace

Of course this is far from being the only thing aggravating about him, but it's kinda strange and unfair in a way.

Generally secondary resource bars aren't counted as passives by themselves. Otherwise almost every champion has an extra passive. It is called mana and you regen it over time or when in the fountain. When you have a certain amount of mana and your abilities are off CD you can cast them by expending mana.

Really it is champions like garen and katarina that are the basis for resource management. Every champion with mana or ferocity/rage/whatever has a second passive tagged on. Mana is pretty self explanatory though so they don't need to explain how it works and since the resource isn't tied to any specific ability they have to explain it in the passive.

Huh I guess I was wrong but I find it strange that ferocity is not a part of his passif. Especially a mechanic that can be game changing. I get it for manaless champions like Riven, Garen and Katarina but still.

But in that case, does that mean that Renekton has no passif at all? He only has the fury mentionned in his passif.

It is... tricky. Secondary resource bars both are and aren't passives. At their core they aren't really they are just secondary resources. That being said those secondary resources are still balanced around being passives in terms of champion power. I would say the resource bars themselves aren't, however both Renekton's and Rengar's ability to enhance their abilities is. So the resource bar itself isn't a passive, but the abilities is grants are.

There are some differences though. I would say Renekton does have a real passive because it is a case of "when you have X fury drain some to enhance your next ability." Rengar's isn't something I would tack onto his passive though. Rather each of his abilities is two abilities but the second set can only be accessed when he has a full bar. I wouldn't count that as part of his passive because it is the abilities themselves and the CD's are completely separate unlike Renekton's. The passive is just the clearest place to put it so you don't have to explain how it works on all 3 of his basic abilities.

It is complicated and there is no clear line. In general though I don't count resource bars as passives because in the end they are resource bars, not abilities or the like. The thing about resource bars is that they break the general mold of manaless/mana. When they do that they have to be explained and the only way to do that is to write it on the passive. It is kinda hard to apply comparisons to things that are designed to be different.

Ferocity isn't a passive. His bush leaps and bonetooth are his identity. I agree the new bonetooth is too "snowbally" and shouldn't give any damage.
