Kog is unpopular because he lacks agency
Not because he's immobile.
There are other
immobile
Marksmen that see a ton of play. These guys both have roots and situational movespeed buffs. They both have super long range skillshots with potent CC attached to help them make picks from a safe distance. They both have high-impact Ults that are great for polishing off champions. They both have amazing wave-clear to help control the pacing of the early game.
And Kog?
Well.
Since Kog's Ult was remade, he really doesn't have a way to aggressively poke anymore. He's slow and completely without any form of movespeed buff or moveblock skill. Aside from a bushwhack or nailing someone over a wall, Kog has no way of initiating combat. He's wholly reactionary, relying on a team mate to open the fight or the enemy to mess up.
Now, having a reactionary champ isn't necessarily bad. But by and large, champs who can't pull of slick looking plays or at the very least get aggressive when they need to aren't ever going to be popular.
It leaves me to wonder, who would Kog with some kind of aggressive play-making tool look like? The only thing I can really think of is turning his E into a damageless, pure utility skill that slows foes and speeds up Kog. But would that even be a good thing? Is Kog better off being a turret and leaving all the dashing about to everyone else?
What do you guys think about Kog? Why do you (or don't you) enjoy him as a champion?
