Since we're bringing back old items

Why not bring back Deathfire Grasp? https://i.imgur.com/AJf7vpu.png

I know I know, they're bringing back old items which they originally replace with the support item actives. But it would still be nice to see this item back in the game, just for old times sake. It'd just be nice to have.

And potentially watch someone explode in a glorious way again.

Edit: There is constant replies of not needing it back because we have item 3907 item 3151 item 3001 and item 3285 , which were suppose to be the replacements for the item, and there for we do not need DFG.

While yes, the end result of both sets of items are the same, the path leading to the is completely different, and is more efficient for DFG. Hell, if they were to just tune everything down by an 11 on DFG, that way it fits better with everything I'd love that. I personally just want to see DFG itself back in the game, and not be a knock off version someone threw together and put a label on saying it's the exact same.

Deathfire was originally meant to help mages burst down tanks, but was instead use to secure kills on squishies and was remade into item 3151 item 3907 is the closest thing we'll get to it.

Why bring back an item that caused tons of issues and caused champions to be nerfed because of their abuse of it? Why not bring back feral flare or atma's or infinite stacking tiamats while we are at it.

You do realize that is more or less what Spellbinder is? The mechanics are slightly different, but in a build mid - late game, Spellbinder more or less adds temporary AP equal to the AP damage boost on Deathfire. And Liandra's picked up the part that increases Magic damage, as did Abyssal Mask. Those two passives didn't exist in that incarnation.

If you have item 3907 item 3151 item 3001 , you more or less have a Deathfire on top of what used to exist.

If you add in a item 3285 you technically have Deathfire grasp ++

Spellbinder isn't a targeted, instant 20% Max HP nuke that amped all further magic damage by 30% for 10 4 seconds, though :(

Edit: Typed an extra 6 seconds, oops.

It was actually 15% max HP and 20% more magic damage.

Pokemonred2001 votes

Hmm. Must have been thinking of Blackfire Torch then, which was 20% Max HP over 4 seconds with the same damage amp. I played a lot of Twisted Treeline in the past.

AmenPerson1 votes

Probably. And even then, Blackfire Torch was DOT, while DFG was instant.

Technically early on, it was 15% max HP + 5% per 100 AP. A 1000 AP build would = 65% Max HP.

The only thing that Spellbinder and DFG have in common are they both use a Needlessly Large Rod.

4 seconds

Boosts AP by about 15% of what's accessible. Actually has a lower cooldown that DFG.

Liandra's has the doom mod, and Luden's was put in the game originally to replace it.

Just because the abilities are reshuffled doesn't mean they aren't there.

Riot joked about it about a week before the AP item update in a patch chat as I recall. I hoped that was a sign that we'll see it again, but alas, we did not :(

Balance > "just for old times sake"

AmenPerson1 votes

It's painful for me to say but that's really implying this game has any balance at all right now.

Then let's not make things worse, shall we?

No, just no.

DFG is a horribly designed item, that's why. It just says "Mages deal more damage, no questions asked." It was a required purchase for 85% of Mages plus some. A toned down version would just become a bad item that isn't purchased.

i just want dfg readded so the pentakill songs are complete

I could see it come back with a drasticly different effect. Maybe something along the lines of 'Mark a target for X seconds. If target dies durring the mark they explode for X % max HP to all targets within X range.'

Not quite the same but a bit more fair the play against.
