You probably meant
, for Grievous Wound. But actually, you don't need the full item. You can just buy
for cheap (800 g) versus the full item's 2700 g.
And ignite may be enough by itself, depending on the match-up.
Edit: I should have explained why I suggest not buying the full item. Most melee top are not carries and don't want to go for such an offensive and situational item as a Mortal Reminder. They prefer to build 1 or 2 generalist offense items and then defensive items. So you can buy the cheap component that counters your lane opponent for the early/mid game. But then when you are grouped with your team, someone else should have a source for Grievous Wound and you can sell back the component and replace it by an item that actually fit in your build.
Also, these tips work against Mundo too.

Well, if you really meant Lord Dominik, I disagree. What toplaner would actually want a Lord Dominik in his full build?

Always take ignite, NEVER fight him on low health because his bite does more damage the lower the health you are. If you don't know weither he has his passive or not you can click him and if he doesn't a little picture of a blue bear then he has his passive up. Save ignite just to stop his passive unless you absolutely need it to kill someone else. He will win most 1v1 so just farm and wait for a gank. Don't be afraid to lose cs if he poses too much of a threat at the time, just try and use your spells to get some of the cs.
Those are good advices.
I'll add a few precisions:
I disagree that Voli will win most 1v1. Of course, it depends on the match-up, but with ignite, it is quite possible to kill him solo.
Calculations about ignite: Passive heals for 30%MaxHealth over 6 seconds, so 5% per second. Ignite debuffs self-healing by 40% for 5 seconds, so if you ignite him during his passive, you deprive him of 0.4 x 5 x 0.05 = 10%MaxHealth. It's better to take 10% of his max health now, and have an actual chance to win the fight without ignite later, than to let him heal, because then he will win by too large of a margin for Ignite to make a difference.
Edit: This tip also works against Mundo's ult, to some extent, but contrary to Volibear, it's not ALWAYS best to ignite him when he ults if you don't want to kill him now, because the % per second is smaller and the duration longer, so you don't deprive him of so much health (only 7% for a level 1 ult).
From a volibear main, you need an escape heavy champ, if you take something without a good escape a good Volibear is going to discreetly increase his wave size then when you go up to farm he'll flip you into it and use E to finish off your last few minions and force you to take god damn 300 dmg from ranged minions and proceed to bite you once if you have to walk while slowed by his E
Any idea how to face him when he picks into me? Earlier i was playing Xin against him top, and I got demolished. It felt like either i get 1 cs and lose 75% of my hp, or wait under tower, and then get tower dove once his passive comes up
with xin in particular dont ever use your E to engage on him rather walk up to him and get an auto or two of then before he bites try to use your E on a melee minion behind you to put some distance between the fight and walk out, he will attack and most voli's will make a small attempt to chase unless they're smart and soak some minion damage. tower diving to, wait for him to take turret aggro the E to a minion on the opposite side of the tower, he will have to run all the way around it and the turret until he has more than 3k hp will out dmg his passive if he cant catch you.
I can probably give some advice on most champs for him since i know what to look out for while playing him
Kite, don't fight when he ults.
Advice from a long time volibear player here; go into him hard and fast as early as you can. If you drop to 1/3 health during a trade, you better be able to get away fast or be prepared to be lunch. Stick and move is your best option. Don't all-in unless you have all your bells and whistles off cooldown and hit him with everything you have. Once he hit 6, beware thunderclaws and stay away from him and your own minions or you'll catch some of the lightning, too.
Hope that this helped you at all :) voli is a hard laner to face i like voli top allot (this is one of my games > http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2034125953/226741718?tab=overview) there are most likly many more but these are the ones i can think of off the top of my head![]()
