What is the reason behind the hard reset at new season?

This is not a rant. But i would love to know why with every season you have to start form scratch like anything you've done was nullified.

Example: This season i finished plat 5 with a high gold mmr - i won 8 out of 10 placement matches (yes read that well), but i was rolled back to silver 2.

Then i ahve few questions.

  1. Why is this needed?
  2. I'm okay with starting a bit lower since it's a new season, but the frustration fo this is quite unbearable
  3. What do the placement matches accomplish if i get rolled back 7 division when i won 80% of them?

Basically why cannot we start nearish were we were isntead of having all of this?

I'd love to knwo why because i cannot find a reliable reason for this.

That said i managed to return gold 1 at the moment so i'm slowly making it back but.... quite unfair

  1. Becuase challenger is a goal and to be the first to reach that and stay there needs to be reset every season.
  2. D5 to challenger 1 are all pushed down into plat at the start of a season to get a fair starting place for people. This in turn pushes everyone down a couple. It's normal for plat to be gold, gold silver etc..
  3. These just raise and lower your mmr by a little. It's very uncommon to be placed where you were left off in higher Elos becuase you are not that elo. Gold is where high plats are placed, you were low plat.

If gold players get placed in gold while plat players get placed there then they will just get shit on. You might of been placed s2 but you played against g1 and other p5s at that rank.

Yes i know what you mean. Though I am not as high ranked as you I had the same thing happen to me last season. 2 season ago I finished at Silver 3, close to Silver 2 promo series. Then I went 7-3 in my placement games last season and was put in Bronze 4. its like you have to go 10-0 just to stay in your same class.

Im not sure, never really been an issue for me. Ended last season Gold 5, seeding put me in Silver 5 after going 5-5, was back in Gold 5 in under 100 games so I don't usually mind the resets

I think it's fine... And this is the first time I experienced the soft reset, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. The system is just trying to put you into the league/division that your mmr is in, and to avoid everyone playing with people that were way higher than themselves they lowered/heightened the mmr a little extra towards the average player.

Probably can't praise the system too much though, as I got a very favorable placement (same as last year with 8/10)...
