Why doesn't your normals MMR go by your ranked MMR?

For some reason despite being diamond last season and plat 2 so far this season in normals I'm always matched with silvers. Is there any way to reset your elo in normals? This is awful for practicing new champions because the players at this elo just don't play as well as my opponents in ranked. Would be nice if normal MMR reset with our ranked MMR every season.

For a few reasons. Few people of high MMR play normals, so you'd have to wait for ages before other plat+ players are on. Most people who play ranked a lot and then go to normals do so for two main reasons. a) To play with friends esp. low level friends which makes matchmaking difficult and would ruin the game for the lower level players on your own team if the system used your ranked MMR. b) To try new things. You're generally much worse when you are trying new things so you don't want to be matched with people around the same skill level as you would in ranked -- Otherwise you'd just play ranked. Apparently (i'm saying this from memory of a previous Rioter post so take it with a grain of salt because I don't have the link nor the data) most people who play normals to try new things instead of ranked only really want to do a really basic check of what their skills and abilities do.

That makes sense actually. IE just because you got diamond with vayne, it doesn't mean you're gonna be diamond level with say, Darius top lane.

The funny thing is that this is exactly the opposite to my situation. I mostly play normals and I play Diana almost every game. I can't really play other champs than Diana in normals, because my mmr is too good and I don't want to play other champs in ranked, because I want to win.
