Tired of Apologizing: Securing a Kill(and saving your life) is Not KS

I have moved into Supporting almost full time recently, and realize that I apologize every time I secure a kill. Before I knew what I was doing(P.S. I'm still terrible), I had no idea Supports were only supposed to passively siphon off money to allow the carries to carry. And I'm sure there are lots of Supports who don't understand this still. But that leaves us three camps:

  1. Supports who are really new and like the role of healing, protecting, and controlling, but don't get exactly how to Support
  2. Supports who really get it, and know when grabbing a kill is saving your ass.
  3. Supports who are really awful, and purposefully KS

In my experience, there are very few of #3, and you can always identify them. They are toxic and abusive, and do not play properly as a support from square 1.

You can also tell #1 because their items are bad and they don't play properly either. Sometimes they are toxic, but whatevs.

But if I spend the first 20 mins of the game doing nothing but help my ADC CS, feed them kills, feed the team kills, and then grab a kill? Yah, it's because I just watched you blow all your CD, or I know you're out of range/position for your next ability, I just blew all of my CD trying to save you from a series of very bad decisions on your part, and want to secure a kill and an assist for you rather than giving their team a kill and shutdown/killstreak gold. Or sometimes people lag and accidentally drop an auto on a redlined enemy. So don't tilt and rage and quit because you 'lost' ONE kill that you were never going to get. I can promise you we aren't going to lose the game because of it.

A good support knows when to take the kill. If you can't see that, there's no Support on Earth that can help you.

As a someone who's played support since S4, I recall using my ult as Thresh. My team got mad at me because the enemy ran into it at low health, and I ended up getting a triple. Well, what can you do? :p

haha I "stole" a pentakill from our Katarina once trying to slow the last enemy for her but she jumped on the enemy before they ran into my wall for the slow so by the time they got to my wall they were low health and my ult killed them.

Felt bad not going to lie.

You shouldn't! We are a part of the team, and all have the same goal. Sometimes crazy things happen, sometimes you have to make a judgement call to better the team. 40s of life for your teammate vs 40s of death for the enemy is a really huge swing in your favor, vs. 300 gold. Who knows what might have happened had you not finished them?

If it makes you feel better, I don't care who's getting the kill unless they blow all their summoners and long-CD ult to kill someone who was already going to die. A kill is a kill, and that's one step towards victory.

But I've been playing since Season 1. Things change.

as an Alistar main for season6 i'v had my passive steal plenty of kills...the only adc's that get mad are the bad ones. the good ones are like "whatever man we wouldn't have had a kill if it weren't for you in the first place". so i shrug it off and keep Moo'vin.

Amen! Support 4 life!

I'm fairly sure this is not an issue as much as people say it is. I haven't had people be upset about me getting kills as a Support in years.

Happens pretty much any time I get a kill, which is pretty rare.
