What is the long term fix to the rank changes?

So we're about halfway through season 9. I'm pretty sure the consensus is that this is the single worst season of ranked in League history. Which is pretty amazing because everyone said that about season 8. You guys really proved us all wrong.

I'm not going to go into the details of my own experience this season. It's pretty bad for me since I'm a Morgana OTP and Riot decided to "bless" me with this rework. RIP my climb.

Anyway, let's just get to hard facts:

Season 8 Platinum V was 95th percentile.

Season 9 Platinum IV is 89th percentile.

There are clearly twice as many people in platinum+ as any other season.

Either the player base just has twice as many "good" players or you fucked up. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe everyone in the community started watching Hashshinshin and they're just so damn good now.

Clearly the ladder needs reset in its entirety or something else needs to be done to fix this issue. Games just do not feel competitive at all.

Let me take a second to discuss gold. I've had many gold accounts over the years. Every season I'd climb to gold for the rewards and stop.
Gold was an interesting elo. The players were generally chill. Their mechanics were okay. It felt like how the game was meant to be played. You weren't with feeders. You weren't with ragers. People were "okay" at the game.

Gold this season is a shit hole unlike any shit hole I've ever seen in this game. I could only compare it to silver IV in previous seasons. It is full of people who do not shut the fuck up. They hard int like they're on a mission. They have literally no idea how to play their champions and roles. It is a completely different elo entirely.

Plat is like plat from any other season: loud and annoying. The difference is that in previous seasons the players were actually good mechanically. This season there's always a guy going 0/20. It's mind blowing.

I think my favorite example of how this season has failed is my friend.

He was a diamond II shaco player in season 8. He he had a 63% win rate. He ended the season around D3 or D4.

Want to know his rank this season? It's Platinum II and he has a 24% win rate as Shaco. His ranked win rate over 80 games is 35%.

I guess he suddenly just forgot how to play the game huh? Nope. If you check this guy's match history or play with him you'd see that he quite often goes like 27/3/15 and loses.

I played a game with him a month or two ago. He 1v3d the enemy team and killed two people completely by himself as Shaco. The rest of our team lost 4v3. HARD. We had diamond players on our team who were so bad it was unbelievable.

How bad were they? Well, what would you say about a bot lane that leaves bot lane permanently at 7 minutes in and just decides to not defend their tower for the rest of the game? They were both diamond IV players. They just decided to abandon bot tower and give the enemy first tower so they could sit mid. They weren't losing bot. They weren't behind bot. They just left the bot tower to die. It's like they've never even played League before.

This season is ABSOLUTELY INSANE.

I have to give credit where credit is due. If you climbed to masters or w/e this season without duo abusing and you slogged through the trolls and incorrectly ranked players with a positive attitude then you have my respect. That's some amazing mental. But many of us just can't stand this season.

So what is the long term fix here? The ladder is ruined for the rest of season 9 most likely. How do we know 10 is going to be better?
