Are ADC's getting unduly punished by autofill?

Since the recent change to having autofill always on, I have observed a noticeable uptick in bad or completely dysfunctional supports. It seems that a higher than normal percentage of players that get autofilled into the support role don't understand their itemization or responsibilities, creating a nightmare scenario for the poor ADC who is paired with them. This creates a negative game experience for the entire team, as the ADC will be unable to do their job in lane, making it difficult to transition into the late game power player that the team needs. This can also lead to team infighting and griefing, as fingers get pointed trying to find the reason the team is losing. I am a fairly low ELO player, kicking around silver since I started playing almost a year ago, so I can't say for sure if this is an issue at higher ELOs or if my experience is even abnormal at even my own ELO. Is this a persistent problem? If so, what can be done to fix it? Should autofill just be turned off at lower ELOs? Is there an alternative fix?

Sounds like the ADC that learns to be self sufficient will climb fast.

Always.

Also, whatever laning phase Marksmen needs Supports for is non-existent (I say as a Support player). Marksmen's early game is much worse compared to other classes, though some champions (Sejuani) are horrible. Marksmen do not really need supporting champions.

this isn't as much of an issue at higher ELO since most of them atleast understand the fundamentals of all roles and have a few champs they play to a decent degree there. Where as in low ELO its more common for someone to be thrown into a role they don't play or have no interest in playing. Autofill isn't really necessary in low ELO since i believe Bronze and Silver make about 50% of the player base (i could be wrong). I don't mind autofill personally in Normals. i'll play w/e. i'll just practice something there. but i think autofill is procing too quickly. i could sit in queue for 2.5 mins and get thrown Mid or sit there for 5 mins and get a role i actually wanted to practice. i think Autofill shouldn't proc as quickly as it does and it would be fine

I really don't understand the support hate. Its almost like they havent even attempted it in the last year. Playing an AP support nowadays is like playing an AP mid where you don't have to worry about csing anymore. You just harass and kill people all game. Its nothing to pick an AP mage like Zyra/Brand/Morg/Veigar/Lux/whatever and end up doing more damage than anyone in the game; WITH a sightstone item. Also, spelltheif, and those that can abuse it, is just crazy for gold generation. I mean I main adc. But, on a whim sometimes, I put support secondary to play around. I generally always get full builds, lots of kills, and do the most damage in the game. I mean I could link like 5-6 games right now where I was either top in dmg or 2nd all from the support position.

Now, I dont want to main it all the time. I understand that. But I can't see getting bent out of shape for that 1 or 2 random autofills you had to deal with in 50 games. Just pick an AP support and crush the lane/game. I honestly probably could make a Morg support main account and play the hell out of that.

All I can guess, is they haven't actually PLAYED support in so long they think its still the dark ages as far as gold generation, etc. And they probably pick tank supports instead of AP supports. You could honestly argue that maybe some AP mages/supports/gold generation is TOO strong, yet people would rather troll and throw games because they got placed there 1 time in 50 games. I
