Vision, or lack thereof

Most of this is me ranting about how shitty of an item (Ruby) Sightstone is and how there is a lack of warding by non-support roles. Skip to the bottom if you just want to see my suggestions.

Sightstone gives 150 health and 4 ward charges, theoretically that puts 3 wards on the map, that should be able to be replaced shortly after they disappear. Ruby Sightstone gives 400 health and 5 ward charges, but you can still only have 3 wards on the map, so at best it increases the likely hood of having all 3 wards out at once. Assuming no one else on your team has a Sight stone your team should have 5-7 wards on the map at anyone time plus a pink or two if you have a really good team. (Excluding the enemy team destroying wards) What I see in 80-90% of my games is a mid and top placing 3-4 wards each in a 30-40 minute game. That means that there is significantly less than 5-7 wards at any one time. It takes 4 wards to watch river properly which means there are at best 1-3 wards in either jungle. That seems like there is a lot of vision lacking.

Considering the importance of warding, the lack of warding by (most) non-support players, the absolutely abysmal health stats of the current vision item, and its practically mandatory purchase by all supports. It seems something needs to be done.

TL;DR My two suggestions:

  1. remove Ruby Sightstone and add other items with decent stats that a mid or top might consider buying
  2. remove both items and rework the current trinket system to have a purchasable upgrade that has charges(people might actually use the blue orb then)

I really like Ruby Sightstone and I feel the HP it provides is a decent amount. My suggestion would be to give Sightstone and Ruby Sightstone a unique passive that increases your Stealth Ward limit, with the latter further increasing it, and/or increasing Vision Ward limit.

I'm glad that it does give health but 400 health as the only stats from an item slot especially late game feels really lacking (at least to me). While I do like the idea of being able to place more wards, that is still leaving the team more or less reliant on the support for wards, which I want to get away from, and I think others do too.

I understand that, and after some further consideration, having the trinkets have charges has merit. I just wonder if Riot has considered something like that in the past, it seems like such a simple solution... it must have come up internally at Riot at some point...

Also, I think the only way to make the blue trinket (charges or no) more useful would be to make the duration longer than 2.5s. Would 10s really be OP? I don't think so. Same goes for Clairvoyance.

I might give it a slight number buff up to say 3-4 seconds of vision and if an enemy was spotted you gain 3 seconds of sight after they leave the orb's vision. That would reward you for good placement while not directly giving a lot of vision for a long time. Also if they adopted the charge system, can you image 10 seconds of perfect vision of the enemy jungle while you dragon or baron.

PLease....a lot has changed since they implemented this warding system. The support role, before the change was literally only to ward because there was no limits. So much better now except for the fact that invisible champs are harder to play against

Yes it is "better", but that doesn't mean it is good. In well over 50% of my games support is the only one who places more than 3-4 wards in 30-40 minute games. Everyone should be placing closer to 6-8 wards in a game that long. With either of the changes (unless people purposefully choose not to ward) there should be around 12-16 per placed per player.

I sort of agree with this but I'm all so the type of player that will get sightstone my self right now if i play top or in the jungle.

I'll also get Sightstone in the jungle, regardless of who I'm playing. It really helps team morale and the support can breathe a little easier.
