Why was darius given a heal?

Honest question, I can not find an explanation for the heal.

It seems to clash with his theme and seems extremely strong.

So why does he have it?

Edit:

The general consensus seems to be that it was to make up for how much damage he lost along with a way to keep him in line with other juggernaut types.

I understand this and I don't have much of a problem with his current power level. But I was unclear in my original question, Why a heal instead of something else?

In my mind a heal clashes with his theme, I would have expected something like either

  • enemies are intimidated during the q and deal x% reduced damage
  • or crippling blow reduces the targets damage by x%(+y% per stack of bleed)

Because he needed a way to survive in fights due to how easy it is to kite him.

To make him fit with the idea of a juggernaut. A walking fortress that hits like a freight train and has the durability of reinforced steel.

Morde has his Iron Man shield and spellvamp Skarner has his shield Garen has bonus resistances and his healing passive Without the heal, Darius is just an ordinary bruiser with no mobility, which is why he fell off like an anchor post laning phase before the rework.

I guess, Heal just doesn't fit his theme at all though. I wish they had come up with something more interesting

because his dmg was nerfed across the board with the delay on this Q they had to throw in heal. Personally I learned to work with it but ill gladly change the Q to the way it was without the heal but high dmg AND NO DELAY

His old kit does not have a single bit of lane sustain, so a heal on his Q seems ideal. But hopefully not make it too strong doe.

I try to see it as him "thriving in battle". Kind of like Fiora's ult heal.

Think of it as a moral boost that makes you fight better in the form of numbers. Darius' is just a more selfish.

I feel like something along the lines of taking x% less damage during the q animation because it "intimidates his foes" would fit his theme better and still give him some survive-ability.
