Love how people cry about the new mastery system offering less "unique" choises

... while before like 99% of all mastery pages looked mostly the same anyway, except from some special snowflake pages, that were in the end, not as good as the pro-pages everyone copied anyway.

The whole point of the new masteries is to have fewer but more impactful talents as opposed to loads of irrelevant and unnoticeable stats. Better point efficiency and less fannying around min-maxing. Plus,

not as good as the pro-pages everyone copied anyway.

^ Basically. Everyones pages were all the same in the first place so why does it matter.

Yeah that's something I don't understand people complaining about. Most mastery pages were pretty much the same anyway

Well now you can only choose 6 out of 13 masteries per tree or however thats called. So yeah.. I like them tho lol.

The main problem I have with it is, it is making me choose between two masteries. Those are the only two options I have if I wish to go further in that line. So if I wanted to take both of them, I could not. Whereas with the old masteries I could take those two masteries if I wanted and there were more options for spec'ing your points.

Now I am not complaining about the effectiveness of the new masteries. I think that the new keystone, once they are fine tuned, will have a huge impact on your champion. I felt I had more control over what I wanted to spend my points on with the old masteries.

If Riot was to re-make the new masteries and allow for different options, like 30/0/0 or however you so choose. I think in some cases that could give champions with a weaker early games more beneficial in the beginning. Instead of an Akali farming by her turret until lvl 6, or whatever champ faces new Graves in mid lane (JK).

I'll agree with you on the choice progression part. It's actually why I don't like the ferocity tree. I have never liked double edged sword and feast doesn't really appeal to me.

Disagree. I would customize my mastery pages for specific roles and champs and with the new mastery tree it makes it very difficult to find a swim lane that I'm happy with for certain champions.

Particularly mage supports don't have an easy time picking up the trees.

Additionally when you have to pick between the two choices there are times where one of the two choices is literally almost useless to the goal of the champ and role you're trying to define (which was the whole point of this keystone mastery idea: role customization).

More and varied choices makes for a much more interesting customization of champs. As one comment said the fact that you can't put points into both of the "mid" choices is annoying too.

The idea of keystone mastery isn't a bad one but how you get to those choices has been executed very poorly from a design perspective. More options always makes for better customization period.

Riot please either a) revert back to the old mastery system or b) add more choices back in as well as being able to put points in multiple sections of each tree (Ferocity, Cunning and whatever the other name was). You're killing certain niche champ roles such as mage supports.

As a final note assassins and adc's are dominating the game now in my opinion. I've played a handful of games (mostly supports and jungles) and once one of these high damage types gets ahead they just snowball so fast that it's game over before it ever gets going.

Basically this. Before the new masteries, every time I was trying a new champ or something I would immediately open up a guide and read up the masteries, because I knew that there was the one, min-maxed optimal way and anything other than that was inferior. I didn't want to try experimenting with the masteries themselves because there were just too many, and at least a couple were noobtraps, so I just stuck with what the guides said. With the new masteries offering clear-cut choices, for the first time ever I actually customised a mastery page myself. I went through the options, thought of what I wanted for GP, and I knew that my choices would work. It felt great.

Wrong. The old masteries had a lot of "choices" but half of them were noobtraps, and there were very specific combinations that worked better than anything else. Pretty much the only options you had were -

21 from one of the trees, 9 from the other in a specific combination. 30 Offensive. The occasional but very rare 27-0-3 for the MS from Utility.

Everything else was virtually inexistent.

That is how I had my Shaco page

Doesn't change the fact that it was a rarity.

The new masteries got rid of a problem that no one really talked about in which, mage poke supports weren't able to get the damage boosts in the 1st tree because they just couldn't pass up the utility tree for MS CDR Gold etc. Now they can get support helping masteries along with damage.

I have seen almost everyone take different masteries -- and Riot did say they will expand on it in the future -- but I have been nagging on Riot about making the game more simple like back in season 1 since that is what made League grew and was fun, so a simpler mastery page set up does help accomplish and go back to league's roots of success

Pretty much, the most changes I did was to change Defenses' masteries from physical to magical if the enemy had more AP and I happened to be using a 9/21/0 setup...And that's if I remembered to.

My sole issue with the new Masteries is that I can't put all 30 points into a single tree.

People who copy/pasted pro pages don't understand their champs and don't perform well typically. I had 20 pages with different setups depending on Tanky/Bursty/Sustain builds, Jungle/lane builds, and several pages for specific champions who made exceptional use of the more unusual masteries.

Now theres no reason for anyone to have more than 9 pages, one for each keystone.

I have to go back to looking for decent mastery setups for AP champs now summoner 3 bb
