Ok, Boots of Swiftness are now a total joke...

Raoul··270 votes·11,216 views

Right now they only give 10 more Movement speed than other boots.

Why should anyone get them over Mercury Treads now? Just remove them or rework them already, because with the last barrage of nerfs, they just became a noob trap.

It gives slow reduction. Slow reduction is very powerful. It's faster for me to show you the number of champions in the game that DON'T have a slow in their kit: Alistar Amumu Annie AurelionSol Blitzcrank Brand Draven Elise Evelynn Ezreal Garen Hecarim Jax Kassadin Katarina Kennen Lucian Malzahar MasterYi Mordekaiser Nidalee Pantheon Poppy Renekton Riven Ryze Shyvana Sivir Syndra Taric Udyr Veigar Vladimir Warwick MonkeyKing Yasuo Ziggs Zyra

Everyone else has a slow. Boots of Swiftness are good. (I'm not even counting how champs like Aurelion Sol and Morde always build Rylai's either)

TheTarians4 votes

Both Draven and Vlad have slows in their kits. Vlad's pool thingy and Draven's axe throw that knocks you aside.

EndlessSorcerer72 votes

The list is even shorter than that.

The following champions you listed above do have slows in their kit:

  • Aurelion Sol's R
  • Evelynn's R
  • Vladimir's E and W
  • Draven's E
  • Poppy's Q,
  • Syndra's W
  • Ziggs' E
  • Kassadin's E
  • Zyra's Vine Lashers
Faceroll Tactics20 votes

And Elise, Nidalee, Malzahar, and Kennen are not uncommon to have item 3116 in their builds

THE YETII RIDER had mentioned that he was ignoring champions who had Rylai's Crystal Scepter as a core(-ish) item, so I didn't bother bringing it up.

Right. So that's why Boots of Swiftness are good. There's only about 30 champions in the game that actually don't have slows. And you're facing 5 champions, some with multiple slows or slows on short cooldowns.

Merc Treads makes the slows shorter, but Swiftness matters the moment that they hit you.

EDIT: Also brand's passive Ult has a short slow now :o

Brand's passive doesn't have a slow, but his ultimate does.

What's the difference between slow resist and tenacity though? Swiftness has 25% slow resist while Mercury has 30% tenacity, which also applies to stuns and such on top of slows.

SaltyKracka3 votes

Tenacity reduces duration, resist reduces effectiveness. Resist is far more powerful when it comes to slows, which are applied often and repeatedly.

Blackstone011 votes

Ah, so slow resist would reduce the slow % by 25%?

SaltyKracka3 votes

25% of the slow percent, IIRC, but yes.

Tenacity is duration, resist is potency.

ex: let's say you get hit by a 70% slow for 2 seconds.

Merc Treads makes that a 70% slow for 1.4 seconds.

Boots of Swiftness makes it a 45% slow for 2 seconds.

XeroKimo17 votes

Correction, Boots of swiftness makes it 52.5%, it doesn't subtract from the percentage it's multiplicative, tho the percent reduction is additive tho which is why you can get 100% slow reduction with storm raiders + swiftness

Gosh Darn7 votes

Merc tread's is 300g more for 35% tenacity and 25 MR soo....

Evelynn has a slow.

Riot:

"We're nerfing item 3009 because they outshine the other boots."

"We're buffing item 3006 because not even adcs use them." (what?)

"We're buffing item 3047 because they suck right now and item 3111 are only used situationally against mages."

So wtf are people wearing right now in the rift Crocks lmaoRenekton ?

Pyrodinium20 votes

Everyone was defaulting to item 3009 .

Tyaldan5 votes

I was defaulting to swifties because with the suckerpunch nerf to merc treads a few patches ago there was literally no point to getting mercs over swifties, unless you needed mr. So was everyone else. And then everyone realized not being slowed was better then shorter duration in 95% of the cases, and stuck with it when they buffed merc treads again. They should add another elixer like ironskin that does the effect of swify boots, or maybe add that effect too ironskin.

SnowFall30 votes

Remove them and buff other tier 2 boots speed from 45 to 50 Buff item 3117 in-combat speed from 25 to 45

Yvaelle1 votes

^ This.

Alternately - I would be interested in seeing fancier boots in the game. Examples:

Heels of the Phantom Dancer

  • Boots of Swiftness + Zeal = Phantom Dancer with extra Movement Speed.

Sunfire Slippers

  • Ninja Tabi + Chain Vest + Bami's Cinder = Sunfire Cape with extra movement speed and reduced auto attacks.

I dunno, that would be weird too I guess.

Boots are just a weird item in general in League. Maybe eliminate boots entirely and everyone gains movement speed per level.

Yeah, but then Cassiopeia will need a new passive, and we all know how good a job Riot's done with that for every Cass rework so far.

DREADN0UGHT5 votes

Valkrin said something about them yesterday. He thinks item 3047 and item 3111 will now be the predominant buys because of the nerfs on item 3009 and the buffs on item 3111 and item 3047

Rockman4 votes

10 speed is alot in combat wtf are you smoking

DREADN0UGHT4 votes

10 flat MS is nothing, in or out of combat. It is only noticeable if you get a fuckton of % MS from other items/masteries/runes.

They are ok only vs Ashe

or anyone with item 3116

Pretty much every champion has at least one slow in their kits. Unless they specifically pick a no-slow comp (in which case, why?), the enemy team will probably have a slow.

AninLegions7773 votes

I really hate Meta. I was one of the few people who got BoS over BoM cos I knew it in-combat MS mattered a lot. Lowkey won me a lot of games. Now it's getting nerfed cos people are abusing it. I fcking hate this.

SaltyKracka7 votes

So it's getting nerfed for exactly the reason that you bought it?

Quelle horreur!

AninLegions7771 votes

I didn't abuse it. Tbh it was what I preferred. Some people can deal with low in-combat MS but I can't. And I was't swayed by pro builds so it was my choice. Now it's meta and sees nerfs when it was working as intended for years.

SaltyKracka7 votes

It was strong, so you bought it. It was strong, so other people bought it. It was strong, so they nerfed it.

AninLegions7771 votes

No. They nerfed it because it was problematic on certain champions. Let's take the worst abuser right now, lucian. He has a dash and thanks to the Korean build (which was what I was building on release Lucian btw. Quite an outdated build), he has MS from BC and MS from ghostblade. Allowing him to reach the higher 500s of MS which is a tad bit too much for an ADC. Boots of swiftness was great on people who lacked sufficient MS from ALL sources.

Tysmin6 votes

it was problematic because it was strong.

CoffeeDave3 votes

It just feels like a stealth nerf to supports. Mobi boots are bad, CDR boots mean nothing because there's CDR on everything now, Swifty boots are garbage now, they remove boot enchantments so I can't get the captain upgrade anymore. It's not easy being a support nowadays and it's already an unpopular role.

cheaper better slow resist

Reducing the effectiveness of slows is a more valuable effect when dealing with slows, especially when you also get more movespeed at a cheaper price. Reducing duration of slows often doesn't provide any usefulness at all when items like Rylai's and IBG exist allowing for reapplication of slows well before they fall off.

Tysmin2 votes

if you are being hit by rylai's then the tenacity and MR make it better I would rather have a harder slow for a shorter time than a slightly weaker slow for a longer time.

It doesn't matter if the duration is reduced, they'll still reapply it before it wears off. In that situation swifties are more likely to let you get away than merc treads because you will be moving faster with swifties.

1374341 votes

Merc Treads reduce how long the slow is in effect.

Boots of Swiftness reduce the **effectiveness **of the slow (how strong it is).

Tysmin1 votes

that is correct however the amount of tenacity it gives is an all around better because you won't be slowed for as long and it reduces the effectiveness of all other types of cc

rtbf221479703 votes

Frozen mallet or Ash will keep you slowed for the same amount forever. Swifties grant overall more movespeed plus no magic damage is being applied requiring mitigation.

JusticePauldrons2 votes

Welp Merc treads are go to for everything now.

Profirix1 votes

Nah, Ninja Tabi are actually pretty good now.

Venowolf2 votes

Ok, increase the slow resist a little bit to compesate

Tenacity only reduces disables, not slows. So there's still that.
