Now i know sona has a good win rate as is but is her play style really what she was supposed to be?I mean the first time i played her which was a pretty long time ago like in late season 2 she was the support where you sit and use auras these auras were decent in strength but then received plenty of nerfs to the point where the only reason you picked her was because you liked her or you needed a stun bot or Q bot. Then soon you created her up date i was hoping you would make her be an aura support and reduce all the power you shoved into her Q and put it all back into her actual auras. But that seems not to be much of the case she was good but only because you didn't put the nerf bat on her face yet. Then in a very short time we see nothing but nerfs. But whose fault is that? Your fault riot you never addressed what made her so strong that you couldn't let her kit be strong. This is an open topic or a guess brainstorm to see how Sona could be changed to let her be strong you could even call this a debate on whether sona is good in her current state or if her old state was better now me on my stance i feel the Kit riot made was in a good direction in the giving raw stats might be just too strong but its her identity to buff her team so how would i change that?Well my first thoughts are that Actives should not be the real focus of her kit
Passive- Songstress presence - passively she grants armor and mr to herself and her allies the amount of armor and mr increase with each allie around her Q - Hymn of valor : toggle on - passively allies around her deal an extra bit of damage on auto attacks like her live passive but this also applies for single target spells as long as allies are in her aura range this effect continuously re-applies.it has no initial cost but for every time its damage is used as in any time an enemy gets hit by a spell or auto from her allies she loses mana that way she can keep it up as long as she wants without waisting mana W - Aria of Perseverance : toggle on - passively allies around her get a shield on taking damage similar to Yasuo passive plus at low health allies are healed by a % amount of missing health every time the shield is protected.she does not constantly spend mana but spends mana every time the effect gets used.
E - Song of celerity : Toggle on - passively sona and her allies gain movement speed they also gain an even bigger amount of movement speed when out of combat sona spends mana to keep the spell up R - Crescendo : in a area around sona she stuns all enemies and the stun last longer with each enemy she hits
sona can't have more than two abilities toggled at any one time.

please make sure to leave a comment of your opinion on the current state of sona enjoy the fan art i found as well

I main Sona myself.

I like Sona ... but i feel like the only way to play her to build ap... all of your abilities scale off it, auras included, so it seems pretty simple to just build full ap... but building ap is not entirely being a support... but at the same time she is being a support because of the buffs she grants. Tbh, she kinda is in a spot between a mid laner who is support like Velkoz Brand and Lux who's purpose is to actually give support by poke, but also like buff supports like Janna Soraka and Lulu . its a weird spot but it kinda works. Just my thoughts.

I feel like a broken record, but they changed her because they didn't like the aura-ness of her, so they removed them.

With changes in their opinions of what is healthy and ok for the game (Tanks with strong laning phases and I get close you die melee being examples) I hope they will make another champ that has a similar passive decision focused playstyle to old-Sona rather than the active mechanical focused champs we've been seeing.

Old Sona's gone though, they've put too much of their ego into the rework that they won't allow it to change back. Current Sona will be it for a while, with various balance changes here and there.

Her rework was basically Cass 1.0. They reworked her to remove unwanted play patterns and make her healthier, but ended up making an even more broken and unbalanceable kit than they started with and don't want to admit it was bad.

They made a comment about reworks where if they try to turn a Cs into an As and they only reach B, it's more efficient to work on other C's than try to finish the rework and get the A, but in this case they turned a C into an F, called it a B and plug their ears when people point out the issues saying "lalala".

I say ditch the supporting gimmick and give her more of a duelist feel while keeping her "sounds as weapons" thing intact

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

that would sound nice but keep in mind she was meant to be a support so riot probly wouldn't be on board with that dont even ask me why Mordekaiser became what he is now....

But as a support, she is going nowhere and currently must build like a carry just to have her heal noticable and her E aura to exist whatsoever. What I'm thinking of here is to make her more of a poke/sustain mage like she used to be pre-rework (if you can call it a rework) and shift a few numbers around to make her a decent mid laner.

As it stands, Lulu/Soraka/Janna could be mid lane gods with the same full-AP builds because their kits have decent ratios that dont make them overpowering as supports...mainly because meta supports rarely have 400+ AP by late game. Sona stood out because all she needed EVER was Lich Bane, and she could do real raw burst at super-early levels since her passive + Q was already another Sheen proc.

thats true i guess.i dont really think soraka and janna can mid though....

Janna's Q is great waveclear after mid game, but her early game is all about AAs and shielding since she cant afford to spam Qs pre 6

This is why I play Sona mid.

Riot needs to come to a conclusion about Sona, do they want her to be a full support or a AP bursty champion with supportive capabilities, she clearly cannot be both

How careful they handle the presumable upcoming changes in her will determine if the give a crap or not, all we can do is wait

i mean im suggesting she be an aura support since we already have poke supports Nami Karma Morgana plus they also bring a lot to the table.Nami has heals plus speed buffs and she can also have good CC pre 6 and improvers autos as well. Karma has high poke a root and Has an AOE shield with a speed buff.Morg has poke a very long duration root and a stun that can hit a whole team.

centering her entirely on auras is something Riot will never do though and with my opinion for a good reason, having her be entirely centered on keeping auras up makes her un-interactive and also churns out a ton of invisible power that is almost always way more powerful then it lets on to be

I'm one of those people who actually rooted for her getting rid of her perm upkeep auras in favor of more controllable power, however i do not really feel they handled the substitute that well

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

well do you have any ideas for a better sona? i mean you already seen my ideas i feel like mine is better over the crap riot gave us.Maybe auras are too strong but my thoughts are others are too weak instead of balancing down riot should be balancing up instead of forcing one champion to be over nerfed let other champions get some power as well balancing down only makes things feel unsatisfying to play with.

I'd say lying to our faces, repeatedly nerfing her literally dozens of times in the span of a single season and blatantly avoiding discussion for what is now only a few days short of 18 months makes it pretty clear already that Rito doesn't give a crap about her. They wouldn't have gutted her in the first place if they didn't hate her.

This can't work. She has the 3rd-lowest base mana of mage supports, terrible mana regen per level and a support's income for items. She would end up burning through mana faster than Ryze, I'm not certain she'd be able to function even with a fully stacked RoA + Seraph's. This forces her even farther away from the support role.

Having said that, why would she even need a continuous cost for auras in the first place? She didn't have them before 4.13 and she was already a sub-par champion. There's no reason to essentially revert her just so she can be nerfed in a different manner. I honestly believe the healthiest thing for Sona is to just fire the entire "balance" department, put her back the way she was pre-3.14 and keep her Crescendo cost at 100 mana.

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

well these are changes that are happening there just my suggestions. These changes i suggest would let her auras be strong and since she still pays for them it would help in the balancing you could balance how much mana it would cost and also balance how much base mana sona has in laning phase she wont use much mana since only one aura drains mana per second active and thats the speed buff the rest take mana when they are active she can keep the auras on whenever she wants without having to smash her hands on the keyboard.since they don't have an effect at the start that frees up room to give the toggle all the power. What are your thoughts take in mind riot probly will never bring back old sona just like they will never bring back old cass or old karma. So the best things to suggest to them is either a completely new rework or tweaks to her new kit to make her work better.

I remember, the main reason for Sonas rework was, to give her more interactivity and increasing clarity, like wich Sona aura is active, who Sona is aiming for, etc. Unfortunately, this does not work out as intended, because most ignore her Aura effects and it's bothersome. Also, the most say it all the time, but her E is completly dumb and weak compared to other MS buffs, and most don't even bother to level it up at lvl 3.

ikr the the biggest problem i have with sona is her E

I main the hell out of Sona and I can tell you straight up based on the posts here that your issue is you simply are not playing her correctly.

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

sona is a support mage whose whole goal is to poke enemies so her adc can farm and buff her allies she also seems to be played quite a bit mid lane riot was never clear on what sona should be focusing on and keeps nerfing her without giving any indication on what the want from her.
