Can someone explain to me how "smurfing" is actually fun?

So, let me get this straight.

Diamond + players throw temper tantrums that they can't beat people their own rank & progress so they buy low elo/mmr accounts and smurf against new players?

That's enjoyable to you people? That's like saying "On my free time I like to beat up the elderly!"

Over compensating at it's finest. I have zero respect for smurfs.

I like to play with my friends in their ELO. They can’t play in mine, so I made an account to play with them in theirs.

  1. Just because someone gets fed doesnt mean they're a smurf
  2. It's to try out new things in a competitive environment
  3. To play w lower ranked friends = fun. Forcing those bronze level friends to play at a plat level is total crap so dropping to the lowest common denominator is much more reasonable

It's only fun when the smurf is on your side LMAO right?

Some people can only have fun if they win, and those kinds of people will not hesitate to ruin other's fun for their own. A clear breach of the summoner's code.

I mean if you're genuinely asking this i'll give you a list

  1. Learning new champions while not getting shitstomped(people play troll champions in normals, so you don't really learn your powerspikes)
  2. Playing off roles
  3. Playing with friends
  4. Playing when extremely tired
  5. Playing on a new account with the intent to rank up to the same rank as your main for various reasons

You get to play with your low-skill friends.

IMHO, the biggest problem is when smurfs give up in rank bc they deem somebody "unworthy of the LP". There will usually be 2-3 other GOOD players trying their hearts out, but the smurf will baaaaasically int bc they dont care about the outcome of the game like people on their mains do.

Fun fact, there is a system in place to put smurfs against other smurfs.

MY idea is that, allow smurfs to exist in LOWER elo only, bc people CAN buy higher rank accounts and do poorly. And, mark them as smurfs, visible to all in game. And always have a matched number of smurfs.

Smurfs ruin games, at all ELOs.

Smurfs Ruin Rank and should be a bannable offence.

also, smurfing depends on the kind of person too. alot of people make accounts to place them and climb again with a better track record or get out of the rut their main is stuck in. i made mine to just play one champion and get better at it. unfortunately their are losers who purposely throw games to keep an account in gold silver or even bronze elo when they can play at a much higher level. in that particular case i have to agree with you.

Even though I am silver, I made an account for when I'm teaching a friend or relative how to play that is at a much lower ELO. However, I do not make it a point not to smash every game because

a.) it artifically inflates the elo of my team mates by them winning games where they are playing terribly b.) it makes both teams feel bad and while it may be fun for me, most of the other players aren't having fun

Ultimately, I don't let my play be the determining factor between winning and losing.

I see so many smurfs (or account sharing) showing off to impress their sibling or relative or GF or whatever. They go 22/3/8 every game and it's super unfun for the other 9 players. It isn't good for the game.

I hate smurfs... game is already stomp fiesta and getting stomped by 80% winrate dude is extremely frustrating. Fck them.

Nut on my Butt5/16/2018, 1:56:03 AM4 votes

I made a smurf for learning jungle which was an area I was extremely weak in, and I can say it was quite a success as it went from my worst role to my second best. I'd be lying if I said the stomps along the way weren't fun tho x:

The thing is, is that smurfing SHOULD happen. Having a smurf account helps to de-stress from the game on an account that isn't your main, you can practice uncomfortable things in ranked, you can play with your lower elo friends, and it brings more money for riot in general.

For the people complaining that it creates an uneven playing field and it makes for a really unfun experience, I'd say you really aren't trying to improve then. Think of a smurf playing in your game as a test to your skill as a player. And if you end up feeding to him? So what! Download that match, watch the replay, see what you can gather from it and LEARN! That's the way these smurfs rose to the top and came to understand the game. If you only have bad players playing against bad players all the time and mindlessly bashing their faces into the keyboard to MAYBE come out on top, do you really think that any of those players are going to be seriously improving? Pressure creates Diamonds.

And before I get a ton of messages, let me clarify some things. Yes, I understand that it can be frustrating to play against a smurf when you don't have as much game knowledge as them, and getting blown out of the water is super unfun if you don't understand why it is that you're losing or w/e. Regardless of if they are on your team or not, It's only for a small percent of your games that you actually encounter a smurf. As diamond players, we are like the top 1% of all players in north america, and In the world, It should be an even smaller percentage. We've all been at that level before, and we know how it feels. You gotta rise above the normies.

tl;dr smurfing is good, it is okay for the game, and you should take as much as you can from these games win or lose because they should statistically not happen as often, and don't bash on smurfs just because u bad, everyone started somewhere :P

MasterDClone5/16/2018, 2:53:15 AM3 votes

i do it to de-stress and to play other champions in ranked without it affecting my rank. As a shaco OTP playing anyone else will kill my mmr and my rank very fast, so i made a smurf to play other champs and roles.

It's fun because I get to play with friends and play random troll champions with troll builds and dominate people with it. Almost everyone smurfs it's nothing new.
