Can people who are actually nice actually get crests of honor?

Zelnick··63 votes·3,793 views

Not including myself recently, I have friends I play with who never troll who are always nice and never get reported for anything, yet after 2 or 3 or 4 years of playing they have 0 crests which is ridiculous.

So, I think there should be some mechanism either in the forums or within the game to nominate someone (other than yourself). A basic algorithm would go through their last 100 games of chat text to see they didn't say anything discriminatory (including loophole spellings like %%%%% or b i T ¢ h) or use negative phrases (like "go back 2 bronze nub"). If they pass that test, which, looking at how common toxicity is it should still be somewhat rare, someone at Riot (or possibly a community vote?) would personally sift through what they've said to see if it's had a positive influence on the game and give them a crest.

Most people forget that the honor system even exists. So, relying on players who you play with often is a good way to go. I think this is a good idea because it requires someone else to have the motivation to honestly speak to your integrity, it requires that you've been around in the game for a while time and have been consistently kind or helpful, it does the same thing as the current system but better and with more flexibility.

Crests of honor come from in game honoring. Being nice doesn't get you any points unless they honor you for it.

I've had two different types of honor crests, but as toxicity levels rose among the playerbase the amount of honor players gave out dropped.

But that's exactly the problem, some people think other people are nice but they just forget about the honor system completely, or they're so mad from losing they don't want anyone to be happy. Either way, there's people who should be honored who aren't being honored. It's even worse in ranked because there's people who don't even communicate at all.

Personally I think the numbers are to high.

I've been playing for only about 1 year, have over 200 teamwork and over 150 honorable opponent honors and I haven't gotten anything. At what point do you earn something?

DeathToEcchi2 votes

It's relative to games played. So the less people give out honor, the less likely it becomes to see crests.

Which is why I want a more direct way to honor people.

You have to maintain a constant amount of honors all the time. It's not about having a massive amount, but getting them constantly, a few every week or so at least, which is exactly why you rarely see them. People don't often give out honors, and so people don't often receive honors, meaning a very small portion of people have them.

Drugoth8 votes

I think the reason you rarely see these crests anymore is just because it's been a long time since they were initially implemented. The hype is gone and people rarely hand out honor anymore.

FantasySniper2 votes

Yeah, a rioter mentioned that they had to tune up the requirements because it was "all the rage" but they never tweaked it again.

I have 259 friendly, 99 helpful, 779 teamwork and 350 honorable opponent which I think should deserve a crest of honor of it's own. (I've never got any type of punishment)

OokamiNoSora6 votes

I have 271 friendly, 175 helpful, 930 teamwork, 199 honorable opponents (dont even know how I have so many of those since I have all chat off) but still have no ribbons. I feel like the system wasnt really put together very well.

cocacolalips1 votes

That just means you play a lot.

You don't get Honor crests from playing a lot, you get them from consistently earning honor pts.

If you play 10 000 games and earn 5 000 teamwork pts, you won't get it. You only get honored half the time.

But if you play 100 games and earn 100 teamwork pts, you'll get it. You get honored every game.

PaladinNO3 votes

338 Friendly, 182 Helpful, 1122 Teamwork, and 280 Honourable Opponent. And I haven't seen a Green - or indeed ANY - ribbon since before I was level 30, where I had the Green one 4 times.

They talk about "getting consistent honours", but...as they've also said honours from premades count for almost nothing, and they're also actively(!) trying to get people to play premade, what's even the point in the honour system as it is now?

Also, upon server transfer, you lose all your accrued honours, saying it's because "you haven't earned your honours on that server" (BS! Being honourable is being honourable!). Essentially saying you'll never see them back, ever, if you already got a high number of honours, because let's be honest: almost nobody honours anymore.

The current honour is more like not getting reported...

I'd move to EUW, as that's where all my IRL friends are, but I'm quite fond (and proud, if I may say so) of my honours, despite them have or have not any real value in the game [anymore]. And so I am "bound" to stay on EUNE.

balbraaksel2 votes

That's actually a really good argument about premades.

I think it is something to be proud of as well (I am as well, that's also why I said here that it should deserve a crest of it's own).

Exactly, and that fact shows itself. It's time that changes, this makes honor a lot more flexible, you don't need to be in a match to do it so you can do it whenever you have the time and have analyzed the situation.

Pretty sure statistics show it's less toxic, but there's also dynamic queue complainers which really should only be a complaint of people in diamond 2 or above at best. People in lower elos confuse this with their own lack of skill and troll henceforth.

Honestly League was nowhere near as toxic back in season 2. The current state of League feels so forced, and so stale. There's barely any communication, and when there is, it's outright arguments/toxicity.

Nonstop arguments are also toxic, and don't lead to enjoyment of the game.

So then let's encourage positive playing if that's true.

YOU MEAN LIKE LYTE PROMISED FOR LITERALLY 3 STRAIGHT SEASONS AND NEVER FOLLOWED THROUGH?

In all seriousness now, you really can't make the argument that riot really cares about player reform. The have bot do all the banning for them now, and it doesn't take much searching through these forums to see that it has made some colossal fuck ups. However, when it does ban people erroneously, Riot support staff invariably backs it up with "evidence". Let's be crystal clear here, if everyone got banned every time they said "fuck you" in game, there wouldn't be enough players to field a game at any elo whatsoever. Also, the fact that literally 0 explanation for most bans is given proves that riot gives 0 shits about reforming players and only cares about applying a quick and easy burst of negative reinforcement, which in my experience only leads to more frustration and primes that player for even more toxicity.

I feel like system worked and distributed crests for like few weeks after release, and then it clogged forever, I neither never earned any crest despite many honors, and the only people I know got them was those right after release with no more than like 30 honors when people spammed them like crazy, then system toggled in effect everyones honors value to shiet, and so now the chance of earning those crests is like 0. We need global reset on honor values. Maybe newly created accouns got those "valuable" honors but for older account that just dont play with such people got apparently no chance to get them.

Dr Poro2 votes

2 ways got get those crests

  1. Play mainly bot games. People there hand out more honors on average.
  2. Say "honored all" or "honored X" after every game. Sometimes people will honor you back simply for saying that.

The system is pretty skewed and in dire need of a rework.

I just said "get rekt" to a team mate. Welp guess I'm not getting an honor ribbon! Great system you suggested!

Not everyone wants to act like they're at work or school and be formal in a fucking game. If you're honored, I'm pretty sure you weren't being toxic in the first place. So why does the god damn chat matter?

See, this is why people like you regularly get reported and banned, you're either 10 years old or you lack the basic social instinct to comprehend how being pompous and arrogant creates a negative experience for players. It's clearly not a joke because it's not funny or witty in any way, the only people who I've ever seen say that line to random players are people who the entire team agrees to report.

Except ive never gotten a warning or gotten banned in the 4 years ive been playing. So nice try. Its funny because someone made a silly mistake. If theyre as sensitive as you are, then yeah its not funny. Ive never been reported by the people i tease. They all tease back and tend to have fun. I even get honors from the people im apparently being "toxic" to. You lack the ability to comprehend jokes and joke around. Thats your fault.

Lmfao you must be so fun to play with. And clearly my argument is much better considering all youre getting is downvotes. And you ignore half of what i say by screaming "youre toxic" I even gave you the definition of banter. Use it.

Except unless your account is less than one month old, you definitely have been reported. So nice try. It's not funny because unless you're strictly with your friends, it has zero comedic value whatsoever, it's less than even a fart joke. Or, a simple explanation could also be that you're at bronze 5 or below, a place where trolling is so common that they have zero standards there.

What does my rank have to do with this? I'm a higher rank than you so u might wanna shut up about that too :^) Have u never teased someone before? LOL. If you play in an elo like diamond, your own team could easily report you or get mad at you for saying "get rekt." Generally the higher the elo the more respectful players there are, you never see anyone in LCS typing that troll shit.

How is it antagonizing to joke around? Since when did we even have bad intentions? I'm speaking from personal experience. I've never had a single issue with people getting hurt over banter in game. The report system exists for TOXICITY. JOKING and TOXICITY are two separate things. You're the problem if you think everyone is toxic. "lol i fucked up" GG i cursed, guess no honor for me since it picks out words! It's a god damn game, not a workplace. Stop acting like everyone needs to be professional. Even in a workplace people make jokes about each other. **HOW IS BANTER TOXIC AT ALL I REALLY DON'T GET IT. YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT HERE. **

Take a hint. No one agrees with your point on what we're arguing about. (Don't come at me with the "my OP has 40 upvotes because I'm not arguing with the entire topic.) http://imgur.com/a/9q7Kc

I'm done arguing with someone who doesn't even understand 10% of what I'm saying. Reply back, but I'm done with you. For someone who seems to be soooo old and knowledgeable about the world, you can't seem to grasp my point.
