How many players knows what "macro" is ?

Talking about Gold league. My average skill level is Gold 3. I am surprised of how many players in gold league are not just ignorant about objectives (mostly dragons or rotation) but it makes me to think they never heard of what macro is. I get super frustrated, where I see junglers not being aware of dragons timer and they ether ganks, farms top lane or dies just before dragons appears.

Another scenario: Jungler is ready for dragon, but then either mid or adc keeps farming instead of helping secure the objective.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THOSE GOLD PLAYERS ? Why they not aware of objectives or overall macro play ? As former SC2 player, i know that in no way you can get to gold in SC2 with poor macro but in LOL it looks like majority of gold players gives no sht about it.

Can you share your experience: what is your league and have you ever heard before word "macro" , do you know what "macro" is ?

Most people don't really care about learning the game inside out, and getting the hang of both micro and macro play takes more effort than just playing the game casually, Which I would assume 80%(?) of players do

Gold is low Elo lol

I dont have stats but, if I remeber correctly, Silver 3-2 is average player base. So gold must be like 40-30% top players ? If I am right, then it's not low ELO, it must be above average. Back on question. If ony 20% of gold players understands the significance of macro play, does that mean they should be in higher league/division ?

PS, i checked your profile, you are only Plat player yourself, dunno why you belittle gold players ?

I'm Gold 3 and it's considered top 18%, so I'd say Gold 4 0 lp would be around 27%-30%.

In other words, above average.

Because once I started to improve on my own play I realized how horrible gold Elo is and how easy it is to 1v9 carry even as a support.

It’s low elo for many reasons and it’s the reason most websites take Plat+ only in account.

Macro isn't something that stops being a problem until high plat/low diamond. If I had to draw a rough outline of how to climb out of each elo/where each elo is weakest at that inhibits their ability to climb, it's: Bronze - Knowledge/Egotistic Silver - Champion Mechanics/Overconfident Gold - Game Mechanics/Too humble Plat - Understanding Composition (and how each champion should play any given matchup)/Egotistic and Angry Diamond - Applying Game Knowledge (including macro)/Egotistic Master+ - Reducing Mistakes per game and Punishing Mistakes

Gold elo players throw. A LOT. Because they don't really know much about the game or what to do. They only play for kills. How many times do you see people flash for kills and either die immediately after, or consequently die over and over while their flash is down. Or the botlane that goes 0/6 but still ends up winning the game. It's because people only care about KDA in Gold and don't really know or don't care what they do after they get a kill. They just stack up their kills and think they're good.

Because of this, you should NEVER surrender in Gold. Throws happen so frequently that even if all three of your inhibitors are down there's still a chance that one assassin on the enemy team is going to go in for a kill in your base while his entire team is still in their base and give you free 1000g shutdown and the 4v5 advantage.

What you should focus on in Gold is learning the mechanics of the game and how you can take advantage of them. It's rare that you can rely on your team, you need to know how to carry them. Don't say "I can't carry these noobs/trolls/feeders", because if a Master tier player can smurf from Iron to Diamond with only two losses with the same amount of noobs/trolls/feeders you get on your teams then there's clearly a way to carry them. That's where utilizing these game mechanics come in. You get a kill, now what do you do with it? Figuring out these miniature things and how you can utilize them as a SOLO player in SOLO queue is important to climbing.

Also, micro mechanics like pinging more often to get your team to back out of a dangerous situation or to signal to your team that you see an opportunity to engage, that something is warded etc. is important to climbing. Stutter stepping, staying at your max range as an adc/mage, leaving a fight when you're about to die rather than dying in the fight, etc.

Don't expect to see people with flawless macro until Diamond 3+.

Enjoyed every paragraph of your writing. As Diamond ex-SC2 player probably I demand too much my fellow golders in LOL to be good in Macro.

Shame that i play niche champ Zilean (he is he only reason I play LOL). Not sure, maybe that's the reason I got hard stuck in Gold, as I start Zilean only as support and trying to evolve him to AP carry with cs'less start. Lots of new champ made zilean unplayable as solo laner (yasuo, irelia etc.)

It took me 3 weeks to get gold in sc2 (a friend of mine even get to platinum after his first placement games) and took me a year to get platinum in league. Yes you can even get to platinum by just knowing what to build in SC2.
