sure im low elo player , unskilled trash who doesnt know about the game , like people will comment under but i ve played SO MANY times agaisnt riven and i played her also Havent seen a single fed riven since time shes kinda not viable in this last patchs , even tho she got a good mobility and shield good bursst dmg but i think she struggles against bruisers like nasus or garen darius ... etc with the new juggernaut items , also if you have a good support thier riven is useless as she will focus on the adc , shes also screwed if the adc position himself in a place where its danger for riven. am i the only one who thinks that riven is weak in this patches ?

Wait... a low elo player who thinks that Riven is weak? Upvoted

Garen counters Riven hard because of the silence-spin2win combo. Pretty much all of her mobility comes from spells (her MS is 345, and her dashes are approximately equivalent to MS of 500-ish), so she has to eat all of Garen's damage. Also, the bruisers were buffed hard with the new items.

Riven can get out of hand and snowball hard, though. That's the part what most people complain about.

Are you the only one who thinks Riven is weak? On these Boards, yeah probably.

On the same type of boards where if someone, or a large group of people, gets bootystomped and cries for a champion to be deleted/Gutted and downvote anyone that brings any facts or actual balance to the table while milking themselves in their own circlejerk.

pacifishstick1 votes

..yes? I mean, I wasn't necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with the post, rather stating that it seems like Riven is being whined about a lot on the Boards right now (not Vayne levels, but still) so making a thread asking for Riven buffs or saying she's underpowered might not go so well. Mostly because of what you said though - people whining and complaining in a never ending circle jerk.

Vayne hate will probably go away soon.

pacifishstick2 votes

One can only hope. It's getting old. Particularly when I'm trying to browse the front page and every other thread is about her.

90% of people saying that riven is op , they go assasin against her and a fighter like wu and never builds armor they give her first blood , then they come to boards and complaining how op is riven ..

I think you're making a mistake many on here make. Riven has a whole lot of terrible matchups at the moment, but overall she is not weak.

The meta decides who is viable, and Riven's viability is dropping, however champion strength only dictates whether a champion is able to be viable. It does not actually dictate whether they are viable or not. A long time Riven main will still be able to do well in this setting, where as a new Riven would not.

To put it simply Riven is still strong, even if it is currently harder to do well with her.

thats exactly what i tried to state in the thread but didnt knew how to express it , since im abit bad in english .

Your English is more than acceptable, and is actually better than some around here who speak it as a primary language.

She is a bipolar champion. Can be absolute trash on the hands of a newbie but on experienced players she can be strong.

FacerollKatarina1 votes

A bad riven (like myself) who is terrible at her is going to make her look worse than if you were to play janna mid lane. But if you play vs a good riven who is great at animation cancels then riven is going to seem like the most overpowered champion in the game.

Riven is Nasus's hard counter lol...

redniwediS3 votes

Only if the Nasus is bad, or if Riven has jungle help. It's way too easy to safely farm under turret at the moment.

Only Aatrox1 votes

Don't let him freeze under turret then, force him to back before the wave gets under his turret. Nasu's wither is basically hard coutnered by Riven's mobility you should take advantage of that. Her AD scaling shield also pretty much negates all Q damage form him early. There is plenty of time to shut him down if you know how toplay the lane.

redniwediS2 votes

Teleport makes that very difficult to do. He just backs, buys five healing potions, and teleports back with a minimal experience advantage and enough sustain to last him until teleport comes off of cooldown.

Riven can't dive Nasus unless he makes a mistake, and Nasus can easily out sustain her trades.

Only Aatrox1 votes

You can take telport on riven is well. 5 sure he can buy health pots, but Riven is a manaless champ you can combo him pretty much infinitley. You just need to freeze the wave and zone him from cs, that ways if you combo him you wont push and he wont be able tosustain. Tjose 5 pots wont keep him in lane long and once tp is blown he'll have to walk tolane or just stay under tower.

redniwediS2 votes

You can combo him infinitely, yes, but you can't do it fast enough. Between his passive and the potions he will still be standing by the time TP comes off cooldown.

You make it sound like the moment Nasus leaves tower he will get jumped by Riven and murdered. Nasus is pretty darn tanky, and has built in sustain, so it will take Riven multiple engagements to finally get him to the point where he has to back. During this time Riven will have to use her own potions, and Nasus will be getting stacks.

Because of his build and his way of getting damage Riven will be outscaled by Nasus come mid game if she doesn't roam, and if she roams Nasus gets top lane farm all to himself.

This should be an easy matchup for Riven, but the cooldown reduction of teleport when it is used on towers tipped the scales. Many youtubers have covered it far better than I will be able to here, so I would suggest hearing about the problems with teleport in the top lane meta, or trying this matchup yourself (from both sides), before making any other assumptions.

Only Aatrox1 votes

Nasus is only tanky when he buidls tany items. Of coutrse a good nasus will be able to beat a riven, it's all relative to skill. But in general Riven should have the upper hand in this mathcup. I actually have tried the matchup myself. I've played a lot of Top lane (I main it actually) and thus inevitably encountered my decent share of nasus players so I'm not making assumptions I'm actually speaking from experience. You need to understand how to shut down a nasus early the same way you need to understand how to shut down a yi in the jungle. If you don't do this, then champions like this will scale uncontrollably hard into the late game. Nasus is a late game champion that means the longer you delay his power spikes, i.e. his Q stacks the longer it willt ake him to get to the late game. Riven's kit allows her to go in deal a lot of burst damage and then get back out is why she is so good against nasus. His sustain is built in life steal wich is good against champions with sustained damage because it effecitvvely give you more health in prolonged fight, its not as effecitve againt burst damage especially if the burst can be applied every 10ish seconds. Of course if you let him free farm for the first 10 minutes it's going to be a hard lane.

redniwediS2 votes

What I'm saying is Nasus knowing how to pull the minion wave to him through basic minion wave management skills, along with the lower cooldown on teleport, is enough for him to beat Riven without Riven's jungler assisting in a dive.

Knowing how to break a freeze always trumps knowing how to make one, and the occasional stacking will be more than enough to extend his time in lane. He doesn't need to outlast Riven, he needs to outlast the TP cooldown, and when you are never really that far from your tower Riven can't reliably trade fast enough to beat the timer without help.

Nasus won't go stack crazy against a Riven, but he will be more than capable of getting enough stacks to stay relevant when mid game hits and he can truly start the stack fest. In an even skill matchup pre teleport buff Riven would be the favored victor, hands down, but post teleport buff Nasus actually does better. Yes it's an old teleport change, but there's a reason Nasus play spiked afterward. The power teleport gives when playing passively is the problem here, not anything specific to Riven or Nasus.

Riven is a snowballer, not a babysitter, and so she will fall behind where she should be even if she does successfully stall Nasus.

Only Aatrox1 votes

A riven with good creep management will be able to do exactls the same. You make it sound as if Riven players have no idea how to manage and freeze a lane. If you have trouble with Nasus's sustain in lane then perhaps it is better for you to roam. You have to consider winning lane is not always the ideal way to tie up a game. With this Nasus example, if you realize you wotn be able to kill him in lane then roam. Take objectives else where and take advantage of the fact that probably Nasus won't want to give up farm until about the 15-20 minute mark. Shut downother lanes, start taking dragons etc. Teleport allows for a lot of diverse plays if you communicat with your team properly. Take advantage of the fact that Nasus will almost exclusively use it to farm. Riven on theother hand can yous it to gank an over extended lane and pick up some kills and then snowball thorugh that to kill Nasus in lane.

I find it funny how when someone calls Riven OP, the usual reply is "No she's not, get gud, bronz scrub!"

But when someone who is low elo calls Riven weak, the usual reply is "Finally! Someone who gets it!"

So, what is it guys? Is she weak and rank has nothing to do with our knowledge of balance or is she OP and if you're low elo you have no idea how the balance of the game works?

Or are you just protecting your Waifu?

4ManVotedAgainst1 votes

Against Riven I tend to have more success when I start with a item 1054 and go 09/21/00 instead of 25/05/00 masteries (yes, defensive-masteries, because damage-mitigation). Combine that with just farming safely initially, not doing any trades until I get a first major item (unless I can land it safely without retalation from her), then I can proceed to get myself fed by focusing the Riven and killing her a lot.

Tbh I dunno why people complain about Riven in low elo. Riven is only really dangerous when people who play her are good at her mechanics.

But when they are, the matchup is kinda toxic. She can just go in for free trades because due to her knockback, stun and shield preventing any retaliation damage. So she kinda zones you from CSing, or you take free damage.

Maybe the people complaining faced smurfs. Who knows?

She can only get free damage against champions which can't re-engage after she Qs away. If you re-engage, she won't be able to fight back because her abilities are on CD and she doesn't deal any damage without her abilities obviously. Thats why Renekton and Irelia are good counters to Riven.

That's why I ban Irelia when I play Riven. It's a fun matchup though. But one kill decides this matchup. Irelia just says "fuck you" when I try to disengage or when I messed up my trade. God I hate this matchup so much.

thats exactly the problem. You have these plat smurfs going into bronze and destroying any toplane there is. Some of the only times I've noticed a smurf in my games is when they are playing riven.

I'm sure you've fought against many Rivens who can animation cancel perfectly in bronze III. Seriously. I usually don't look up people's rank to bash them about it but why in God's name are you talking about "low elo players" and "unskilled trash" if you're bronze III??????? Is the Dunning-Kruger effect that strong?

This is the only time a gold/plat riven player will upvote a bronze post.

Riven is weak if you don't know how to animation cancel. Riven is weak if your against a garen who is not a complete moron. Riven is weak when counter picked. Riven is weak when very far behind. Riven is weak....... If your bad at her.(which I am)
