Guys. Stop complaining about the fucking tentacles.

Sure, they deal a LOT of damage, but damage is all Illaoi really has. She has no mobility, almost no reliable damage (W deals minor damage, everything else is massively telegraphed), no hybrid damage, no % damage, no hard CC, etc. When behind, she is as useless as can be, since she has almost no utility, and what utility she has is for the purpose of dealing damage.

Sure, her E is annoying, but seriously, there are so many ways to play around it.

  1. Don't get hit by the E
  2. Hit her to shorten the time the spirit is active
  3. Walk out of range, and then dodge tentacles.

Sure, her ult sets up high damage slaps, but you can still do things against it.

  1. Dodge the ult itself, with either a reactionary spell like Flash, or an untargetability like Zhonyas.
  2. Take the fight out of the ult area. You wouldn't stand on a Rumble ult for the entire duration, would you?
  3. In the words of Piccolo.... "DODGE"

Does Illaoi deal assloads of damage? Yeah, but that is really all she has. If Illaoi diddn't deal much damage, she would be shittier than release Bard.

What about banning Shyvana ? I mean iirc she also almost got killed by a dragon... I think?

She had a pet dragon....unless that happens in SAOII, which I still need to get around to finishing

It's been awhile since I watched the ENTIRE series. XD WAIT! I figured it out just now due to what you said... I was thinking of the blacksmith girl!

Lmao ikr. And then what I like to call "Remembering Hate," when they did the exact same thing to Silica in the Fairy Dance arc. Like... dudes THIS WAS NOT A GOOD CALLBACK XD

Ever seen SAO abridged? It's pretty hilarious (I pulled the sword line from their episode on this one :P)

Oh yes. SWEAbridged 10/10. I fucking love them so much. Kirito being crazy fits SO MUCH BETTER than canon Kirito. XD

I don't understand how people don't get that last part of DODGING HER TELEGRAPHED ATTACKS!

JusticePauldrons4 votes

No, because it is bullshit for single skill to have to force someone to be a passive bitch for 15 seconds so they can kill the tentacles in the BEST scenario. In the worst they take unstoppable health damage.

Eh what? 1 thread saying Illaoi can be seen in the fog of war 1 thread saying Illaoi isn't even that broken 1 thread saying ppl should stop complaining about Illaoi (this thread)

That's about it in the hot category. There are some unpopular older threads aswell: 1 complaing about her E being 'unfun' and 1 saying she's too strong once people somewhat learned how to play her

Stop pretending like you are the minority. You are part of the majority that thinks she is balanced. Currently her data reminds me of T'K back when he was released. I think she is probably overtuned, but can't tell for sure atm. But if I had to bet I'd say she needs nerfs.

77.35% win rate for 15 to 50 games played as illaoi

Please tell me how that is balanced.

You don't seem understand the concept of getting past the learning curve.

You should be rewarded for getting past the learning curve but it should be nowhere near that much if an overall gain in win rate for doing so.

Nagoh Shan1 votes

I don't think you're getting it.

Look at the page again. The range you're talking about is so small, that it's not even showing in the percentage breakdown. Meaning it's such a statistically insignificant amount as to not be comparable. A win-streak or two can heavily skew the numbers.

A good example is look at the 50-125 and 125+ numbers. It would not be reasonable to believe that a person "got past the learning curve" and see massive win-rates in 15-50, then just lose it and drop back down to 44%.

Bârd1 votes

I would normally agree with you here, but...

Well, I mean... it's Illaoi.

She just came out a couple of weeks ago, so the number of people at 125+ games with her (especially considering her ban rate) is going to be VERY low, meaning that the sample size is not significant.

Give that a couple more weeks.

Bârd1 votes

No. You got that all wrong. 10.87% of people have 5-15 games played, and at that level, the winrate is 49.77%.

The number of people with between 15 and 50 games is so low that it doesn't even appear on the pie chart for player experience.

The sample size with that massive winrate probably has about 10 people in it, which is what we in the business call a "fluke".

Nagoh Shan1 votes

Oh no, I definitely agree there, though an average 44% winrate over 41000 games is moderately concerning, it's only so, when analyzing the learning curve over the first 15 games played with her. It will be interesting to see how she does with more experience under player's belts.

IIRC it took a couple months for people to realize how strong Sion was after the rework and even longer for people to notice how stupidly strong a fighter Tahm was. I called Tahm being strong early after he came out.

I just think it's way too early to make any numerical change, with the information we have Riot may have other information including PBE samples, and would like to generally avoid the same issue we've seen in the past with very quick reactionary balance adjustments.

But my 100% winrate over six games shows she's hella broken :p.

77.35% win rate for 15 to 50 games played as illaoi

Please tell me how that is balanced.

Players with 15-50 games make up 0.44% of her playerbase. The vast majority of her playerbase are people who have 1-5 games on her.

The sample size isn't large enough to be statistically relevant yet. Give it more time.

Bârd1 votes

Simple. Illaoi is very good against people who don't know what she does. She just came out a couple of weeks ago, so a lot of people are not familiar with how to play against her yet.

Gentzer2 votes

TL;DR

The biggest counterplay to Illoai's E?

Punching her in the face.

Kitten of Evil2 votes

Sure, her E is annoying, but seriously, there are so many ways to play around it.

  1. Don't get hit by the E
  2. Hit her to shorten the time the spirit is active
  3. Walk out of range, and then dodge tentacles.

These aren't really counterplay options. "Don't get hit by X" isn't counterplay, since it costs Illaoi almost nothing to cast it whenever it's off CD (at least Blitz is spending 100 mana for each attempt), and "Walk out of range then dodge tentacles" isn't either. That's exactly what her E is intended to do--to take you out of the fight and away from CS for 20-30 seconds. Letting a skill do what it wants to do isn't counterplay.

Bârd1 votes

Yes. Those are counterplay options.

They are things you can do against the spell to mitigate or negate its effectiveness.

That is, by definition, counter play.

Kitten of Evil1 votes

Letting the spell do what it is intended to do (i.e. make you a vessel) is not counterplay. Period.

And Riot doesn't generally think that "don't get hit by X" is sufficient counterplay either. Remember the Nidalee spear nerfs? "Just don't get hit by them" wasn't counterplay enough because they were too strong when they did hit, and because Nidalee could spam them cheaply, fishing until she landed one. The exact same issue applies to Illaoi's E, which has a laughably low mana cost. Blitz has a rather toxic hook as well, but at least he can't spam it whenever it's off CD (100 mana cost).

I don't have enough skill to comment with any authority, but my Silver IV experience has been that I can't complain either way. I hope to see her in the LCS, but who knows where her state will be by then.

MasterSomething1 votes

Personally, I think she's slightly overtuned, but other than that, she is perfectly balanced. I just uh... suck balls at dodging her Q and tentacles.

I'm very, very bad at doing that.
