How difficult it is to change your main role?

I'm thinking of switching to learn assassins since I don't have as much time as I used to for playing League. I want a role that can take over a game and dictate it. How difficult would be switch be considering at the moment I mostly play support?

at your ELO, not that hard. Assuming you can CS properly

Unless you cannot CS, then you would have to focus on csing.

CS is a core skill. Being good at CS will help playing any role since any role can do better with farm if it's allowed to get items and get stronger.

yes but you said you play supp, and you are low elo, so I think your csing isn't on point.

To master assassins, it's going to take time. You'll have to play for a while to get them down, especially since they need to get in melee range to successfully eliminate a target. You'll have to play close CDs that can screw you over (cc, invulnerability, dashes, etc). In the end the switch should be natural. I started playing the game with assassins and haven't really changed yet but don't think changing roles should be that hard. Just be wary of the fact that you're a squishy melee high burst champ. FYI, The assassin class is also getting a rework soon.

When is "soon"?

Assuming you are talking about the assassin rework it will likely happen in pre-season so November/December.

Pff. That's not soon at all.

Who would you recommend for starters?

I'm thinking Master Yi since I've had some experience with him as I played him alot when I get his Project skin last year. I know his abilities well so I can focus on other stuff like focusing on prioritizing targets and striking the balance with farming and ganking.

Definitely try out Master Yi to get the basic idea of assassination down. I'd also consider picking up Zed as compared to other assassins he's a bit more straight-forward focusing on more single-target assassination and is more forgiving to beginners since he is a safe-assassin. Just know that learning Zed is more difficult than learning a new support, mage, or tank but once you understand how and when to use his abilities and combos it's very rewarding.

Assassins don't dictate the game

Assassins don't dictate the game

If an assassin gets ahead he's able to create picks in lane which leads to taking early turrets and opening the map for securing objectives much more easily. At least that's my impression from the role of an assassin.

Yes but in the lategame most assassins kill 1 person and that is it (unless fed) which MIGHT change the game, but it most likely won't

It's been difficult for me to try new things. I have a lot of trouble playing assassins myself because I've become accustomed to a 'better-safe-than-sorry' style. The well-being of my team is worth more to be than the defeat of the enemy, so I often leave an enemy at low health and let him back than try to finish him off while risking my own life.

You need to go into it with an open mind. You may think you know a lot about the game, but you will want to try to forget the majority of what you're used to. I think you need to pay attention to new types of details, and learn what they mean in your new-found positions. (As an assassin, the capabilities of your champion, and how they relate to new scenarios against enemies.)

That depends on you, specifically, and the role switch. Switching from Mid to Sup will be harder than switching from Top to Mid, for instance. For me, it's hard the first few games, but then I start to get the hang of it.

Really Zed ?

I always thought he was a particularly high skill cap champ and I should really wait off before trying him out.

Going to assume you meant to reply to my comment down below.

Yes, Zed. If you look all the other assassins' kits (Talon, Shaco, Akali, Katarina) you could note that a few (Leblanc, Ekko, Zed) have something in their kit that allows them to go back to a "safe" zone (LeBlanc W, Ekko Ult, Zed Ult). This makes these particular assassins more forgiving to new players looking to try them out. I particular suggest Zed over the others because he focuses more on single-target assassination than most other assassins (exception of Shaco, Rengar, Khazix) but also has a pretty easy escape plan. His early game is one of the best of his class and is not as feast or famine as other assassins are. I would try him more as a side quest you can say but focus more on getting the basic assassin mechanics down with MasterYi.
