My new Favorite Champion! TY Riot Devs!

I Haven't been a Top laner in awhile, I have been a pretty decent support now for the past 2 seasons give or take, maybe 2 1/2 and there are a few champs that i enjoy playing in the bot lane but tbh support can be so boring when your adc isn't on same page as you.

I decided to dust off my boots and try and go top lane again, I never really had a large champ pool in the top lane, I was a Kayle 1 trick in s6 and s7 and also picks up old swain and malz in s7 but i never really was too good and honestly i am a better support at least that's until i started playing TWO champs in particular and 1 of them being my absolute Favorite! So fun!

RYZE!!

I know i know, he's been reworked like 15x or whateva and honestly i was always intimidated by his kit (old R CDR thing) so i never played him but i decided recently to try him out since i wanted to play new champs and not the same ones i use to and man this champ is SO FUN!

Ryze is honestly like 1 Trick Worthy to me because how fast he can play and also all the cool stuff you can do with your R and I know his kit has been dumbed down and that's actually why i tried him out and i've just been playing a lot just getting use to how he plays and everything and it even got me to start playing cassiopeia again who was one of those mages who is kinda spammy like Ryze.

I am just saying I actually like the Re-Work Ryze because honestly I am not some mechanical genius who can pick up and play anything. It actually took me a few games to really figure out this champ and now i feel like i am so much of a lane dominate player with him but only matchup i have really struggled with so far is mordekaiser

anyways ryze is so fun! i bet this is how riven 1 tricks feel when they really start getting the hang of stuff and just smashing folks

Fair enough. Accessibility and ease of learning champions is definitely an issue with League these days. A lot of the new champions have paragraph long passives.

I was trying out Ryze this last week too. He's fun, but the range on E and W can be frustrating compared to his Q range. Are you playing him as burst or tank Ryze?

it depends on if i'm ahead or behind. I start off with just archangel staff and sorc boots, if i start doing decent / ok i get morellos+zhonyas and then Void Staff and Deathcap (oh sometimes i get spellbinder too)

if i start falling behind or need to be a big presence in fights then i basically go tank with frozen heart and righteous glory and a void staff, super budget build

His W is the only thing that really bugs me, i wish the CD on it was a bit shorter so it could line up better with everything, that W CD just throws everything off so basically i've only been using E W when there is someone to follow up or if i need to Run but i often dont use E W to actually lock ppl down cause it just locks up the rotation imo

I'm still figuring out builds. So far getting Tear on first back is pretty basic, but otherwise I like to go pretty tanky since Ryze doesn't have as much early game presence. Reminds me of Kayle in that way. Survive until mid game and he can be crazy, but early he doesn't have enough follow up unless the laning opponent takes too many E hits by standing in the minion wave.

So, like get tear, then Frozen heart if AD or Abyssal mask if AP enemy. Then I let the tear keep charging and finish Seraph staff after that.

I'm new to the champion though so I have no idea if that's the most efficient build. Been working so far though. Building him glass cannon I feel is too risky with how short his E range is.

If the meta ever goes for longer game times I could see Ryze being really strong again.

hmmm, i would say his early game is actually not too shabby tbh. I don't think he has very many bad matchups (top at least) and i feel like a lane bully most games (Mundo and Mordekaiser are the only times i feel like meh)

i think really it's about going and looking for aggressive poke early and playing around the W CD to setup easy EQ

Most matchups tbh, i think he wins unless they have a massive amount of sustain. There are some matchups that i feel like are maybe a lil tough but possible to win.

like early game i think i just poke as much as i can but i get farm while doing and then as soon as they are in range wit my W i will hit them with that then EQ or Q W EQ

the thing that i have become really aware of top is how ppl play tho, cause ryze can push so hard so easily at lv 3 and ppl try and like match him early and then they will just back off randomly and its like uhh wut? oh they called their jg buddy lol

i would say i prolly play him pretty aggro tbh, i try and get 500 asap back tp and then just start pushing and harassing and trying to build a lead.

That's cool. I'm going to test out your build and try being more aggro and see how it goes.

Quick question. Do you use the empowered W or do you just slam the regular W for the slow?

So after this I ran into a couple bad matchups like Darius/Garen/Mundo/Morde, basically any juggernaut and anyone with a lot of healing and Phase Rush just doesn't cut it and Comet doesn't either imo

I been running Conq with that rune that does more DMG based on how much more max hp they have then you and the matchups actually feel winnable now if you play it well.

Also rushing Morellos but only after getting a Tear, that imo really does help Ryze win

I will say i was surprised that Camille seems so hard, its like if she plays well she just makes me feel stupid whereas the other tough matchups it was just about a rune or a item or just staying far from them, Camille is like THE fighter that seems like she can just really destroy ryze if they don't miss that hook stun.

Luckily nobody plays her though lol

Also I been using a new duelist build too, where I rush Spellbinder 2nd since I take Conq and use the Active on it and I gotta say it feels GOOD!
