Your solution to bring more players to the Support role is to make the Support role a zero CS, Carry role. You want to introduce gold generating items that deactivate with taking CS to prevent other lanes from abusing these items while removing team based items that are primarily grabbed for their active/passives. Your proposition is good for the Brands and Annies out there. It doesn't do much for the Sorakas or Leonas unless you plan on changing their AP Scalings.
I don't know what is more selfish. Supports wanting to keep supports the way they are (stubborn, resisting change). Or other players wanting to make supports into carries (lacking any respect or value for current Support playstyle). If you want to redefine Supports so badly, why not remove them from the game entirely? Your queue times will go down when teams are not waiting on a Support to queue up.
I'll just say it right now. Queue times are not an issue for a Support main. It's not our problem. Why should we change to fix this problem? Your looking at this from the wrong perspective if you think the Support role needs to change to solve an issue for every other role in the game.
People want to make the argument that something must be wrong with the Support role because there are less people playing it. That's simple. It's called communication. The tools to communicate effectively on the spot with random teammates does not exist within the game. Pings are only so effective. The role of Support is exponentially a better experience with a Teamspeak/Curse premade. Without communication, the impact of the Support role is reduced to gambling on competent teammates. That's why people stray from the role. But Riot can't provide a voice chat system because there's no way they could monitor the garbage people might say to each other. I honestly think that's why Duo queue has always been available so a Support could queue up with an ADC and work together on a 3rd party chat system.
