You're Grounded

I wrote this as a response to another thread but I thought I'd write my own post about it here.

My idea on a new form of status effect/cc to counter mobility:

Status Effect: Grounded - While grounded you can only move on land at normal movement speed. Your grounded movement speed cannot be enchanced by abilities or summoner spells, rather only by equipped boots or items that give passive movement speed. Effect lasts X seconds.

This can either be added to a new item or can be added to existing champions that already have some sort of cc. It only hurts mobility; it does not hurt immobile champs: You aren't slowed, stunned, rooted, or knocked-up...you're moving at normal speed. Thoughts?

Yes I would imagine between 1 and 2 seconds max.

or if a new champ would have like a quick sand ability that would also be fun to have a grounded effect

How would Kassadin do anything?

Malicious Fury1 votes

It would have a cooldown, so you couldn't just spam it on a mobile champion. That would be broken.

disregardable1 votes

You'd really only need to use it once to break Kassadin. He just wouldn't ever be able to engage unless you made a pretty big fuck up.

If I can ground you for 2 seconds, how is that different from stunning you for 2 seconds (in terms of breaking Kass)? I don't see how this makes things broken: you'd be able to cast spells still and move at normal speed. If you're stunned you can't do either. Plenty of champs with stuns.

Stuns travel. Kassadin would be able to blink away before the stun would take effect. How is it worse than roots? It isn't. However, there aren't stuns/roots available in any items.

doesnt kass's blink even have a 2 second cd? plus anyone with any ranged hard cc would also make kass blink useless. what difference would a 2 second grounded effect make

disregardable1 votes

The difference is everything lol.

When someone is hitting Kass (you) with hard CC, it is because either they're engaging on you or you have already engaged on them. If you plugged this into an item (which was the post's unedited intention) it creates a new space: Refusing to allow you to engage without taking the risk of engaging on you. Besides taking away any control Kassadin could have in the lane, it's just really passive and boring.

It works when it's attached to a diving kit like poppy's kit, but if you gave it to Ziggs it'd just be stupid.

oh you guys are talking about items, i thought you were talking about abilities

Go to the corner and think of what you have done! LOL

Immobile champs will benefits way too much from it as it puts them on the same ground (pun intended). Creative idea but is basically a soft silence since you still will be able to cast some of your spells.

Malicious Fury2 votes

It's supposed to help immobile champions. That is the point.

RogueWill2 votes

The point of immobile champions is that they have raw damage to compensate they lack of mobility, most of the time they have some form of cc. If you "ground" them you let them be catch and be blown. Basically is like giving the immobile champions a free kill every time the item is up. That's the reason why items only can give slows, can you mention any item that give any form of CC besides a soft slow?

It could be a nice idea to introduce on a champion but then again, it is just better to give him/her a normal silence instead of a movement silence

Malicious Fury1 votes

Items can only give slows, yes. But Grounded is new and would essentially be doing the same thing as a slow, except it's preventing increased mobility, not slowing.

RogueWill1 votes

As I am telling you, is doing a silence. If you ground someone like Yasuo he wouldn't be able to use 2 out of his 4 abilities. (since his ult is a blink) how is that comparable to a slow?

Malicious Fury3 votes

It's a new form of cc. It's not supposed to do the same thing as a slow and it's not supposed to do the same thing as a stun (which is worse). If Yasuo was stunned, he wouldn't be able to use all 4 abilities.

Well, yall can keep dreaming c:

Malicious Fury1 votes

The dream came true. Grounded is in the game. muahahaha

I think Riot needs to just reduce mobility.

Think about it, remember when champions started getting %health damages on them? item 3083 became almost useless.

I don't think we should introduce new things so easily JUST because there's an influx of a particular stat.

Grounded Confirmed in Cass update:

W - "Cassiopeia releases several clouds of poison, lightly damaging and slowing any enemy that happens to pass through them. Enemies affected by this poison are Grounded, losing the ability to use Movement abilities."
